Ever since I found an awesome long wallet by Neet at Anthropologie several years ago, I’ve been addicted to big/long wallets. Not only because I carry a big bag, but I also like it to zip all the way open, so I can stuff EVERYTHING into it, including my phone and keys; that way, I can use my wallet as a clutch if I need to. Anyway, after carrying my Neet wallet for 3 years, it started to look a little dingy and it was always in the back of my head that I should find a new one. And for the last year, I knew that my new one would be Comme Des Garcons.
Comme Des Garcons is much easier to find online now than it was only six months ago, but the best place to browse the entire collection is Dover Street Market. Unfortunately, they’re based in the UK, which makes shipping costs prohibitive. I was very tempted to call the Comme des Garcons store in NYC and order what I wanted, but waited it out, and luckily now have more online options to choose from…some with discount codes and free shipping.
Before the new year, I ordered this LARGE Comme Des Garcons wallet in blue from Tobi
It’s the perfect size for me, the color is amazing, and I know it will last FOREVER. The design and craftsmanship is of the highest quality, and it has enough card slots and pockets to hold all of my receipts, notes, money, change, and even my phone and keys. It was tough to pull the trigger as it is very expensive, but shipping was free, and I saved 25% when they were offering their Holiday coupon code (you can save 10% now with code GRECHEN10). I have never looked back since I got it and absolutely do no regret spending the $$ on this wallet. I will not buy another one for many years, and considering I use my wallet every day, it passes my Cost-per-Wear/use rule with flying colors….BUT…if you’re not convinced it’s worth it, or do not have the money right now, Look What I Found: an almost identical wallet by Marc by Marc Jacobs at Shopbop
It is less than half the price of the Comme des Garcons wallet, and almost exactly the same size. The colors are very similar, as is the embossing. (I’m not saying anything about Marc STEALING the design/idea for this one…but…). Anyway, it’s absolutely a great alternative, I’m not sure about the quality of Marc by MJ’s accessory line (I found his clothing quality to be sometimes lacking), but it looks like it’s well-made.
Just FYI, this is a smaller wallet than mine, but the same color/embossing:
