Tell me…what have you bought since the sales started? Anything? Are you finding the deals better or worse than last year? Are you buying now mostly for yourself or for others? Are you able to resist the sales? and things you don’t need??
Oh no, that Virginia Johnson sale is really making me want to break my “no more scarves” wardrobe rule I set for myself! Wah. Have you washed yours (or drycleaned) it much over the years? Since it says it is handpainted I wonder how it holds up, especially to cleaning.
And I don’t know how you (or others) feel about Bloomingdales brand cashmere, but they are on a really good sale right now with the extra 25% off almost everything on the site, it seems. I did a lot of damage because I had to order multiple styles to try, not having any idea how they will look in person. I hope they don’t ban me for online returns (not sure if Bloomingdales is known for that)?
I have ht a few sales. A skirt form James Perse (which I really hope fits), a Shopbop order – JP Henley’s sorel boots and a Jerome Dreyfuss Mini Twee Bag – I have been looking for a cute cross body bag and I’m hoping this is is – it looks adorable! I am probably going to pick up some Baggu’s and am thinking about the Virginia Johnson scarf – they look beautiful….but whould love to know why you love yours so much?

i have cleaned my VJ scarf with dryel in the dryer at home only a few times, and it’s held up nicely.
i’ve never tried bloomingdale’s cashmere, but i have nothing against private label cashmere in general – i’ve tried on some nice neiman marcus pieces at last call. they are having a pretty good sale now, but i’ve never ordered from them and we don’t have one nearby, so i’m a little leary i guess!!
oh! i had a jerome dreyfuss mini twee bag and LOVED it. just not the color 🙁 so i sold it. but i HIGHLY recommend it for a small crossbody bag. it’s pretty much perfect.
why do i love my virginia johnson scarf…hmmm…
mostly i love it because it’s HUGE, so it’s a nice scarf + blanket for traveling. i ALWAYS take it with me on the plane, even in summer, and sometimes will use it as a wrap or whatever when i get chilled from A/C. i’ve had mine for about 10 years, and it’s really one of the most important things in my wardrobe; i don’t think i could live without it…
so my first JP order was the black shirt dress and charcoal short sleeve cashmere sweater (both arrived today, and since i’d tried them both on, i love them!!)
and then i ordered some yosemite pieces because i’m desperate for some new things for pure barre and dog-walking, and with the sale, the prices were pretty good. i got the seamless yoga pant, the raglan hooded sweatshirt, and a tank top that doesn’t seem to be there anymore…

Is the VJ scarf a very delicate knit? I find that I rarely wear my “nice” scarves because I can’t just toss them in my purse because they snag immediately. I need to start carrying a little bag that I can shove my scarves into I think.
As for other things I bought this weekend–I definitely caved and bought too much for myself.

Campos Bags is 50% off everything, including custom orders! I have been wanting to try them out so I ordered a small clutch–one side charcoal, one side anthracite, and orange zipper. I hope I like it!
And then I already mentioned the Bloomingdales sweaters–their Aqua brand and C by Bloomingdales brand. I have been searching for long sweaters/cardigans that I can wear with leggings so I’m hoping one of those works out. I’m sick of these stupid sweaters that ALMOST cover my butt but not really–who wants tops in that stupid length anyway?
I also bought a lot of Christmas presents, so I’m almost done with shopping, yay! It’s way easier to avoid buying things for myself when I’m not looking for ideas (and deals) for gifts.
my VJ scarf is NOT very delicate. and i toss it in my bag all the time…i’m pretty rough with it honestly, and aside from maybe one or two teeny snags, it is still very nice. mine COULD be heavier though? i don’t know. i haven’t seen any of the new ones in person, so i can’t compare. but mine is 100% lightweight wool.
haha! i’m with you on sweater length. thankfully my everlane cashmere tunic does the trick, and for others that don’t quite cover, i wear my larger ryan tanks underneath 🙂 i hope yours work out!
I feel like I’ve been hovering online or in stores all weekend, which was NOT my minimalist plan. La Garconne has a pre-bf sale that I didn’t realize was “pre”, so I missed an extra sale code on a handbag I was pretty sure I needed. Then I was tempted by the Alexander Wang Darcy because it is on sale on the AW site…but I haven’t seen it in person and am in a bit of a knot in general. I won’t end up getting it. I stalled out on the James Perse military bomber as well because they recommended a size 3, and I’m really nervous about that given the final sale status. I did pick up a Vince sweater at a crazy discount, but I need another sweater like need a kick in the head. Why did I do that?
AND, as I was returning something to Neiman Marcus (hooray) I was trapped by the convincing makeup person at the Dior counter when I made the mistake of stopping nearby to price my favorite shampoo. It was horrible. I thought I had agreed to have her show me the new lip color, and she spent over an hour doing my entire face…heavy on the foundation. It was actually quite stressful. At the end of it she made me look like a cross between Joan Crawford and Martin Scorsese, and tried to ring me up for $400 worth of product. Everyone gasped at how wonderful it was…she even said “now I would take you seriously if I saw you and you looked like this.” I spent $100 and now I need therapy.

i had the darcy hobo when it first came out, now a friend has it actually, and i wonder if i’d carry it now if i had it, but it was pretty heavy, and didn’t have any outside pockets, which are must-haves for me. and i like the option of two ways to carry bags…but it is beautiful!
are you and i about the same size? sometimes i wish i’d gotten the size 3 in the fleece bomber, but then i know the arms would be too long. it’s shorter than i generally like i guess, but it’s a bomber, so it’s meant to be. the military jacket might be a little different though, i’m not sure how it fits exactly.

Glad you loved the Twee! The color is the big question for me – I got it in the Bordeaux – thinking it wouldbe great with my black/white/gray/denim wardrobe. I’ll have to see it in person and hope it doesn’t look purple….and if I don’t love itI have to actually make myself return it and not keep it “just in case I fall in love later….”

I cave in to boots from Racehl Comey which I have been waiting for and the deals were too goo to pass:
189 USD rachel comey mars boot in grey at Anthropologie: that was amazing. I also got a pair of penpal from Rachel Comey directly at 30% off.
I got a simple black cardigan from Muji in Cashmere 50% off which I needed since my last one was too small and 7+ year old.
Finally, I also got a sailor striped shirt made in France from Armor Lux from Madewell.
I resisted getting one for myself but I’m not sure how long I’ll stay strong if the sale prices remain in effect. (They’re still showing at 50% off – it’s early morning on Tuesday.) I haven’t taken advantage of any of the online sales to get anything for myself. I’ll be less immune when I start getting out into the stores and to the holiday markets filled with gorgeous handmade things. Poking around on Etsy gets me into trouble as well. I’ve been able to avoid that so far. I do generally treat myself to something while I’m shopping for others but I’ve accumulated a lot – like jewelry that I rarely, if ever, get around to wearing – so I will be trying to hold back this year.

I’ve always loved to go to renegade craft fair and last year went to feliz in austin, which i loved. those things are deadly for me though, i can go nuts if i don’t have a firm budget in place!

bordeaux is beautiful – my billy (also sold!) was bordeaux, and it was such a great color, not purple at all. it’s just what you’d expect from a color called bordeaux 🙂

There’s a friend of mine from church, uber-stylish, uber-beautiful and natural, a highly renown photographer, and she has this way of just throwing things on and making them look SO intentional. She had on a sleeveless turtle over a L/S cashmere tee on Sunday, and it made me think of you! 🙂
What DIDN’T I buy would be a better question!!! The GAP cozy crewneck sweater in gray for $21 with coupons and rewards, Eileen Fisher black coated denim leggings for $62, and some great makeup with cyber Monday codes: my fave ever Bobbi Brown EXTRA Tinted Mousturizing Balm SPF 25 for $10 off, and The Lipstck Queen “Liptropolis” lipcolor in “Soho.” I’ve been wearing a red lip quite often lately because my eyes have been watering and I can’t get makeup to stay on them (Even waterproof…it’s SO annoying!).

Holy Crap! You cracked me up (had a visual of the Crawford/Scorsese love child..,) I’m always sad when I hear women had such a negative experience at a makeup counter. Try Bobbi Brown next time. I know I’m like a freakin’ evangelist for her, but her makeup philosophy really did change my life and I know her people are trained WELL!
Mamavalveeta, ha, is that an excuse for me to buy a baby baggu? I used a giant ziploc once but I would feel very silly if anyone saw me pull my scarf out of that. 😉

i have to alternate sitting with the standing desk. i usually stand first thing in the morning for about 2.5 hours, then when i get back from pure barre i sit for about 2 hours. then i stand off and on the rest of the day, moving around more. if i sit in the afternoon, i won’t get up….
gah! i still want a pair of coated denim SOMETHING. goldsign has the virtual style that i now LOVE in coated denim….but i’m just not sure. seems too fancy for me! how will you wear them?
I thought the same thing at first, but then I realized that there are several bloggers (Andrea Linnet and Kim France) who are decidedly in the “non-fancy” camp that wear coated denim all the time, and I admire their style.
I picture them worn simply, with an oversized cashmere or cable sweater and booties or my Sam Edelman sneakers ( that are like your VINCE “Blairs.”) I think I’ll get a lot of wear out of them.
Oh, and add a pair of Splendid black thermal sweatpants to my purchases at 49% off! (Somebody stop me!!!)
