I got a silk Equipment top recently (remember that Refinery29 Reserve deal from Otte NY? I still had one left for $200, so I was able to get the top for just $10) and now I’m obsessed with silk tops (in spite of their relatively high-maintenance). My friend Sydney is perpetually obsessed with silk, but I’m just becoming a convert. I’m not entirely convinced that the Equipment shirts are worth their hefty price tag though, especially since J Crew has a comparable version for $98.
Since I haven’t tried the J Crew blouse yet, I can’t really compare the two accurately but besides the price, I like that it’s a bit longer so it stays tucked in better. I haven’t really had a big problem with my Equipment top staying tucked in, but I like the idea. But Equipment definitely has J Crew beat in terms of colors; I LOVE the Peacoat & Wine colors available at Shopbop.
Equipment DOES go on sale (there are some good colors on sale at Shopbop), but not normally for below $150 or so. And I’ve never seen the more “classic” colors on sale, so the J Crew Blythe is very appealing, especially since I want a silk top in EVERY color imaginable now…
Have you tried both Equipment & J Crew’s versions of the silk blouse? What did you think?
The silk on Equipment is thicker and feels more substantial (ie won’t wrinkle) like the Blythe. However the Blythe is cut well through the bottom so it’s easy to fit over your hips when you’re wearing jeans versus Equipment’s more slim fit cut. The Blythe in green is on its way to me!

that green is pretty…but so bright 🙂
thanks for your input.
I had my equipment shirt in white on sale, was 100 GBP and I absolutely love it, this said I wouldn’t pay the full price which about double here in Europe. For the moment one silk shirt is enough…please share your opinion if you buy the Blythe.

I just bought an Equipment top from Dealuxe and it is my new fave item!! What is the best way to clean it?
Certainly great with your coloring, Sharon!
Didn’t get either of them, although I was sorely tempted, but I did get a similar one by Madewell (J.Crew’s little sister) and I LOVE it. No wrinkles on this hot (as in sweaty) Mama!
i threw mine in the dryer with dryell – it worked fine, but i did notice afterwards some staining on the color, so i’m going to take it to a “real” dry cleaner to get that out. otherwise, for just quick cleaning/freshening up, i think at-home dry cleaning will be what i do…
