Every fall, camo rears it’s ugly head (or not so ugly, depending on your preference). I mean, what goes better than camo with thermals?? I’ll admit, I’ve never really thought much about wearing camo, but lately, as you know, I’ve been trying new things. And mamavalveeta’s mention of her skinny camo cargo pants got me thinking that I might like to have something similar. After all, I like the traditional “camo” colors, and the print is somewhat tame, as prints go. So why couldn’t I wear camo?
If I was going to “do” camo, I would probably do a skinny jean or pant – maybe a shoe – something you wouldn’t find for sale at Bass Pro Shops. I don’t think I would wear an oversized jacket or sweatshirt; that’s way too literal, and likely to look more like you’re on the way hunting rather than to the mall. Here are some camo pieces I found and love :
3.1 Phillip Lim dolman button up in light-camo | $250 at Forward by Elyse Walker (love the shape)
TEXTILE Elizabeth & James camo jeans | $228 at Shopbop
Zara camo print dress | $79 at Zara
Splendid racerback top | $78 at Shopbop
What do you think? would you? or wouldn’t you? Do you prefer traditional camo colors? or do you like the lighter, darker or more colorful interpretations?
more camo…(check out the Valentino sneakers!!)

I have been seriously tempted by camo this fall…tried on both Gap skinny camo pants and trouser-style camo pants from Joe’s Jeans. I had to admit that the Joe’s Jeans ones really did me no favors, but alas, when I decided to go back and buy the Gap pants, they were sold out. In the end, I decided against the camo pants. I think it’s definitely a trend that is worth a smaller investment.
HOWEVER, I’m still thinking about this camo jacket by Sanctuary–I like the smaller camo print, and it had a flattering fit. I think pairing camo with more polished accessories and pieces–like pointy loafers, silk blouse, structured purse, pencil skirt–is a great look.

love that jacket, the style is VERY flattering. definitely think the jacket is a better investment than the pants overall; seems more wearable. and versatile.
I definitely prefer traditional camo colors.
I spent whole summer in my Current Elliott camo tee paired with a pair of white jeans or slouchy shorts. I have tried on the GAP camo jeans but even though the fit was great they were to light for my liking.
hi bea! i love camo with white jeans – so chic!!
you’re right, the gap camo jeans do seem a bit light, for my taste also. the ones i REALLY REALLY love are the r13 x over camo pants, but they’re CRAZY expensive…loved them on jennine at eat, sleep, denim: http://eatsleepdenim.com/blog/denim-review/denim-review-r13-x-over-camo-jeans/
My only regret is that I didn’t buy the jacket the other week at Bloomingdale’s–it was marked down and qualified for the Loyallist 25% off and would have been $66!
I like touches of traditional camo, and I confess to a liking for the recolored Zara dress, but it’s pretty low on my want list. A small camo crossbody would be fun, but I haven’t seen any! I also like the Valentino sneaker but no way would I pay that much for something that seems like it will be knocked off instantly.
omg, the price of those sneakers!!! love them, but wow. now that i think of it nike did a camo pair of air max shoes i think…will have to find them.
i kind of like that 3.1 phillip lim small crossbody π and i do like the zara dress.
but like you, camo is not on my fall wish list right now!
I like the Equipment blouse and the Textile pants even though I think the exposed zipper is a little aggressive for lack of a better word.
So much of this is very cool, but if I’m going off my pilgrimage to try and get a burgundy turtleneck and black heels, it’ll be for a fuzzy sweater and/or stuff from Isabel Marant for H&M (<– this is a fantasy; I'm in NYC and not only will the line be long, the level of competitive aggressiveness will be mind-blowing and everything will sell out within 5-10 minutes.)
yeah, the zipper on those pants is a little off-putting. but if I had those pants, you’d never see the zipper; i could never tuck with such skinny pants…
some of the IM/H&M collection will be online though, no? we have a store here, but i’m not sure the line will launch here – i am pretty much in love with everything, but am resigned to the fact that i won’t GET anything. i wish they wouldn’t breed so much exclusivity with these collabs. i know that’s the point, but i’d venture to guess that most of the people standing in line first thing and who will get most of the stuff are going to put it immediately on ebay to sell for INSANE $$ – like what happened with the phillip lim/target stuff…leaving nothing for those of us who just want a few pieces and to shop at our leisure π
Those Valentino sneakers came in a darker navy and black camo for men. They were awesome and I almost got them so this post is def tempting me. Other than that a camo sweatshirt is as far as I would go. I think I’m more into subtle touches even tho I like the trend and I like it on others.
i saw those! they’re so cool…wish i wore sneakers enough to justify such a price point…
You are SO right about the ebayers getting ahold of the best stuff and then selling it for a mint! Not fair, but I’m not sure what the retailer can do to make it right. Online is good. Maybe keep some in reserve for those of us that aren’t first out of the gate. ha ha!
I think my pants (Macy’s, btw) are more like the Textile by Eliz & James, but with a concealed zipper. There’s a lot of stretch and I’m so comfy in them. I wore mine with a white tank, my Splendid grey light grey long sleeved tee and suede booties in taupe. Pretty simple, uniform look for me. And no big investment, so no big deal if they’re not in next year (which I assume they will NOT be!). And I’ve received several compliments on them….but not from my husband!
H&M says the stuff will be sold online too but I really doubt that the grey jacket and ruched printed dress will be available – I don’t get it but I feel like people do strange, complex things to get access online, to somehow boost their internet speed. Because it just doesn’t feel like someone who hasn’t goosed things gets a fair shot, right?
Maybe I need to just not even bother and get the stuff on my list! The prices for the collaboration aren’t yet translated into dollars but they are pretty darned high.
For some reason I just can’t get into camo. It’s not that I don’t like it (at least from a fashion standpoint) but it’s just not a print I gravitate towards. I thought I wanted those Gap camouflage pants but when I tried them on in the store I didn’t think they were anything to write home about so I went for a pair of olive green skinny khakis instead and know I will get much more wear out of those.
i agree – i definitely prefer olive over camo print…
I think camouflage can look okay sometimes–if I had to pick, I sort of like the very understated camouflage pattern of the Nixon watch and the Equipment blouse–but I just won’t wear it. It’s one of my very few fashion rules–the other is that I won’t wear animal prints (as in leopard print–I love clothes with actual animals printed on them, haha). I don’t see the appeal of camouflage. It seems like a very odd appropriation for fashion.
