Wearing/Buying
It’s the last days for the James Perse sale & free shipping on any order with code JPWINTER19. They added some new sale styles since I first posted about the sale, but nothing very compelling IMO. I’m very very happy with my purchases from the sale (satin binding dress – on me – and high gauge tee) this time. I’m just not-so-patiently waiting for warmer weather to be able to wear them more often.
Ace & Jig has a preview of all their SS19 styles online (under the “stockists” section) and swatches available for purchase. I am pretty tempted by a few things and textiles (Leelee and Faye dresses) but probably won’t buy anything at launch since I’ll be even more pregnant. Does anyone have their eye on anything?
I’m also interested to see what Elizabeth Suzann will be coming out with next. I was very tempted to get the Mara jumpsuit on sale, but decided to wait and see what they’re going to replace it with instead. And again…I’m not overly anxious to buy things I can’t wear now and don’t know when I’ll be able to wear again.
Reading/Watching
I’m watching Grace & Frankie, but honestly I’m sort of over it by now. I’m just watching for the mindless entertainment value. My husband and I are watching You, which is good? It’s enjoyable to watch I guess, but sort of over the top at times.
I started reading “Expecting Better” after it was recommended a couple times on Instagram and think it’s a very good, non-judgemental, thorough, realistic book on pregnancy. The author is an economist and approaches everything by examining the data, and also by judging the validity of the studies so-called “evidence” is based on. It was fascinating.
Doing
Oh yeah, you’re probably waiting on news…LOL. We’re having a boy! I was a little shocked, but that’s only because in my head I was having a girl, for no other reason than I didn’t want to think about circumcision (which I may or may not talk about some other time). And I had an EXCELLENT girl name picked out haha.
I love boys, I have four nephews and a step-son, so I’m excited to be having a boy.
We did have early genetic testing done as well, and when I talked to the nurse on the phone she said that everything is “normal” – no chromosomal defects – but I’m not sure exactly what that means right now, so I’m going to discuss it more with the doctor at my appointment on Monday. So far I feel like this is very good news, but you know me…I’m also hesitant to jump to too many conclusions.
We’re rounding out the first part of this journey, heading in to the second trimester and I feel much better than I did a month ago. Still very tired, but not so food averse anymore. I’d like to be able to stomach coffee again, but shockingly, I’ve done just fine without it.
In other news…
I made these flourless chocolate brownies, which are basically a chocolate version of the chickpea blondies I make and they are INSANE. I did not make the sweet potato frosting, as I thought that would be overkill, but might do so for super bowl Sunday, or if I’m going to be sharing with other people. They are so good. Again, as with the chickpea blondies I make, they do taste somewhat “healthy” and not as sweet as you’d expect, but that’s exactly what I like about them.
What are your plans for the weekend?
I’ve got to say I still love the Mara jumpsuit in linen! I’ve been layering a long sleeved t under it and wearing it with my Frye lace-up boots. I’ve gotten more compliments from that then anything thing else! I took a leap of faith and ordered the Maxine crop top in silk crepe. I really wanted it in raw silk but never got up the nerve to buy it. If I don’t like it in the silk I might exchange it for linen when it come out.
Everyone assume I was going to have a girl when I was pregnant. my mother and grandmother each had one child (girls, obviously). On my husband’s side out of ten kids born in his generation he is the only boy. I was the only one not surprised to find out I was having a boy! (Happy to discuss circumcision. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong decision – like so many things.)
Watching the first season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisle. I love it!
Going to make brownies this weekend!
Watching The Kominsky Method on Netflix and like it. Spending my weekend in an extend state of panic, marathon packing as we found out we are being transferred and have to be there by March 1st. Florida to Colorado is going to be a BIG change. And good heavens, rentals are double what we pay here. I’m watching the clock and waiting until it’s a suitable hour to pour myself a glass of wine!
Yea for a boy! Yea for your—the two of you—good health!
Oh we loved the kominsky method!! Alan Arkin is so funny.
Good luck packing. That is a big move!!
I do that too. With wine – although I can’t stomach it now, I would wait until at least 5 to pour myself a glass. I can’t day drink at all. I get tooo tired!!
Oh Grechen, the genetic testing came back clear? I am guessing I know which test it was, but lips are zipped and I won’t cheer until you have a chance to talk about it with your doctor. I admit however, I’m cheered, if that makes sense:).
And boys are wonderful too <3.
Congratulations, Grechen! Little boys are so wonderful!
Hahaha, since you put it out there: Inquiring minds need to know the excellent girl name you had picked?
So excited for you! You’ll be “Grechen the Goddess” to your son. 😉 My daughter has a girl and 2 boys, and they pretty much ALL think she’s Queen of the World, but the boys see her as a goddess! Lol!
No plans, quiet weekend. Trying to get my energy up to tackle some jobs around the house.
I’m taking a month off the internet (exception for work), but I had to check in and see how you’re doing! I always wanted a girl and was horribly disappointed to find out I was having a boy, both times. You’re not supposed to say that tho 😉 I also have pretty strong feelings about circumcision (why would you voluntarily cut off a part of your body?) so interested to hear yours.
Hi Gretchen! Congrats on 12 weeks! We have 2 boys and decided not to snip even though my spouse is of Jewish heritage. My father-in-law was a bit upset but eventually respected our choice which, in the end, was to leave the choice to our sons. I hope you feel better in your second tri, a lot of women feel like they have more energy then.
Congratulations! I have two boys and they are so fun. And we didn’t have either circumcised and are so glad with our decision. I’m happy to hear that your test came back normal (I also had one of those) and that you’re feeling better. Pregnancy can be so debilitating!
We also have 2 boys and didn’t circumcise (even though my husband, brothers, etc. are all circumcized). It just didn’t seem right to me to cut off a body part from my newborn.
I thought my 2nd was going to be a girl for sure, so there was a period of…I’m going to call it adjustment…when I had to get used to the idea of 2 boys.
