They’re back. Sort of. A lot of crimes against humanity (thanks Sarge for those lovely images) have been perpetrated by denim skirts, but they’re starting to have a revival, and I predict we’ll see more options as we get closer to spring. Even now, there are some great ADULT options out there. Grunge is back, and 90’s fashion is having a resurgence but I think (hope) that it’s more mature, modern, and tasteful than the frayed denim minis of days gone by. Or maybe that’s just us. We are more mature, modern & tasteful…
I’ve always loved denim pencil skirts, and had one years ago by Goldsign that I wore a lot. I also had one by 7 for all Mankind that was distressed, and midi-length that I wore TO DEATH. Now, all I have is a long denim skirt by Mother, which I still love, but I’m craving a new denim pencil skirt, and can’t decide if I want dark wash, or distressed. Or if I just want the MiH boyfriend hem version – I’m sort of obsessed with that.
What are your thoughts on denim skirts? Will you wear one? Do you own one?
I think I wore a denim skirt at least four days a week for freshman and sophomore years of college. There was the dark pencil skirt that seems SO chic, and then tons of distressed mini skirts that now make me shudder. I would need to find a really really good one to consider trying this trend again.
I adamantly agree, Jessica. I’m so “done” with denim skirts. They make me think of stale patchouli perfume, and the locker room in junior high!

haha! you missed that one? i love that skirt, but it doesn’t do my saddlebags any favor, so i don’t wear it very often, sadly. i saw it online at lastcall first, then sought it out when i was there, and had to buy it! but i have a thing for long skirts, denim or otherwise…
Lol, at the crimes against humanity post. I didn’t own any of those kinds of denim skirts when they were out but boy do I remember them well.
It’s so interesting that you would have this post as I’ve been wanting a denim skirt. I owned a denim skirt some time a go that was really cute but it had a slit in the front and I’ve always felt it was work inappropriate. I’m at a point now were as much as I love wearing jeans, I’m kind of sick of the ones I have and need other casual wear options. I think a denim skirt would fit that bill but finding the right one is key. Nothing with distressing, no rips, not a mini and doesn’t cost a fortune; not much has popped up minus a designer version and $200+ on denim is a no go for me.
I saw one from Joe Fresh on JCPenney’s website that would be perfect but apparently everyone else thinks so too because all of the sizes are sold out. 🙁
