Top row:
CP Shades Bree a-line linen dress | $235 at Calypso
J crew linen tunic | $98 at J Crew (pre-order – LOVE this!!)
Vince beach linen pants | $175 at Nordstrom
Bottom row, left to right:
Joie maddie top | $108 at Joie (I bought one of these several years ago because the shape is PERFECT. I wore it for quite a while before I noticed it was getting a few holes, but it also shrunk a lot because I accidentally put it in the dryer. The dryer basically ruined it – I don’t think it would have developed holes if I’d taken care of it better. I still wear it layered because I just love it)
Vince linen sweater | $245 at Shopbop
Eileen Fisher slub linen tee | $138 at Nordstrom
I love linen tees for summer – the Joie Maddie linen tee was my first, and I have another Joie linen tee, but they’re pretty high maintenance, and I’ve managed to ruin both of them. I still wear them layered, if I can manage to cover up the holes, but I love that they’re the perfect shape, and so soft and breezy for hot summer weather. For cheaper versions, I also have an H&M linen tee, which isn’t as soft, or as good as the Joie one (the shape is “off”), but I wear it and it works. Zara also has good linen t-shirts, they’re a bit more “flattering” than H&Ms, and good alternatives to more expensive versions if you’re afraid of ruining them, or if you think you won’t wear them very often. Also Calypso’s private label linen tees are just $65, and come in lots of colors and necklines.
I also love linen dresses & pants, but am always hesitant because they are SHEER. I have a navy linen dress by CP Shades that is wonderful, but I don’t wear it as often as I’d like because it has to be layered (I do wear it at the beach over my swimsuit – perhaps that’s what it’s best for?). And white linen pants? Don’t even get me started…I am mortified to try them myself, but I love the idea of them with a simple dark tank top and flat sandals.
What do you think? Do you love linen for summer? What are your favorite linen pieces?
Here are more of my favorites, all under $100 π

I adore linen pieces for summer wear. I find that a linen tunic or tee works very well with white jeans or with leggings for me, keeping me cool and comfy. The only problem I have is that it has to be SOFT. If it is the least bit scratchy, it will make my eczema flare-up. (weird, huh?). And I don’t mind wrinkles. I see that as part of linen’s natural appeal.
ah, the elusive white jeans…maybe i’ll finally be able to find a pair i like on me!!
one of the SA’s in Calypso this afternoon was wearing one of their flowy white linen tops and jeans and I loved the outfit, but it’s just too hot for that here in the summer. i’d love to find a linen dress that has some lining – but then, if it’s lined, it’s not as “cool”…
Too hot even for the flowy linen tops? I don’t think I would ever survive in Austin! At least not outside. And I thought it was hot in Atlanta when you were there!!
I’m not too big on lining. I feel like that makes a linen garment too “finished” and I like the loose, hippie appeal. (I was a teen in the 70’s, what can I say? π
no, not too hot for linen tops, but definitely too hot for leggings or jeans…
atlanta is hot and humid, but not as hot as austin. i prefer the austin heat, i guess, but i’d be happier living in 80 degrees all the time π
