(uh…this scarf?? 15% off at Elizabeth Suzann)
I had such a great birthday yesterday, thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of you who wrote to me; your words had as much or more impact on me as mine did on you. And just because I think it might have been confusing, I turned 43 yesterday, not 44 (I’m just starting my 44th year on the planet…)!
Since I’m still in a slight food coma from our amazing dinner last night, this post will be sort of a mish-mash of a few things I want to mention briefly:
First, Elizabeth Suzann is having a moving sale: 15% off everything with code MOVINGDAY. Several readers have bought a few pieces recently and rave about them. Perhaps if you have any questions about anything, leave a comment here and someone will chime in with advice? I’m not buying anything, but my goodness, look at the color of this scarf!! Yes, COLOR. Such a beautiful, rich color for fall…
Next, Shopbop took some major markdowns on in-season pieces today, including LOTS of really great bags and shoes. Interestingly, the James Perse dress I wore last night to my birthday dinner is marked down this morning, and of course, I promptly called and got a price adjustment since I only just ordered it last week with credits left over after I returned nearly everything I ordered during the friends & family sale.
In addition to the JP dress, I also re-ordered the size 28 in the 3×1 cropped jeans I originally bought in size 29. They’re wonderful, but I had to take them to be hemmed and just got them back yesterday. I also took in the IRO jeans I wore last week to be taken in at the waist, which turned out beautifully (I washed both pairs of jeans in cold water and laid them out to dry before taking them in). Bonus: the tapering in at the waist makes my *ss look even better LOL. I’m wearing the IRO jeans right now actually. At home.
Another sale of note: Rodale’s is offering an additional 20% off sale items, ending today I think. You don’t need a code for this, the discount is automatic. Many of the items I featured in my 24-piece sustainable fall wardrobe are on sale now, in addition to some organic cotton undies. Almost their entire Kowtow collection (organic cotton pieces from New Zealand) is on sale as well.
Speaking of sustainable style and shopping, I finally finished a piece I’d been working on for some months on boycotts and “ethical shopping” over at GrechenReiter.com. It’s mostly a discussion of a summer article by Michael Hobbes, The Myth of the Ethical Shopper, and a more in-depth look at how much we can actually affect change by shopping, or not shopping as it were. Please take a look if you’re interested!
Finally, in case you missed it, or haven’t seen, I launched a “shop” which I’ll update frequently with things from my closet, mostly pre-loved, some “mistakes,” and some things that are new and have never been worn. I will get more into this later, but as I was moving my exclusively fall/winter things back into my closet a few weeks ago, I weeded it out even further of some summer things I didn’t wear this year at all. I know it’s not the season for those things specifically, but I’ll put them in the shop and if they’re interesting to you, please take a look! Everything ships for $5 and some things I’ll put in the shop for “free” although I’ll put a nominal price in there ($10) to cover shipping costs (look for the long Everlane shirt dress up soon!).
Elizabeth Suzann is killing me! I’m awaiting an order I placed prior to this sale (replacing a sweater I sent back plus another top). My budget is done. However I did send the link and discount code to my mom with my Christmas wish (is that cheating?).
For anyone contemplating ES I have been very happy with the items I have and very eagerly awaiting the others. These clothes are not inexpensive but are very well made, look great and are so comfortable. I don’t work for her and I’m not a model!
Look at that! 43 and already, you’ve made changes…i.e. Wearing your new jeans at home! 😉 (Seriously, tho, I totally get you!)
I’m glad that the tailoring worked out. It makes me think I ought to try it. I’m still losing weight, and have a long way to go, but it would be nice if some of my 14’s could be sized down to 12’s, at least in the waist.
Love that scarf! For me, color, as in a scarf, is a great accent to wear with black, white or grey. Her pieces are so architectural…love them! (I think I recall you using that term, and it seemed perfect.)
Oh!!! And I’m SO excited! I found the Black Crane dress at an indi site in Forest. They were fantastic with customer service: http://www.makersmaking.com/
That’s called clever, Laurie! (I do the same thing!)
Grechen – sorry I missed your last couple of posts. I’ll have to catch up. A belated happy birthday ?
Oops that was supposed to be a smile not a question mark! 🙂
I’m smitten with everything on the Elizabeth Suzann site and the only thing that’s kept me from ordering so far is that I’ve had a tough time narrowing my choices. It doesn’t hurt that the model is amazingly gorgeous. Or that a few of the pieces are named for my some of my favorite artists But this is it. Finger hovering on the button … Laurie – what pieces do you have and what are you waiting for? Do you have thoughts on the Sullivan sweater vs the Eva sweater? I worry a little that the fuzzy texture of the Sullivan won’t look so nice after a while so I might be leaning toward the Eva. I think Eva looks better in navy but I’m not comfortable wearing navy with my black bottoms so I’d be getting the gray. Eva is more affordable of course. Relatively. 😉
The Eva sweater (in Navy) has been the one thing I sent back. I loved it with my black pants. I ordered the small and I probably could have used the extra-small. It was also a little too itchy for me. However once the cold weather returns to Nashville you’ll have to pry the Jane kimono off my body!
I haven’t seen or felt the Sullivan so no help there.
Thanks Laurie!
The Eva fabric does look like it has itch potential! Hmmmm.,, I’ll take a second look at navy as well. It’s nice with the model’s black pants 🙂
The Jane kimono is amazing – also on my list!
I ordered the modal Florence Pant in navy. It’s my first EZ piece and I’m very excited. Only 14 or so sleeps until it arrives 😉
I’ve been eyeing her linen tops for a while, but was a bit hesitant given the price. I also love most of EZ’s dresses, but so far I’ve only been buying similar versions at COS.
Why did I call her EZ? I meant ES.
That’s all 😉
Oh I love birthdays!! Congrats ?
Damn emojis!! That’s a cake with candles, not a ?
haha! i don’t think emojis translate very well on this platform 🙂
i appreciate the sentiment though , thank you!
yay! we can be twins!! 😉
i love that scarf so much – even that color…
Has anyone ordered the Margaret or Lena “turtlenecks” – I love the Margaret in terra-cotta and the Lena in creamy white? Great for rainy, cold days on the West Coast!
