I generally prefer sleeveless or short-sleeve dresses because they’re more practical for the weather in Texas, and I like the ability to layer with abandon; which is more difficult with sleeves. And I’ve also fallen for the stylist’s mantra that you should balance out proportions a bit: when you’re wearing a long dress, show some arm, and when you’re covered up on top, show some leg.
But lately I’m thinking that’s a bunch of hooey, because I LOVE the looks below (especially the James Perse one) where everything is covered up. Maybe a long/maxi turtleneck dress isn’t the most flattering, but the dresses I chose below all show some skin: ankle, leg, a little cleavage…enough not to border on sister-wife territory. And I am LOVING all the long-sleeve dresses now, maybe I won’t be able to wear them all year in Texas, but maybe that shouldn’t be a very big deal…

What do you think about long-sleeve dresses? Do you wear them? or do you prefer sleeveless or short-sleeve?
There are SOOOOO many more long-sleeve dresses (lots of Raquel Allegra!) -> onward

I have that same Enzo Costa one saved in my ShopBop “hearts”. I heart it, indeed.
I am all for the long sleeve dress and have a great T by Alexander Wang one with it a neat twist at the waist that gives it some shape. I find it really versatile- I wear it with a blazer for work and then with big jewelry and a lotta eye makeup if I go out (very witchy/Stevie Nicks, ha!).
me too π of course ANYTHING with thumbholes goes on a wish list immediately. i don’t even care what else it has going for it. thumbholes kill me everytime…
this – also in my cart, even though I don’t like dolman sleeves on me: http://www.shopbop.com/dolman-tee-skin/vp/v=1/1595043724.htm?fm=search-viewall-shopbysize – thumbholes!!!
i remember that t by alexander wang dress, wish i had gotten it!
Oh man, you’ve got a LOT of not just good ones, but GREAT ones up there! I love the Raquel Allegra and had pinned it already because it’s SOOOO good! I love the Enzo Costa, too, but find his fabrics are usually thinner and I need a little more hold. I really love the gray Lanston with the belt, too. I think it would be flattering.
the raquel allegras kill me.. i love all of them, but why do they have to be so expensive?? i’ve even been stalking some of her pieces on ebay, but they’re STILL expensive. i might have to just bite the bullet and just get that dress already. and i do love the enzo costa, but the fabric might be an issue – it’s good to know. maybe when it goes on MAJOR sale π
of course the lanston would be perfect…
I do the same thing, watching on ebay, but you’re totally right! They are STILL very expensive (especially if they’re used…geezums!) I also love Raben Saloner’s dresses (very similar to Raquel Allegra) but they’re just as pricey and hard to find. I have a shop near me that sells them, so I’m watching to see if anything goes on clearance. It’s that nice oversized silhouette that we love!
I’m looking for more 3/4 sleeve dresses that can go from work to weekend. I can’t do long sleeves and long length…too much fabric on my 5 3 frame.
BTW, my favorite dress from last year was the James Perse sweatshirt dress.http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/james-perse-raglan-sleeve-sweatshirt-dress/3544078?origin=shoppingbag
And now I’m trying to find the Lacoste sweatshirt dress…let me know if you have any tips in tracking it down. http://shop.lacoste.com/Sleeve-Sweatshirt-Dress-With-Leather/dp/B006WNULLM#.UjG8xz-wD_c
Oh, and more fall dresses under the $250 price point please π
