Everybody Boxy Trash Tee | $25
Do you know EVERYBODY? The company launched this year by two first-generation Americans (daughters of Mexican immigrants) and American Apparel alums (it’s sort of obvious when you see their imaging/messaging, but in a better way than we’re used to). EVERYBODY is
dedicated to creating soulful, seasonless basics alongside outrageous and comfortable lifestyle-goods
What a great mission 🙂
I think they’re mostly known for their “trash tee” which is made from 100% recycled cotton and available in tons of colors, AND ONLY $25. AND made in LA. I haven’t tried one, and truly don’t need another plain tee, but if I was in the market for a white tee, I’d buy one in a heartbeat.
But I also LOVE LOVE LOVE their collaborations with everyday extraordinary people like Dolores, Prakesh, and Margo & Ed.

Prakesh button-front shirt | $110
One of the very best ways the fashion industry can become more sustainable is to re-use what’s already out there, so I love companies that recycle and/or use surplus fabrics in their designs; it’s almost as good as buying second hand.
I found another recycled cotton top by newcomer to sustainable fashion, Bayou (by Nikki Reed), which is cute, and interesting.
And MOO, purveyor of ultra-hip business cards (I have used them for years…) is now offering business cards made from 100% recycled cotton from the fashion industry. They’re also offering 25% off all orders right now – BONUS!! Ordering right this second…
OMG thanks for this. Love, love, love, love, love. Love the models, love the products. Ordered 5 things (2 as gifts) and waitlisted 3 more. Thanks Grechen!
BTW, been complaining about the cold all summer, but today, even in air conditioning, had to take off a short, loose dress in rayon (Osei Duro) and put on an even looser caftan in cotton gauze (Emerson Fry). Hurray?????
OT, but looking at a Robert Clergerie shoe for the first time, and it’s online. I know you like them; how do they fit?
oh!! what did you order?? I’m so tempted by the skirt i mentioned (probably not in white!), but have no need for it…
which shoes? i cannot get enough of them; they’re the most comfortable non-birkenstock, non-vince-sneakers shoes i own 🙂
but sizing sometimes depends on the shoe…in general, i wear a US size 8 and take a 38.5 and sometimes 39
The pictured outfit at the top in blue, the cropped message T in apple (I think that’s the only colour not on waitlist) and two packs of cards as gifts. I waitlisted the cropped message T in rainbow words (white), the pjs, and the tank. Hope I chose the right size!
velvet sling-backs. I can’t wear mules, even indoors, they just slide off my feet, so this is the closest I can get. They are on sale at NeedSupply. I may have ordered a half size too small at a 38, but they didn’t have a 38.5 and I didn’t think a 39 would work. It’s a sandal so I wouldn’t be able to put in a layer to make it fit better. Fingers crossed!
did you check with them on the sizing? i HATE IT when places don’t use the sizing that’s on the actual shoe…i haven’t seen that specific shoe, but robert clergerie’s sizes are listed in french sizes not american ones. if they translated correctly (and according to their size chart), then the size 8 is a 38.5, but who knows. pet peeve….
i had those sandals on my wishlist at shopbop forever, but decided to pass in favor of some loafers/oxfords for fall
I scoped out Nikki Reed’s site and while the clothes are minimalist and lovely, I could “make them with love” on my own sewing machine in my dining room! Until prices come down for sustainable clothes, they’re never really going to be a “thing” for the middle class, but sadly, for the 1%.
ha ha ha….yes! I totally agree with you. About the styles: yes, one can do it oneself, but what about finding the sustainable fabrics to sew? That’s the kicker! And about the prices: true of everything I see on almost all sustainable sites (sorry, Grechen! I love you! But you do have a very upscale wardrobe that most can only dream of!)
True, Kathryn…sustainable fabrics are another story! I think it will happen eventually, but for now, it’s a dream. I might check out sources for sustainable fabric lengths for us home sewers. (Grechen, I love you too! But I dream of your wardrobe, too!)
i agree with you guys, mostly. and i’m always conflicted when i feature such expensive things or whatever, because i KNOW how expensive they are and therefore out of reach of most people. i wouldn’t have a lot of the things i have had i not received them from the designer directly, or purchased them with credits from garmentory, or shopbop. those credits and invitations from designers to review things have been hard-earned over the years, but still.
i really just try to feature whatever i can that is sustainable, independent, etc., no matter the price range, just to get the info out there. i’m not necessarily advocating that everyone run right out and buy it, just providing information 🙂
Your posts are great! I’m obviously an avid reader. We’re just wishing sustainable was more affordable. Having said that, there are a few more achievable offerings out there, and we (as in consumers) should be less addicted to cheap clothes in general. I have nothing against product made overseas, I support jobs for everyone (much better than “charity” IMO), but not at the cost of workers lives and well-being, here or anywhere.
Your credits and gifted items are well-deserved, Grechen!!! I agree with Kathryn that I wish sustainable was easier on the wallet. It’s so far away as a reality for most of us! I wanted to make the point that “sustainable” is still in its infancy. I’d love to see the concept grow with more clothing manufacturers, designers, stores, etc. But the bottom line for them is money, so until it starts to be profitable to be ecologically sound, we probably won’t see lower prices. (I guess it’s kind of like DVD players or printers…They’re really expensive, then the technology is everywhere, and finally the price come down so almost everyone can get one!) 🙂
Sorry Grechen, I know not your favourite look, but for those who like prints, I am linking People Tree again, for somewhat more affordable and I think beautiful looks (thanks Alyson for bringing these offerings to my attention!) http://www.peopletree.co.uk/edits/va-collection?utm_source=Affiliate&utm_medium=LinkShare&utm_campaign=QFGLnEolOWg&utm_content=15&utm_term=UKNetwork&siteID=QFGLnEolOWg-WDqFNakDqqzjCQYwzwZxUw
And here is a sexy/modest dress in BLACK! 😉 http://www.peopletree.co.uk/sale/teagan-wrap-dress-in-black
haha! i like that tulip print, from afar 😉
I’m glad that the prints didn’t sear off your retinas!!!!! They do have black or navy backgrounds, after all. 😉
