Yesterday I went to get my hair cut & colored (which is why I’m not wearing my glasses…). It’s short, but for some reason, I convinced myself to go super-short this time and try to make it all summer without getting cut or color done. I need to save a bit of money on that, honestly, and I MIGHT try and grow it out a little for fall/winter. We’ll see how far I can go before I have to get it cut again. I like it this length, but my hair grows so fast.
I took my laptop and various other things with me to work a bit while I was there, and go to a cafe afterwards and work a bit more. And since Jessica has been thinking about a work tote (she posted about it on her blog), but was concerned about the Everlane one being too slouchy, I wanted to show it full, and then what’s inside. It holds EVERYTHING, and I love that it’s structured without being too structured. It’s honestly so perfect for hauling around a laptop, etc. while still looking somewhat professional, and creative at the same time.

It was heavy, I’m not going to lie, but it holds up nicely and the bottom stays put; I HATE when bag bottoms don’t stay flat. I have the straps adjusted as long as they can be, and it fits well over my shoulder, which is how I carry it most of the time. And, so far, the bag has stayed relatively clean, except when I wore it with my black fleece James Perse bomber jacket – the black rubbed off a bit on one side. I haven’t tried to clean it yet, but I’m not overly concerned about it.
I will confess I already want a black version of the Everlane market tote for fall/winter because I love it so much. I certainly don’t need it, but I can already tell that this is a workhorse bag, and I’d love to have one around for many years to come. We’ll see…Of course, I’m trying to get away from buying multiples and stockpiling things. But I’ve also said that it’s justified sometimes, especially if the item has a proven track record.
Who else has an Everlane Petra Market tote? What are your thoughts on it? How has it held up for you?
Your hair looks great! This is the perfect length for you, imo 🙂
thank you so much. i LOVE it this length, but it doesn’t stay this way for long!! my hair grows so fast, and my cuts are expensive 🙁 worth it though!
Thank you for this! I’m saving up my pennies at the moment, but I think you’ve convinced me to go with the Petra. I already have a Tory Burch bag that’s similar to the one I was looking at, so I think it’s time to give slouchy(er) a try 🙂 Now to decide on a color…
Your hair looks great, by the way! I haven’t gotten mine colored in ages, but I’m finally biting the bullet next month. I need a refresh badly.

I agree .. for a tote to be useful – it must have a flat bottom. The Everlane tote looks like it’s quite a perfect bag 🙂

You look great!
I’ve decided that I don’t “need” a leather tote right now, and will live with the bag I am currently using–a Cheap Monday bag I got from Need Supply for $25–which has actually held up really well and I can dump everything into, and don’t worry about getting scuffed up or dirty.
(BTW, could you give me a hint on the JP sale timing?)
I’m drooling over the Petra in bright navy, but the open top really puts me off. I live in Raincouver, after all.
While I agree with your feelings on not having multiples, and it is something I am working towards myself, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to have a spring/summer and fall/winter version of an item that is a total workhorse within your wardrobe. I have the same pair of pants in black and in navy, in both summer weight and winter weight (4 pairs total).
I have a Cuyana brown leather tote that is my go-to when traveling as it folds down flat, but a structured bag would be handy as well. The Bright Navy Petra bag is to die for.
yes, i can see how that would be an issue…it’s not for me, really, i actually prefer it to stay open. and yes, that bright navy is beautiful.
Exactly what I came to say as well! Love the ombre color!
I love your hair!!! The length is SO completely good on you….chic, fashion-forward, stylish, and it looks relatively easy to care for and style. This makes me yearn for my previous stylist! She knew how to take out the weight and give my hair movement.
Sorry for veering off-course. The bag is great. The buttery soft leather looks to be of better quality than the J Crew Downing Tote I purchased. I do love mine, but if I had been thinking “future,” I would’ve gone with Cuyana.
I’ve been wanting a huge, oversized tote (especially for traveling) and I keep coming back to this one. I guess at this point, I’m just waiting for the perfect color to come out? I’d love a beautiful cognac/whiskey color….

it’s soo good for traveling. the only issue is that it doesn’t have a top closure. although that doesn’t bother me at all…
maybe fall they’ll introduce some new colors? i do love that olive color they have already. and the brown. and the black. all of them, really. the navy is pretty too 😉
I really love this color! So I’ve owned the Petra in black for a little over a year and wow, I’m impressed. Yes it’s heavy when full–totally agree on that. I carry EVERYTHING in it as well: laptop, chargers, a scarf, a Uniqlo puffer in a bag, a touch up makeup kit, file folders, water bottle. It’s kind of ridiculous the amount of crap I put into it but I’m the kind of girl who takes any kind of bag and fills it to capacity. I’ve taken this on weekend trips, week trips–on a plane, in a car, everywhere. And yes, the shape holds up and does blouse out a little depending on the contents but it’s still sturdy looking and un-floppy. I love that there are 4 feet on the bottom because I work in cafes that have really sketchy floors. I’m an event planner and so I needed a bag that could hold all my work essentials and still look professional, and this fits the bill. I almost should have gotten the next size (the one that Angelina Jolie has) but it’s almost TOO big! Hope that helps you out. Best investment for the price and the Everlane customer service is fantastic.
