See, I know how to dress myself 🙂 – this is my new favorite outfit. For me, I think, the key to dressing in the MOST flattering way is to wear heels, and tuck in my top. Period. Or wear a dress with a defined waist. No matter what, I will always look thinner, taller, etc., etc., if I tuck my top in to slouchy trousers or a skirt, and wear shoes with a heel, not platforms. Am I ALWAYS going to dress this way? no. I enjoy playing with my clothes and experimenting with shapes and styles. I’ll keep doing that, and probably wearing things that don’t look THE BEST on me, but I just wanted to remind you that yes, I do know how to bring it when I want to….
This really does look great on you! I am totally with you- not every outfit needs to be the MOST flattering- but there are days when you definitely want that.

And I envy you those trousers like whoa.
I really like this outfit, and you look great, but I love the outfits where you play with shape, too – I liked the one earlier in the week where you wore the oversized white tee, pencil skirt and Clergerie sandals, too, and to me you look equally great in both styles.
Unfortunately and unlike you, I don’t have a small waist, but when I wear stuff that goes in at the waist or a figure-hugging dress, and heels, I know for sure I get more compliments from women and men than when I’m in slouchy jeans and oxfords and big turtlenecks/sweaters, which is what I prefer. BTW I ordered the Vince turtleneck! (And went off-list by buying grey MiH jeans but they were marked down to $6 – I’m only human.)
lisa, the pants are so good. kind of flannel-y so a bit warm for right now here, but they’re so comfortable and such an interesting shape. i love the shape/style especially; so unexpected!

i was going to say that i wish we could automatically look our best in the things we love to wear the most, but as i was writing that, i thought “we do!” – confidence and feeling comfortable in our own skin DOES make us look our best…
Greetings! I just discovered your site today, and spent time perusing the Perse posts. I also love his comfy clothes, particularly, the tees. JP is almost an addiction, and one that I don’t want therapy for! I still own my first JP piece: a soft, long sleeved top. Although I bought it a few years ago, and washed it many times, it looks great. BTW: I scored today at our local Maine Marshalls. I found four pieces for half price! I look forward, to exploring your site soon. I’ve enjoyed it, so far.

Mamavelveeta, it was at Century 21 – not sure if the chain is only in NY/NJ. Not sure why they were marked so low -they were brand-new. It’s a high-rise skinny style called ‘Boston.’

JP is definitely an addiction for me; i can’t get enough! and so far, i see no reason to!! i wish i could find them more often at a discount though, our nordstrom rack used to have a great selection but haven’t in a while. and our marshalls/tj maxx stores are not very good. mostly i find the best luck at last call, but the prices are higher there…

black crane is one of those brands that sells out quickly and sometimes the style is sold out forever – i’ve learned the hard way, which is why i got these the second they showed up on totokaelo! i would put yourself on a waiting list at totokaelo so they’ll notify you as soon as they get new ones in. Several other sites sell black crane, but not these pants right now: mohawk general store, steven alan, kickpleat, need supply…so i’d check those to see if they ever get them in.
of course if i ever see them show up anywhere, i’ll let you guys know 🙂
