Everlane launches their pants collection today (or yesterday if you had early access), and they’re pretty good, but I didn’t order a pair.
I was going to use some of my credits I’ve earned to order a pair and try out for you guys, but I REALLY don’t need a pair of wool trousers right now, AND I was very impressed with how thorough they were showcasing the pants on different body types & sizes – I wasn’t sure I could add anything else valuable right now.
If I did get a pair, I’d order the slim trouser, black, size 10, because I still think my Hope news trouser is the best black slouchy pant out there (and it’s cotton/machine-washable), and I certainly don’t already own a “nice” pair of slim black pants. They look like a great pair of pants, they just don’t fit my lifestyle right now.
What do you think? Did you order a pair of Everlane pants? Which ones? Will you try a pair?

The fact that they couldn’t narrow down the sizes of their models probably explains why I won’t order them – I wouldn’t know what size to order, and I’m not going to try an unknown garment in multiple sizes when I’ve already found well-fitting trousers elsewhere.
Do they offer free return shipping? If they don’t, they should consider it, so that people who need to try multiple sizes will be somewhat less deterred!
Good Morning
I was going to order, but I think they look unflattering in all those photos. Shlumpy with the pockets sticking out? Disappointed yet relieved, I keep my funds.
Have a great week everyone.
I was really hoping for something different in their pants offering–like a slim straight style with a longer leg (and maybe that’s just because I’ve been trying to find some, and they’re difficult to find!). The market is glutted with cropped pants, skinny and slouchy. While I like the idea that they put them on real people, they aren’t the most flattering the way that they’ve styled them.
i agree – mostly – they could have done a better job styling them perhaps, and i don’t think the pants are “perfect” – but i do applaud them for at least trying to show them on different sizes/body types. that’s a huge complaint that a lot of people have about everlane.
and yes, i’m pleased to have kept my funds too…i’m waiting for the cashmere 🙂
yes, janice, they have a GREAT return policy and excellent customer service. i’ve always been very pleased anytime i have to return something.
their new model shots did help me a bit because one of them mentioned that she sized up to fit her calves, and that was/is my biggest issue with pants lately, especially slim, cropped pants – they hardly EVER fit my calves. so if i was going to order, i would have sized up to a 10. but none of the models look like me, so it was a big tough to narrow down sizing, i agree.
well, i like the cropped pants, obviously, because i have such a short inseam, but i hear you – if i didn’t, i wouldn’t like ALL the cropped options out there right now. a full-length pant would be nice. of course, these would be full-length on me…but…
agree that they’re not the most flattering images. but again, i do think they’re trying at least! who else does that??
I know, I know I totally appreciate that they have some real people wearing their clothes, and I wish more companies would do it. And it’s great to see what they look like off the rack.
I guess it’s also a sign as to how pervasive fashion images are in perpetuating the skinny as ideal, that even I, who consider myself a life-long feminist and an advocate for the beauty of different body types looked at their clothes on real people and was a little underwhelmed. And a little depressed, because OMG what would I as a size 12 look like in the pants. And then I threw up in my mouth a little that I said that to myself. Ugh, this whole body image thing is such a minefield emotionally.
SO glad you said this. i sort of felt it too, to be honest, because NONE of those women look like me, i don’t think. none of them have thick legs and are short. to be fair, i think that is a rather unusual body type – i don’t see many women around me who have the same body type as me; “most” women tend to have thinner legs/ankles if they’re curvy at the hips/butt. And that is still though of as more traditionally beautiful than my apple/pear shape – even hourglass shapes have thinner legs than i do…
my sister said something very similar to me a long time ago when we were having a discussion about why magazines don’t feature more sizes and body types – that she didn’t WANT to see size 10 or 12 women in magazines because she’d have to be more realistic then about how SHE looks as a size 10 or 12. that made me SO depressed, because i think we all feel it…no matter how hard we try to be accepting and loving of our bodies, the “skinny” ideal is soooo pervasive it’s nearly impossible to overcome.
I’m sorry, but the more I see of Everlane the less interested I am. Nothing I have ordered from them fit me very well or looked high quality. The styling in those photos is HORRIBLE. The photos are helpful in that it lets you know their pants are apparently sized quite large (since I am a size 6-8 and I am much smaller than the women pictured), but I am so tired of cropped pants (unless they fit me as full-length, that is!). 😉 The slouchy ones pictured above just look like highwaters. Blargh. Sorry for the negativity, I love you and your blog, Grechen, but I just really have not been impressed by any Everlane.
haha! don’t apologize!!
i agree with you on the sizing – but i’ve ALWAYS said that i think everlane runs a size large.
i’ll be interested to see what bloggers/others say about the pants and the quality. i’m almost tempted to order them just to see, but that would be wasteful.
I’m dying to try the skinny pants (they’re perfect for my work wardrobe), but just can’t swing the funds right now. Plus, buying wool pants heading into spring/summer makes it even harder to justify. I could order them just to try on, but I don’t know that I’ll have the willpower to send back if I love them. Sigh…

Or maybe we should accept that both styles of pants don’t have a particularly flattering cut. There’s no reason a size 12 woman can’t look good in a well cut pair of pants.
yeah, i think their timing on this was a little strange. although i guess the northern part of the country will still be cool enough to wear wool pants for a while…here, i could wear them for a couple weeks and that’s it.
i was sort of surprised by the pricing too – i thought they’d be cheaper. but then again, i didn’t really think they’d be wool either.
Well, hopefully they’ll come out with a more summery style that’s less expensive due to fabric choice.

Actually, their return policy is OK. Returns aren’t free unless you want an exchange, otherwise it’s 5 bucks. If you order 1 item and then return it, you are out of 10 dollars just to try an item on.
@luh, I do agree with you that we probably should just accept that they aren’t particularly well-cut pants for anyone, really. I think Clint and Stacy on What Not to Wear would agree with that. 😉
Interesting! I might have to check these out. I love that they showcased women who have bodies similar to mine.

I ordered a pair of the navy slims! I also used up credits, so I can’t complain. I have been in need of navy slim trousers so I hope these are perfect. While I did love that they showed the pants on all sizes, my size girl who is usually a 2-4 went for a 0!! What!! I would have never thought to order that…I went with my standard 4, almost everywhere I am a 4 so I am hoping for a perfect fit so I don’t have to deal with returns and backorders. I think this was a great attempt to show the sizes better…I recently got a *free* drop shoulder tee, I ordered a M because it has the same description as the box tee, which for me runs small, and I am swimming in it. (Again I can’t complain because it didn’t cost me anything and it is SO SOFT). I even tried shrinking it, so hopefully this same methodology is applied more streamlined to the shirting collection. I will definitely report back on fit, feel, thoughts once I receive them! (PS. I live in Miami and I wear wool pants all year round, A/C is chilly down here). Cheers!
oh yay! i hope they work for you – i can’t wait to hear back.
if i went to an office everyday, i could definitely see wearing these all year. but i don’t…and i spend a great deal of time outside or at least going to and from, so i don’t think i’d want wool !!
I think Renza and I are twins separated at birth. We agree so often!
We’re the same size 6 or 8 (more often a 6 these days and not because I’ve lost weight) and I also think these pants look not so great on the majority of the women, with styling that just makes me say “Um, no thanks, I’ll pass.” The jutting-out pockets and lack of belt loops are deal breakers for me. The waist looks too high for me as well (short torso). I do I like a pant that skims the ankle (not cropped, really), and the inseam length quoted for the slim style seems like it could be right for me. Not nearly enough of a reason to buy, though.
So I’m disappointed. Still hunting for my Holy Grail skinny black ankle pant, and this is also the year I may break down and get something slouchy if I can find a good fit (something that doesn’t make me look like I’m wearing a loaded diaper. Sorry to be graphic.) I just won’t be buying from Everlane.
I really want a pair but they both have wool in them so I can’t get them. Bummer.

Love love love that they showcased them on different sized models! I can’t for the life of me figure out where you pulled those images from though. I looked on their social media and their website but couldn’t find it.
Personally, I love Everlane. I’m glad they’re adding more items but as someone on the heavy side with a big butt, pleats and slant pockets are a huge no-no. Can’t wait until they add even more styles!

angela, the images are on each individual pants page towards the middle – there is a showcase that you scroll through to see the models of different sizes.
I’m a 14 right now (I sometimes vary up or down, but I guess this is where my body likes to be. ) and I agree with everything you said, Jen. I’m a feminist, I try to accept my body, and not send negative messages to my youngest daughter (The 2 oldest are gone, so I’ve already screwed them up! 😉 ) But the fact that Everlane doesn’t come in a 14 puzzles me. They have mentioned several times, in response to inquiries about sizing, that they are a small company and hope to “get there someday.” And yet they continue to add new styles…doesn’t creating a prototype for something new cost more than adding another size to their classics? I feel a bit excluded.
They really should send you a pair, considering that you champion their goods quite often! 🙂
Me, too. I don’t get the wool for a Spring launch. By the time I got done wearing them, they’d be boiled wool!!!
I was set on getting a pair buuut when I saw the pants on the models around my height (5’1″), they looked so long and baggy. I love the slits at the bottom and would hate to compromise them if I were to take them to a tailor. Plus the cost of the pants + tailor isn’t that worth it to mat this time of year. They are super cute on the tall models though.
i was excited when i saw everlane was making pants, but i was pretty disappointed when i saw the end result. the cut is really unflattering! i thought the cropped length made everyone’s legs look shorter, even on the model, who is supposed to make the item look its best. also, hearing that someone size 2 or 4 sized down to a 0 makes me think these pants are out of the question for petite folks like myself who typically wear 00 or 0.
Wow I can’t believe I am so behind on a response but they did go back! The wool texture was fine but really light….worried about lines absolutely. In my opinion the skinny was not skinny enough for me they looked pretty straight. In addition the long zipper on these pants left quite the bunch up when you sit down. For $98 they just were not perfect enough. I am hoping for some cotton pants like the men’s in coming months!!
