I outlined how I make money with Grechen’s Closet on this post recently, but as a reminder, one of the ways I earn “money” is with store credit: referral credit at Garmentory (you get $20, I get $20 when you sign up for an account through my referral link), and store credit at Shopbop for displaying their widget in the sidebar.
I have been saving up my credit at Shopbop for a while, in anticipation of a spring coupon code, so I could get the most value for my “money,” and it’s here: use code GOBIG18 for 15% off orders over $200, 20% off orders over $500 and 25% off orders over $800. If you’re not familiar with Shopbop, they’re really a great resource for lots of made in the US designers (James Perse, Baggu, Goldsign) and they’ve added quite a few indie & luxury designers over the years as well: Rachel Comey, Coclico, Marni and lots more. They are very good about listing the origin of all the garments in their descriptions also, so you’ll always know where a piece is made.
I’ve been shopping Shopbop for more than a decade, and that was way before I started earning credits every month from them, or started getting affiliate commissions. They have superb customer service, and amazing selection. And love or hate Amazon (I kinda love it), you can get free prime shipping if you have it too.
Anyway, on to the loot 🙂
James Perse Yosemite Blocked leggings | I ordered these in size 2
After having so many problems with my Elizabeth Suzann Cecilia pants (I loved them, but they never fit my legs right) I decided that I think I just need another pair of thick, substantial leggings for “slim” black pants, instead of “slim black pants” if that makes sense. Pants are hard for me to find that fit my calves, leggings always fit, since they’re supposed to be fitted LOL. Anyway, I ALWAYS know that JP works for my body and height, so I decided to try these.
James Perse v-neck tee | I ordered size 1
This tee is actually made from 100% recycled (cotton) fibers, although Shopbop doesn’t note that.
Size 1 is my normal short sleeve JP tee size – I have to get size 2 in long sleeves to fit my upper arms though.
Rag & Bone Roman Cardigan | size small
This was definitely my “wild card” piece in this order. I saw the Roman pullover in person and really loved the color, but I know myself, and the cardigan is much more practical for me, so I ordered it. It’s 100% cotton, and the more I learn about Rag & Bone the more I appreciate how thoughtful they are about manufacturing and choosing what to produce. Could be better…but I’ve always loved any Rag & Bone items I’ve had. And look!! It’s pink!!!! A color!!!! But still sort of a neutral, so it’ll fit right into my wardrobe.
Melissa X Baja East Cosmic Slides | I’m an 8 and always wear an 8 in Melissa
Melissa X Baja East Beach Slides | ditto
In case you’ve missed it, every summer I sing the praises of Melissa shoes. They are plastic, and recyclable, although I’ve not had a pair wear out on me yet – my oldest pair of sandals is 10 years old and still going strong. Even though Melissa plastic shoes are popping up all over the place, they are still a relatively small company and true to their indie roots. And, they are comfortable.
Anyway, more on this later (it deserves its own post), but I was seconds away from ordering a pair of leather Robert Clergerie slides (from my wardrobe planning post), and/or this pair of Jacquemus “clown” oxfords (I love them so much!!!!), but I am really trying to avoid buying new leather. I’m not always succeeding (I bought a pair of Feit mules earlier this year), but when I can find pieces I love that aren’t leather, then I will choose those instead. I will talk more about this later, but no, it’s not because I think non-leather is more eco-friendly – IT’S NOT!!! – it’s that I personally don’t think I need to buy leather right now, just like I also believe I don’t need to eat animals.
So, that’s what I bought. I also wanted to get these Adidas X Parley shoes (Parley uses recycled ocean plastic, so these shoes are super-eco!) but didn’t – I will save them for next month. Have you ordered anything? Have any questions about James Perse pieces? This sale is a good time to get “new” James Perse at a great discount!!
I love James Perse leggings! I got their brushed jersey leggings at last year’s Shopbop sale (on your recommendation) and wear them so so much but unfortunately they don’t have them this year. I’m not supposed to be shopping at all but couldn’t resist getting the Tibi Lia slingbacks in white (I have them in black already so I know their low kitten heel is walkable for me). Sigh…this is not a good time to practice shopping restraint. Elizabeth Suzann is launching their jersey collab in a few hours…
i’m wearing my jersey JP leggings right now 🙂 they are THE BEST LEGGINGS. and those tibi shoes are beautiful!!
i’m super-excited about the ES jersey launch, but i don’t think i’ll buy anything for a while.
I really like the styles of the Melissa sandals, but thinking about wearing plastic shoes gives me flashbacks to gross, sweaty, blistery feet in jelly sandals from the 90s. Do you have a problem with sweaty feet or blisters in Melissa sandals? Do they rub in any way?
nope. i don’t think i’d wear the closed toe shoes, or oxfords, but my melissa shoes are always 100% comfortable right out of the box. no sweaty feet. THAT SAID : my feet aren’t very sweaty to begin with. in the beginning it might take a little getting used to the plastic, and i might have some discomfort or rubbing some places, but not very often. and when i do, i just put some moleskine on the place where the shoe rubs and all is well 🙂
they do smell like bubble gum, but that disseminates after a while. it’s just the light scent of the plastic, so it doesn’t smell plastic-y
