Wearing/Buying
It’s cold!!! I need to remind myself that when it’s cold, all I care about is being warm, so now is not the time for dresses & skirts, no matter how tempted I am. And I AM TEMPTED.
You may have noticed my hair. It is hard to get a good picture of the real color, but it is definitely silvery/grey and not blonde. In fact, it leans towards lavender right now because of the toner she put in it, which will fade over time. And then, I have no idea what color it will be. Anyway, I LOVE it. Love love love it. It’s not for everyone (Leo…ahem…), but I think it’s pretty, and I love the way it brightens my face up.
It does make wearing lighter colors interesting though; I look a little washed out in this turtleneck I think. And wearing light grey makes my hair look even more purple, which I’m not a huge fan of. No matter though, I’m just going to have fun with it 🙂 Maybe I’ll play around more with my makeup/eyes also, I’ve been itching to do that actually…
Reading/Watching
I heard about ThredUp’s “remade” line and then read Leah’s excellent post about it. It is truly the most egregious example of greenwashing I’ve seen in a while. At least since the bamboo everything craze of 2008.
I caught up on Man in the High Castle and am watching season 3 right now. I really enjoy it.
I’m still working my way through some horror books; right now I’m reading The Girl With All The Gifts, and I love it. It’s an easy, quick, entertaining read. And heartbreaking. Next on deck is The Outsider by Stephen King.
Doing
Working A LOT trying to get up nearly 100 new consignment items for slowre I’ve gotten in recently. I could not be more grateful for the trust you all put in me to sell your pre-loved clothing, and for those of you who buy it! I love doing this 🙂
Happy weekend!!!
Yes! I’m so cold. I have to go to a conference in DC this weekend/next week and I keep thinking about taking a dress and then reminding myself no! I’ll be too cold.
Ugg.. ThredUp. And I just mentioned them in my comment on your last post.
Love love love your hair!
Love the new hair color!!
It was -3F at my house when I got up this morning!!! Layering was my friend for work today. Pants were my black canvas Andy trousers.
I just finished listening to Stephen King’s (and Owen King) Sleeping Beauty…very good listen and LONG.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!! Cheryl
I love the hair and the clyde jacket!
Regarding Leah’s article, I also read the Fashionista article. It seems the idea is about reselling, not the sustainability of the initial manufacturing so yes, Remade seems inaccurate. Another name that reflected the sellback option would seem more appropriate. When I hear Remade, I think an item is remade from fabric that has already been used in some way or recycled. I immediately thought of Levi’s ReDone vintage denim line. Leah is right to point out the requirements for buyback as the Fashionista article did not do. The buyback says “like new” which also seems contrary to a more sustainable wardrobe (I personally am trying to get to a place where I am using and loving the pieces I buy instead of selling many like new items as I do now). The idea sounds like a good idea with a bad name until you hear about the buyback terms. Not sustainable made while also encouraging the consume/sell cycle (don’t worry, you can sell it back if you don’t use it). While I’m grateful for options to sell my little used items and buy others little used items, I try not to be in that mindset when I decide to purchase something. I try to make that decision based on what I think I will get a lot of use out of. When you are successfully selling many items, I have found it is easy to get into that mindset. I try now to have more of a commitment mindset when deciding on a purchase.
Thank you very much for sharing that, it was great food for thought! I also now know not to bother with trying to sell any of my items to ThredUp.
It’s like they want to replicate Rent the Runway for their own products but that seems a different business model…
Love your hair – and does not make you look washed out IMHO.
I made the mistake of trying to sell some things to ThredUp and was completely appalled. I could have made more taking that stuff to Buffalo exchange or someplace like that. They literally took three items and gave me like $6 total. So honestly, not surprised to see this.
I absolutely love this outfit.
I love your hair, the color is so soft and flattering! The lavender cast is only slightly visible but I think that makes me like it even more.
I think it looks great with the light colored sweater, you don’t look at all washed out.
