Tomorrow is the last day to get up to 25% off at Shopbop with code BIGEVENT15. Every year I try (but mostly fail, until this year) to use these “big” coupon codes to stock up on spring and fall items. This year, I couldn’t wait any longer to buy what I wanted (with credits I earn each month from Shopbop, and saved up over several months), and ordered last week, but Shopbop is really good about adjusting orders if they’re placed within a certain time period, so even though I placed my order before the code started, they still gave me the discount. Great customer service, no? And then I placed another order this week with my remaining credits for the James Perse fleece cardigan + a pair of thongs (to get it up to $250 so I could get the discount), so I’m good on shopping/buying for quite some time.
Anyway, I’m way more excited about wearing what I already have in my closet as the weather warms up than I am about buying new things. BUT. There are always things I’m tempted by, and that I have on my radar to try, and this spring/summer I MIGHT finally try some white jeans. Maybe. And if I did, I think they might be the ones I posted by Genetic. I love that they’re high-rise AND cropped AND distressed, which is pretty much what I want in white denim. I definitely don’t want skinny or too pristine looking (do you watch Togetherness on HBO? Remember Amanda Peet’s all white outfit in the last episode? uh…no.).
And even though I did have a jumpsuit two summers ago and it’s long since gone, I still like the IDEA of one, especially if it’s black, slouchy, AND made in the US, like the Sundry one above. Practicality aside, I think they look cool, and chic, and I can imagine myself wearing one at home, and/or out, with a cardigan on top.
Since I’ve already got my long cardigan, I’m good on that front, but they’re ALL over the place for spring, and this one by Three Dots is really great, made in the US, and about $100 less than the James Perse version. Good, no?
And finally, remember the white draped James Perse top I tried and returned last year? I sort of wish I’d re-ordered it when it went on sale, but didn’t. Every once in a while I do wish I had a more “fancy” top, and I always loved the draped v-neck on that one. Well, this one by Lanston is nearly identical, and less than $100. Score. And I love Lanston, I have a couple of dresses and as long as you don’t dry them, they hold up wonderfully.
Here are lots more of my favorite made in the US items at Shopbop – including some great denim – for you to splurge on this weekend if you’re so inclined. Let me know if you’ve bought anything!!

I love the idea of a jumpsuit, but I have a feeling it would not be so great on me in reality–I’ve tried on some that have definitely not worked. This is another one that’s caught my eye that I’d like to try on if I can–despite my jumpsuit concerns:

Frame has a nice white version of Le Garcon out for spring that is distressed as well, but not as distressed as those.
I love your choices, Grechen! I could see the long cardis hanging in my closet (Oops! Bought one by Halogen at Nordstrom…haven’t worn it yet!). All of the cool “surfer moms” out here wear them. I’m not cool, or a surfer mom, but I still want to wear mine, over a tank, with my Gizeh sandals, or the Greek sandal criss-cross front that’s badically a Celine dupe.
I’m proud of myself for not buying, and for making a list of “Wants” that I’m going to work on. If it’s on the list and I can’t stop thinking about it, it’s probably a “Yes”! But if it sits there too long…cross it off. I’m learning. Be patient with me! 😉
Thanks so much for the Halogen suggestion for the long cardigan Mamvalvetta! I keep looking at the James Perse that Gretchen got but I think I like the idea of it more than how it will look on me. The Halogen one looks great, perfect price range and I can try it locally! If I do like it then maybe worth a splurge on the James Perse version.
You’re most welcome, Beth. I really like it, but just be aware that it’s pretty lightweight and not really meant for COLD weather.
ha! i’ve always loved the look, and i’m still not convinced i’ll be able to pull off the long cardigan, but i did try it on at nordstrom before buying it and i liked it on me. we’ll see what happens when i get it in my closet…
is this the one you got? http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/halogen-long-open-cardigan-regular-petite/3870446?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=2375500&fashionColor=Black&resultback=269 – i like it, looks very very thin though!!! should be good for summers up there 😉
that frame pair is also nice, but i like the higher rise/cropped length of the genetic pair. although i’ve not had the very best of luck with genetic.
that jumpsuit is crazy!! you should totally try it on if you can. on me, those cropped wide legs would be terrible, but the style is so prevalent this season maybe it’ll grow on me? i don’t know…the idea of a jumpsuit is great, they’re just so hard to deal with during bathroom breaks LOL
that’s a good idea beth! if i hadn’t tried on the JP one in person, i’m not sure i would have bought. even so, i’m not 100% sure it’ll work on me with my wardrobe, but i want to try. at first glance, i really liked it, and thought i could pull off the longer cardigan since it’s “slimmer” – which means it doesn’t completely overwhelm my short frame…
Love your picks as usual. I adore my genetic jeans and also love white jeans as well as distressed but these are a tad too distressed for my taste.
I have 2 eileen fisher long cardis that I’ve been living in…i will say i prefer how they look when i have on heels or wedges but looks frumpy in flats.
Anyone on your forum have the everlane turtleneck vest that didn’t work out? I’m missed out again.
Looking forward to your addition of white jeans to your wardrobe!
I have a long cardigan from a couple years ago (white & black stripe from Chicos) but it’s too big on me now – I adored it over slim black ankle pants and a black tank or shell for work, or a knee length black sheath dress). I might look for a replacement. At the same time I lost weight, I got a couple pairs of white jeans (thrifting one pr, bought another discounted online) and I’ve worn them once or twice but I am not a white denim person. I’m not much for jeans anyway, but white denim I have no time to wear – I won’t wear it in winter or fall, and it’s too hot in NC to wear in the summer time. I get a couple wearings in April and May, maybe….
that’s what i worry about – with white jeans – that the season is too short to wear them. i wouldn’t wear them when it’s over 90 degrees, but maybe all the holes/distressing will give them built in air-conditioning?? 😉
and anyway, i’m not sure i’m a white jeans type of person either. but then again, i haven’t tried.
I tried on the petite at Nordstrom yesterday and loved it! I never thought I could pull off a long cardigan like that but it really worked (I’m a little under 5’4”). Thank you both for the great comments and help.
Yes, that’s the one. I got it in Navy since it goes well with my summer palette. It is very lightweight, so it’ll suit me well!
