I mentioned yesterday that I still have my 15% off card for my birthday to use at Anthropologie and am in search of a printed dress & a cropped jacket. Today I tried on these two dresses at Anthropologie and I need your help…NOW, please 🙂
Dress 2, by Tracy Reese:
Here’s what I think:
I love both dresses, with the first, I’m wearing my own belt instead of the self-belt that comes with it and I think they both fit me beautifully, but the second dress is more versatile. The style and color/pattern lends itself to more layering opportunities with different colors, where the first dress I would really only be comfortable wearing a black or cream-colored jacket on top. The second dress looks great belted, and with my Madewell army jacket over it….And I’m thinking that the first dress will go on sale sooner rather than later, and I can get it for 50% off….
What do you think? I want to buy tonight….
**edited…okay, all you smarties on twitter & here who are choosing the first dress, what do I wear OVER it??
I like the first one. The color is GREAT!
alyson´s last blog post ..Remember that time
The first dress fits you very well. What to wear on top? May I suggest a feminine cropped jacket/cardigan/wrap…It will contast the sharp lines of the dress and the belt.
However, you do not need a jacket unless the weather gets colder.
By your comments, it looks like your mind is made up for the second dress. I think all of your points are valid, but I have to tell you that the first dress is more flattering. Maybe it would be different once they are fully accessorized, but as they are in the pics, I vote for the first dress.
get both
I love both!! You always find great things at Anthroplogie, I wish I had that luck! Well, I think the first one because the color is beautiful and either one would look amazing with a drapy leather jacket. You could also wear a white blouse over the green dress and tied with a knot at the waist!
Tracy Reese Dress! The second one. I like the color and pattern on you. I hope its not too late. Second pattern will go well with solid cropped jacket
thanks tina!! you’re not too late…i didn’t buy anything yesterday, i decided to give it a few days to think about. i’m still leaning towards the tracy reese though…and then i’ll stalk the first one until it goes on sale. maybe 😉
ha! not an option right now. i can get one now and wait till the other one goes on sale…
thank you!
the second dress totally has my vote – it’s a great color/pattern, and can be styled so many ways! 🙂
miss sophie´s last blog post ..Steven Alan sample sale!
They both look fantastic on you, Grechen. You know me–I’d buy both. But Anthro is starting some big sales now so maybe the first one will go on sale. I’ve never seen you in something as structured as the first dress and it looks terrific on you. But I also love the second one and agree with you that it might be more versatile in terms of layering on a jacket or sweater in a variety of colors. I also like the draping of the skirt. So buy the second–but keep your eye open for a sale on the first!
If voting is still open, I LOVE the print on the first one (and I think it’s very flattering)! I think it would be cute layered under a structured brown faux-leather jacket, something with some hardware to offset the flowered print? It’s hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like anything in shades of brown would look great.
yes! voting is still open…
i do agree that brown would be nice, but i’m trying to work with what i already have in my wardrobe, and there’s not much brown LOL – well, i do have some longer brown cardigans, but for this dress, i need cropped. i have a cream-colored leather jacket (which is still too HOT TO WEAR HERE IN ATX!!!!!!) that might work…
and the picture is kind of deceiving – the colors are more green/olive-y than brown. but i think i can still work with that!!
thanks carla 🙂 i WANT to buy both. believe me. but there’s no way right now.
and i can probably have both eventually, i just am stuck on trying to decide which one i NEED NOW. which of course, is neither, really.
i think i may just flip a coin.
i have a lot of love for the first dress! it’s perfectly structured and really flattering. the length is perfect on you. i also like that you tried it on with somethings you already own–the belt and the No 6 clogs. call me crazy, but i think you could put on a navy cardigan with dress #1 or a leather jacket in brown, blue, black, or cream. or EVEN green! pops of color never hurt!
yes!! navy would be nice actually, and i have one from H&M that might work.
you know what else scares me about that first dress? it’s not jersey. i’m used to layering with jersey – i get nervous when i have to think about other material…
I have to say I LOVE the first dress on you. It is VERY VERY flattering in both color and style. I’d wear a leather jacket over it, a black drapey cardi over it…pair it with tights and boots….or CLOGS!!!! (wink wink)
My 12-yr. old daughter just weighed in and she likes the second one because she doesn’t care for the print on the first one. What does she know, anyway!!??
LOL – i like the print on the 1st one, but i like the print on the 2nd one BETTER. it’s more “me”. she’s smart!
