As I was going through my wardrobe (again), trying on what I have left and just making sure I didn’t have a few more things I could get rid of (I did), I realized that my Everlane Swing Trench is much too big for me. When Everlane sent it to me to preview, I did think it was a little large, but not so much I wouldn’t wear it, or that it swallowed me. But when I tried it on just a week ago, I seemed to get lost in it. Sadly. Because I love it.
But that just means one of you guys has the opportunity to win this trench. Yay! And I know you’ll love it. My trench is a size medium, and it is the sage color available from Everlane. Here is my original review and pictures of the Everlane swing trench on me from earlier this year. For reference, I’m about 5’3″ and 150 pounds. I think I have broader shoulders, a small waist, and wider hips/butt, and in this case, I think the small would fit me better.
This giveaway is not sponsored by Everlane, nor are they involved with it at all, I just decided that since they gave me the trench and it doesn’t work for me, I’d like to pass it on to one of you. I have never worn it, other than to try it on and take pictures.
To be eligible to win the trench (US readers only please, and sorry!) leave a comment on this post. Say something nice, why you want to win the trench, tell us your favorite Everlane piece, share a story…anything (positive) really. DO not leave your email address in the body of the comment, I will be able to see it as long as you use a valid one to comment. I will run it through the weekend and choose a winner on Monday, September 29th.
And now that that’s out of the way, can we talk about the new stuff? The pocket silk blouse just launched today and even though I banned silk from my wardrobe, I’m tempted. Why? It looks slightly more casual to me – because of the pockets – and like it would fit better into my wardrobe.* I just wish they’d styled it differently to show how it hangs when it’s not tucked in…it’s difficult to see how it will fit. But generally, I like the look/fit of the blouse and could see it being a versatile layering piece under a cashmere sweater this fall.
[show_shopthepost_widget id=”283500″]
I also like the new lightweight wool sweaters; the “t-shirt” looks interesting, and the shell would be nice under a cardigan. I’m waiting to see what the chunky wool looks like, and if they bring back another cashmere tunic this year…and the loafers. Of course, I’m waiting for the loafers…
Have you bought anything from Everlane recently?
*I’m not buying it…don’t worry…I am tempted though, I can’t lie!
**if you leave a comment and you’re NOT interested in winning the trench, please note that in your comment! Thank you!!
Yes, please! I was just wishing this morning for a neutral, lightweight, comfy jacket to throw on… This would get so much wear…
Hi,
Wow. Thanks for the giveaway. That’s pretty generous of you. Thank you! Would love to win the trench.
My favorite Everlane piece has actually been the v neck t-shirt. It’s become my staple. Thank you!
I’ve been considering this piece since it came out. I’m still trying to clear out my closet before actually buying anything else, so I don’t exactly have the budget for it at the moment. I’ve yet to try Everlane, because I usually get my basic undershirts from American Apparel. I think this would be the perfect fall jacket, especially for the undecided Texas weather.
I love Everlane. I recently minimized my closet resulting in a need for both a jacket and winter coat. The Everlane trench would be a perfect match for the missing jacket!
I’ve heard raves about Everlane, this is one great chance getting to know them more.
That trench is adorable and just what I’m looking for. When I moved to Los Angeles, I got rid of most of my coats and jackets, thinking I wouldn’t need anything. It’s pretty chilly here at night and this piece would be a perfect addition to my wardrobe.
Yes yes yes! This is the exact size and color that’s on my wish list! So far I only own a couple of u-neck tees from Everlane, but as soon as I’ve recovered somewhat from this whole pesky pregnancy weight thing, I’ll definitely be expanding my collection! ๐

I have a few Everlane pieces…a silk round collar shirt, the silk tank, and a boat neck sweatshirt. I love them all. I really want the new luxe merino sleeveless but I was hoping you would order one so I could see how it looks on a more normal sized person ????.
A new trench coat is on my fall list so I have my fingers crossed!
P.s. The new Everlane fall pieces all look like must haves…particularly the loafers.
What a nice way to spread the wealth! I wore Everlane’s short-sleeved sweatshirt yesterday. The quality is inpeccable! I cannot wait for the loafers on October 1!!
I have three Everlane v-neck t-shirts and I love them. I’m expecting the u-neck seed stitch sweater (in gray) and the Petra market tote to arrive today. I really hope I love the tote. I’m interested in the silk shirts but haven’t bought one yet.
(No need to enter me in the contest. Thanks!)
I would love this!
I’m really interested in the trench, but not because it would fit me, but because one of my three daughters would LOVE it! ( Which would mean that they’d all be arguing about who’s Mom’s favorite…except that I’d have them draw straws!)
I still don’t feel “safe” ordering from Evetlane women until they have my legit size. They keep saying soon…we’ll see.
Love, love, love Everlane’s mission statement. Super nicely styled classic pieces with proven manufacturing sources. Trench would look amazing on my trip to Italy in October.
Hi Grechen, I’ve been reading your site for a while but haven’t commented before. I love your style development into more simple, easy, monochromatic looks.
I’ve definitely fallen in love with Everlane. It started with their basic white tees, then their silk blouses and leather sandals, and the last purchase I made was for their v neck cashmere sweater. It is SOOOO soft! I saw that you had one of their cardigans, and am thinking about getting one of those as well. Anyway, I’d love to try their swing trench. It looks really cute and practical.
Hi Grechen,
I have been a long time reader and love following your style evolution, you have really helped me make mature, long lasting wardrobe choices. But now I am pregnant and my wardrobe choices are rapidly disappearing by the day! I am determined to get through this pregnancy with very little “maternity” purchases (help!) and try to stick to the simple style that you teach so well. I think the Everlane trench would be the perfect style for before, during and after pregnancy.
My personal favorite Everlane piece has to be The Drape Tank.
Thanks Grechen.
You are the one that got me loving Everlane. I have ordered many of their T-shirts. I had never heard of them before reading your blog. Yes, Yes, I would love the trench. Thanks.
I would probably have to sneak it out of my daughter’s closet to wear it, so we’re throwing our name in the hat. I do love the style and color.
I have exactly zero clothing pieces from Everlane, I keep meaning to take the plunge but other things seem to always take priority. I would love to win this trench coat (thank you so much by the way!) first because it’s my very favorite color, and second because I don’t have a trench coat in my wardrobe yet!!
I just bought my first Everlane item – a v-neck tee-shirt – about a month ago and loved it so much the I’ve bought another two and convinced my husband to try out their tee-shirts as well! I’d love to branch out and try their swing coat, which looks very stylish!
You are looking so fab in your photos…and especially the series comparing the past few years!!
I have not tried Everlane products yet…but this trench would be a great way to start a new collection, and the color would be perfect !!
I’ve been a silent reader for awhile and really enjoy your blog – I find you honest, refreshing, charming. Would love to participate in the trench giveaway. Thanks for all the insights on style and life!
I love everlane! My currently living in the Ryan tee, at 6 months postpartum it’s the perfect loose and drapey fit. I’ve been eyeing the trench, but can’t currently justify the expense. I’ve also been lusting after the cashmere cardi, but I certainly can’t justify that one!
How weird is this? I said Market tote in this comment but I really ordered the Magazine tote. When I opened the box this evening they’d sent the Market. It’s way too big for me! But I love the sweater, FWIW!
My daughter has been pining for this beautiful coat. So generous of you!
I think this swing trench is adorable! I would love to win it, as it is perfect for my daily wardrobe. I love Everlane’s concept, I have bought their tees, but am afraid of their silk shirts due to fit around the chest. Thank you for this chance to win the trench!!! Love your reviews. ๐
Ooh, I’ve been reading all your Everlane posts but have never actually tried anything on. I would love for a chance to win this one. Thanks for the giveaway!

this is such a lovely, classic piece! thank you for your generosity in offering it up to your readers!
I am on the road and as usual have a everlane t-shirt in V Neck to sleep and two silk shirt for business wear. I have not bought anything else that I kept but I am waiting for the loafers too. I am curious about the silk tank. I got one in the white in small I think and it fit oddly. I still like the idea of a silk simple shell.
I live in TX too, so it will be the perfect coat! I love Everlane’s sil tank top. The silk is gorgeous and it flows beautifully.
Hi Grechen,
How generous of you, and how fitting – if I recall correctly, I found your blog when I was searching for reviews on this very jacket! I never did purchase it, as it sold out pretty quickly after its debut. But I’ve kept following your blog ever since!
My favourite Everlane pieces are the French Terry (it is super soft and surprisingly cozy for something so thin) and the Seed Stitch sweaters (raglan and box cut). I just purchased the Merino wool version for Fall, and I’m really pleased with it. I think it will stretch a lot less than the original.
I’m also eagerly anticipating the loafers. I’ve been crossing my fingers that they would be offered in black, and yesterday I saw a picture on their facebook page of – a pair in black! Yahoo!
Always been tempted to try Everlane, I just haven’t quite yet. I’d love to try out their trench!
I would love this jacket because it reminds me of Stella McCartney’s swing trench from a few years ago. I have been wanting to try Everlane for a while! Thank you for sharing and your series on minimal closet.
You are pretty wonderful! I’ve never been able to try an Everlane product before (prices) but am interested.
Thank you for the positivity!

I’d love to win! It would be a perfect postpartum jacket!
couple thoughts:
I love the “idea” of Everlane and I love how all their clothes look on their beautiful and thin models. What I am starting to realize is that maybe this style of dressing might not be for the everywoman. Sometimes when I put on an outfit that looks just like theirs I honestly think I look frumpy instead of the understated and minimal chic look of the models. I still love my Everlane clothes but I tweak them to have a bit more pizazz. I usually accessorize them with either a scarf or interesting shoes/boots. If I won your trench I would definitely wear scarves with it I think.
A weird thing-beware of Everlane black dyed garments. I have had my black boyfriend sweatshirt and long sleeve tee turn red around the stomach. Took forever to figure out why but then I realized its my Lysol cleaner with bleach! I think I might lean against the counter when I clean and this does it. This does not happen with any other tee that I own-only the Everlane.
Lastly- I think that you should look into being a personal shopper and a wardrobe/closet consultant. If I lived close to you I would definitely hire you to do this for me. You have great taste and also seem like a super nice person to be around.
This jacket looks adorable and useful. I would make a happy home for it. I have looked at the Everlane website many times without buying anything, despite the great reviews on your blog. I finally emailed them today for size advice and to ask if they would please please include some pictures of models wearing the clothes who are not flat chested and 5 feet 11 inches wearing extra small because it makes it impossible for the rest of us to predict how the clothes will look on us! As long as they intend to be a socially responsible company they may as well promote more realistic images of women who accept their bodies. (I got a very nice answer in reply)
Hi Gretchen – I’m not interested in winning the trench (but thanks for your generosity), but I did want to say that I have recently bought and enjoyed the u-neck/scoop neck tshirts and the drape tanks. If you don’t mind me asking, do you iron your tshirts? With these new high efficiency washers, tshirts can get wrinkled even if I take them out immediately.
Side notes:
– I love that James Pearse hooded sweater in your sidebar, but can’t quite pull the trigger to buy it at that price (yet).
– I was reading the local paper this weekend and they were highlighting local shops in San Francisco. I didn’t realize that Everlane and Cuyana have shops here!
Thanks for the giveaway! I have seen you and others talk about Everlane but have never taken the plunge… And this looks like it would be a great step into the world! I am still getting used to the East Coast (mid-Atlantic or not, it’s COLD out here. A lot.), and this would be a great fall jacket ๐
(Out of context comment, sorry Grechen.) Val, I’m still smiling over your secret sleuthing abilities. I’ll bet you wanted to be Nancy Drew when you were little. I hadn’t read the rumor that I might be Emily Weiss, and would love to know where you saw it. Your surprise in discovering my real identity made me literally, laugh out loud!
You made my DAY!!! I made up that rumor, basically because I started thinking about it, and it made sense…Clever, cheeky, funny…I had no idea who it was. So when it was YOU!…you could’ve knocked me over with a feather. I LOVE those comments and look for them everyday!!! You’ve got a real “thing” going there.
***(In fact, Grechen should delete both of our comments. You’ve got to keep this under wraps!!!)
i’m so confused….
you have to fill me in if you ask me to delete your comments ๐
I
L email you!
Val, I think that I’m ready to be “outed.” I never really planned on keeping my identity a secret anyway, it just turned out that way:).
Well, that’s certainly up to you, dear RJS! But I’d personally wait until you’ve got a HUGE following and get a book deal or end up on Oprah…oh dang, no more Oprah.
I just e-mailed you, Grechen. Val, I love the idea of a book, and I’ve thought of doing one. I also appreciate your compliment on my comments, and think that the whole rumor idea was hilarious. I just couldn’t let someone else take credit for my writing, not even Emily Weiss. (She has enough kudos to keep her company.) Someday, over that beach bonfire, we’ll laugh about it in person:). Oprah, are you listening?
I sure hope so, RJS. I have a feeling we’d be instant friends!
hi sandy!
i don’t even OWN an iron. i’d love a steamer though, I’d use that…
honestly, i tend to layer my ryan tanks or wear them to pure barre, so i don’t mind if they’re a little wrinkly (I don’t have an everlane u-neck tee yet) – and they do get wrinkly… for my JP tees, they really don’t get very wrinkled, or i haven’t noticed anyway ๐ some of my very thin cotton pieces like the JP collage boxy top are horribly wrinkled all the time, which sadly means that i don’t wear them very often…
the JP hooded jacket is really great – i got it, but haven’t been able to wear it yet. outside of my house anyway. i put it on all the time ๐ it will go on sale!
you should visit them both! i’d love to have a chance to see all the everlane stuff in a shop, that would be cool. and i do like cuyana as well.
Amen! (And we both love linen.)
Ha Ha – if you aren’t using an iron, then you are hiding that well! I see some wrinkles in the neck/border piece that joins to the tshirt, but like you, I layer so it isn’t that noticeable.
I’m thinking that you might tell us when JP is having a sale)? : )
Oh my, Everlane has bi-monthly studio events. Unfortunately it isn’t that easy for me to get there as I’m in San Francisco only during the work week, Maybe that is good so I won’t buy too many things if I aim for a minimal closet?

Hi there Gretchen – I’ve never commented before, but you are my go-to person for Everlane fit pictures!! Here I was just searching your site for more Everlane pictures when I see this post about the trench. I would love to win it, it looks like such a great neutral piece. Based on you sizing down, I would probably have to as well, so a M would be perfect ๐
I personally think Everlane should be giving you all of their stuff to try. For me, it’s so nice to see how their clothes look on other body types! Their models are gorgeous, but the clothing doesn’t sit the same way on my body. Normally, if I’m on the fence about something I check out your site, haha.
I hope you’ll be doing fit pictures for the new cashmere? I’m on the market for 2 sweaters this year: one v-neck or scoop neck and one cardigan. I’ll probably buy them either way, but I like to see how you wear them too!
P.S. I’m dying waiting for the loafers!!!!!
