I don’t post about celebrity fashion/trends here on Grechen’s Closet because honestly, I don’t care who’s wearing what. I’d much rather wear something no one else has than something EVERYONE else has (or will have once – insert celebrity here – is seen wearing it). That doesn’t mean I cannot draw inspiration from celebrity fashion, or that I don’t own anything that has been or may be seen on a celebrity, but that is not the main focus of my wardrobe, or of this site.
When I started to notice the distressed/boyfriend/tucked & folded denim trend on various celebrities, I could stay quiet no longer. I was in high school when the tuck/fold trend started and I am proud to say I DID NOT tuck & fold my jeans then, nor do I plan to do so now. This is even worse than skinny jeans in my opinion – and I really dislike the super-baggy boyfriend jean look. I just don’t think it’s flattering at all. Yes, it may be comfortable, and that’s okay, but it’s just not the best look. On anyone.
The jeans these celebrities have been wearing – at least Reese Witherspoon – are by new denim duo, Current/Elliot. (details on Katie’s here) Heralded by Vogue as the freshest look in denim this year, Current/Elliot specializes in getting that perfect distressed look. For a price, of course. (The distressed denim trend was another trend I did not participate in, and was happy to see go…or so I thought…I didn’t think it was time for it to come around again, but come around again it has.)
Current/Elliot’s jeans will set you back more than $200 and most styles have to be pre-ordered for September delivery from several online boutiques. Honestly, I don’t mind the way they look here:
because they actually FIT the model, they’re not too big. With my body type and large calves, I couldn’t do this style, but I don’t mind these wide leg jeans:
Yes, they look super-soft and comfortable, but I’m not going to be doing the distressed/destroyed denim OR the tuck/fold look anytime soon, and I’m sure as hell not going to be paying more than $200 for jeans. Ever. Are you?? Please let me know what you think about this trend…did you do it the first time around? Do you think you’ll do it now? Leave a comment!!
