Happy Friday!! So weird, that even though I didn’t take the “day off” on Monday, it still felt like a short week; I was always trying to figure out what day it was. And I want to get back into a Friday Q&A session by talking about drinking the kool-aid. Here’s what I mean: I pretty much drank the birkenstock arizona kool-aid when James Perse started featuring them, and now am about to drink the nike air max 90 kool aid after the feature in Lucky this month:
I haven’t actually ordered either shoe yet, but I’m about to – I’m going to get the Birkenstock Arizona in “jasper” suede to get away from dark sandals, and I’d love to not wear my Mephistos out as fast as I usually do – so having an alternate supportive sandal will be good for me. Anyway, I want the jasper color to wear with my new Black Crane pants arriving tomorrow (excited!!).
I also have the Nike air max 90’s in my cart at Nordstrom – in PINK – and am just waiting to unload my Nike lunar flyknit shoes – also in hot pink – first (going to ebay them this weekend). I love my other nikes but I didn’t take size advice and go up a 1/2 size and when I wore them everyday for long walks over summer vacation with the family, they REALLY hurt my feet. So I need a new pair of “true” athletic shoes, so why not the air max??
So, I ask you, have you drunk the kool-aid lately? Have you purchased anything that’s a “trend” – something that you wouldn’t normally buy, but you keep seeing it and thinking about it? Do tell!!!
I haven’t bought anything super trendy recently, but I’ve been having a mental debate about wedge sneakers for about a year now. I can’t decide if I like them, or if I just want to like them because they look comfy. At this point, I feel like I might have missed my window. Sigh.
i’m with you on that one – i do like the look of them, and how comfortable they (probably) are – especially the isabel marant version – but on those, i know they’re not great on me, so i’ll pass and just enjoy them on others. but if they did look good on me, i’m sure i’d get a pair 🙂
I caved and bought pink birkenstocks 3 summers ago when I was in London.
Right now, I keep putting everything with leather trim in my online shopping baskets, and ended up purchasing this br t impulsively. But I love it and wore it 2 days in a row last week! http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?vid=1&pid=558997002
Now I’m contemplating this dress from Club Monaco:

Well……I am always behind in trends! (I actually wore Birkenstocks in the 70’s in Northern Cal when I went through a brief “hippie” stage in junior high! Don’t know if I can do b-stocks again:) Love my Nikes! I just got the higher topped/wedge/pretend Marant’s. That’s why I am so late to any trend:) I do like, though, the Nikes featured in Lucky, with pants. My son keeps bugging me to get the Nike Free’s….might do that:) Thanks always! (Love the colors of your outfit today!) xox Kim
i’ve been wearing mephistos/birkenstocks forever. but i gave up on the frumpy arizona style in college. so weird that it’s “in” and of course, i’ve always loved it!
i tried on the nike air max shoes and didn’t like them on me – but i love those wedge sneakers!! they were actually in my cart for a while, but they’re not good on my foot/legs.
NICE dress!!!! i love leather trimmed anything also…
I’m not a big “jump on the trend bandwagon” kind of girl. Probably because I’m afraid I’ll fall off. But I really did it up good this week and bought myself a pair of camo jeans. Why? I have no idea. I guess I thought they looked really cute on some model or something. I forgot, for a few minutes anyway, that I’m a 53-yr. old mother of 3, grandmother of 1, and a size 14. So, instead of looking trendy, I think I might just look a little scary in my camo jeans. Not Snooki-scary: http://www.cosmopolitan.com/celebrity/fashion-faux-pas/celebrity-fashion-disasters#slide-39. But more, “Hon, why are you trying to look like a Wisconsin deer hunter?” scary. My husband refuses to go out with me if I am wearing them. I might return them. Or I just might keep them to remind myself that some trends are better left unworn. And to bug the crap out of my husband. 😉
Omg I wish I could unsee that image of snooki…
I like some camo prints actually, but I don’t really have a desire to own any LOL
Sorry for “burning you eyes”! 😉
I don’t think I am very trendy, but I did buy a leather skirt at a secondhand shop, and the saleswoman told me that leather skirts, pants and tops were going to be hugely popular this fall. I get emails from Net-A-Porter and one, I think, said that, linking to three pages of expensive, pretty stuff to wear with leather. I think that’s Kool-Aid drinking, right?
I have one pair but I think I may be drinking additional Kool-Aid with the Marant Dicker bootie. I wear them constantly and would truly use another pair but the money….ugh.
it’s kind of drinking the kool-aid 🙂 i love leather skirts, but i personally find them hard to pull-off. i had one but i always thought it was too girly…strangely enough!
i totally believe in buying multiples of something you wear all the time. i have three of the same zara top because i always want to have one clean. i’d totally get another pair of dicker boots when you can afford them. they seem to be worth it!
I have a pair of Air Max 90’s kicking around in my wardrobe…just trying to figure out if I can get away with the whole trainer and dress/trainer and skirt look. I have always thought trainers make an outfit look super casual but the girl in the picture above seems to look very chic in hers! x
