There’s an SA at our local Madewell who is always dressed beautifully and inspires me to try things on that she’s wearing. She is shorter than me and very small, but she wears maxi-dresses & skirts like nobody’s business. A few days ago when I was there, she was wearing this skirt
with a silk blouse tucked-in and a simple belt. I WANTED that skirt. And at first, I searched through Madewell to see if it was theirs, but I had a feeling it wasn’t. So I headed over to Anthropologie and there it was. It’s such a beautiful skirt and perfect for dressing up (I really prefer it with a top tucked in vs. the way they have it worn on Anthropologie), BUT it’s a heavier polyester material and would be WAY to hot to wear now, which is good, because I can’t buy it now anyway 🙂 You better believe I’ll be stalking it until it goes on sale though…
Believe it or not, I do NOT yet have a pleated skirt! Have you tried this on? Seen it at Anthropologie? What did you think?
First time commenter but I’m kind of your 6 foot tall Bay Area style twin 😉
I have that skirt and it’s fab. But the material is a little heavy/warm even in the mild climate here. I usually take a 12 at Anthro and found the large fit pretty TTS, though the waist is a little tight. It has great flow and pairs with a lot of different shirts and cardigans.
Now here’s where I could use your advice; want to pull the trigger on the Madewell skirt but I wonder about the waistband. I’ve had issues with wider elastic bands folding and twisting. Did that happen with yours?
The waistband on the madewell skirt is definitely an issue – although it doesn’t stop me from wearing it! Perhaps if I’d dry cleaned it, it wouldn’t be such a mess but I don’t know… It’s really a disaster but I don’t think anyone notices but me – especially if I wear a belt. It does stop me from getting another one in grey, but not from wearing the one I have – it’s a unique skirt…
Hope that helps you a little!!
And thanks for your input on the anthro skirt, I’m definitely going to give it a try once it gets marked down.
You have got me lovin’ long skirts. I now have a GAP navy racerback maxi that I wear all the time (it came in TALL–yippee!!), a black maxi flowy chiffon GAP skirt, a James Perse straight maxi black french terry skirt and I want MORE!!! I am tall, so I get lots of compliments, and I’m finding that people think I’ve lost weight (ha ha ha!).
That’s really pretty and we all know you love your maxis, so definitely get something different with pleats.
Did you see the pleated maxi skirt I tried on at Madewell? I reviewed a few items.

Yes I did see your madewell reviews – you made me want to go and try that skirt on! I can’t quite get used to the colors though – I’ve looked at it in the store a few times…
Yes!! Long skirts and dresses can definitely be slimming – as long as you wear them the right way …which I’m sure you do…I just see so many women wearing maxi dresses too small or without spanx 😉
I’m glad you’re on board!!
