Isn’t it interesting how weather/seasons influence the colors/fabrics/textures we want to wear? Every summer I think I need to pull out my vintage straw tote and carry it with abandon; feeling like I’m going to the pool or beach at any moment. Canvas or straw is more “carefree” than leather or suede, which is perhaps why it feels so right for summer. In practice, I don’t normally switch over to full canvas/straw for summer, but I do like to have the option when I want to give my outfit the summer treatment. What about you? do you switch over to non-leather bags for summer? What are your favorites?
Here are more of mine…

I have a tote bag “problem” (like you do for harem pants? 🙂 I can’t resist a fun & useful tote. I do switch to lighter (even just visually) totes for the summer. Right now I have this new gorgeous Dash & Albert rug tote:http://www.dashandalbert.com/product/view/fisher-ticking-woven-cotton-tote-bag–RDA155-CB
It’s really large and somewhat heavy, with no zipper or internal organization, but I still love it (and I use it for work and I’m not walking far) My other new tote this year is a sailcloth tote – recycled sails, red & white, does have a zipper & internal organization. Love them both! (this was the year that I got rid of 3 totes that were finally falling apart)
haha! yes, i suppose i do have a harem pants problem 😉
love that tote! and i’ve wanted a sailcloth tote for years…but lately, i’ve just tended to stay with leather for summer. unless of course, i really am going to the beach or pool.
I always switch from leather to straw or canvas for summer. Or at least a light/bright, summery color of leather. I have an orange leather tote from Halogen that I use a lot because I can fit a pair of ballet flats or flip flops in there along with a magazine or book for travel. Plus, I just got the two tone canvas/leather tote in coral/beige from GAP and I love that. (Now if GAP would just take care of their overseas employees or, better yet, move production to the USA…). I’ve had straw, and I love the look, but they always seem to snag my more fragile tops! GRRR….
I just saw the shark tote from J Crew! That would be so perfect for Montauk. Then again, I might not want to go in the water if I over-think it 😉
i love that shark tote, it’s actually a collaboration with virginia johnson! she makes the best prints…
I love her scarves! This is the first time I’ve seen this collaboration. Hadn’t even read about it! Thx, G!
I can’t use straw (or similar) either – always snags something. Or, if cheaply made, unravels…..I love the look of some, but….
