I don’t really believe that comfort is a function of how much shoes cost; I have “cheap” shoes that are comfortable and expensive shoes that are NOT. BUT, I do still shy away from certain inexpensive brands because they’ve hurt my feet in the past (Steve Madden & Aldo specifically) in favor of brands I know work for me (like Repetto and No6). And I hesitate longer to purchase shoes from brands I haven’t tried before if I can’t try them on first.
That said, I do not own any “classic” pumps or pointy-toe shoes and sometimes I wish I did have a pair – you know, for emergencies. But since I won’t wear them frequently, I won’t spend a lot on them, so I’m looking for less expensive options. And as much as I have tried to shy away from SoleSociety so far (honestly, a lot of the shoes are awful), some of the shoes are pretty compelling. And their Refinery29 Shops deal (spend $25 get $50 or spend $40 and get $85) makes them even more appealing. All the shoes I’ve shown above are under $69, and I REALLY love those wedge booties…the cap-toe flats and the red suede block heel pumps…
Have you tried SoleSociety? What did you think? do you notice a correlation between how much your shoes cost and how much pain you’re in by the end of the day?
I haven’t tried anything from sole society yet either. I’m curious about their shoes as well, and love those grey wedge booties. Do you happen to know the story behind them? Is sole society the actual brand name? Who does the designs? Just curious, as I haven’t heard much at all.
on the bottom of the site it “credits” vince camuto and nordstrom – maybe vince camuto is the designer? and nordtsrom powers the ecommerce? if this is the case, i feel better about trying them out…
You are sooooo right about Steve Madden and Aldo. I have bought many cute shoes from them in the past, but rarely wear them more than 3-4 times before they go in the back of the closet (or the trunk of my car). I haven’t tried Sole Society, but I do like their selection. I’m pretty partial to Tory Burch for my go-to comfy flats. I am dying to try Repetto, but I always get to the sale just a little too late. Someday though…..
I find that it’s pretty tough for me to find shoes at a size 11 that are comfortable without spending a lot of money (What seems like a lot of money to me, anyway!).Nordstrom is a godsend for good size 11’s and so is Barefoot Tess. I can only do a Steve Madden in an 11, which is pretty much saying, “I don’t do Steve Madden.” So I tend to go with French Sole,Tory Burch, sometimes I’ve done GAP and they were OK, but never last…Wait! I actually DO have a pair of Steve Madden booties that are Isabel Marant knock-offs and they are comfy. In fact I wore them most of last winter and chose them over my ballet flats, which is a first! (or “your baby-doll shoes” as my Mom calls them…tee hee π
you MUST have a pair of repettos – i will make that my life’s mission π
i have those same booties – and they are comfortable. i was pretty surprised, actually. And my DV Dolce vita jamison booties are also very comfortable…. i think you just never know. i don’t expect “cheap” shoes to last forever though, so i’ll spend more money on shoes i love and want to wear for many years.
I’ve never really spent a LOT of money on shoes. Boots, yes. So, I am finally starting to treat my feet a little better. Oh, and I really like your choices from Sole Society. I checked it out. Not bad for the real leather ones. I hate vinyl.
