Derek Lam Caped Jacket with Leather Trim

This Derek Lam jacket is INSANE. But honestly, I only noticed it because I fell in love with it on a Shopbop model at their Fashion’s Night Out event in NYC:

I know it’s not a great picture, but she never turned around for me to get a better picture of her; I was SO starstruck by the Shopbop models!! (ask Elissa…) And I don’t ever get starstruck…LOL

Also notice the Rag & Bone sweater on the other model…

I love this Vince sweater!!! Right now, it’s sold out in every size but large, which is just a bit too big for me, but if you think you can wear it, GET IT!! I tried it on in a size small a few weeks ago when it went on sale at co-op and it was too small, but I really love the idea of wearing it over a tank dress, or with jeans when the weather is cooler…

Vince Cropped Crew Sweater

Today only,it’s an extra 20% off at Shopbop with code EXTRA20 (the EXTRA20 code is valid only on sale items already marked down by 50-70%)

What to shop at Shopbop

by grechen on July 19, 2011 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

Have you shopped the Shopbop sale yet? I’ve spent the whole morning drooling over the pieces in my “hearts” section that have gone on sale.:

Joie Eunice Long Skirt

Joie Eunice skirt: $131.60. I tried this on a month or so ago at Saks and fell hard for it. I ALMOST paid full-price for it then and there, but didn’t. I still love it, but I might have enough long skirts…

Rag & Bone/JEAN The Maxi Dress

Rag & Bone/JEAN maxi dress: $136.50. I also tried this on quite some time ago and almost bought it. I love the seam stitching and the back of the dress. I did better with a size medium, the large was way too long on me.

Majestic Crossover Wrap Dress

Majestic crossover wrap dress: $105. I haven’t tried this on in real life, but I love it. Majestic quality always seems to be very high whenever I look at it at Nordstrom, but the prices are generally higher than I’m willing to pay. Now that this dress is down to $105, it’s more reasonable. And I love linen…

Joe's Jeans Camo Flat Toe Ring Sandals

Joe’s Jeans Toe-ring Sandals: $43. I tried these on at NM last call a LONG time ago. I thought they were true to size, but I wished the thicker strap was a little more narrow. If they have your size in stock though, you can’t beat the price tag now.

KORS Michael Kors Zen Toe Ring Flat Sandals

Kors Michael Kors toe-ring sandals: $105. I’ve been wanting these for a long time…

Velvet Berta Tie Waist Dress

velvet Berta dress: $75. I always love a good simple dress – and orange is one of the only colors I can tolerate well :)

Have you bought anything? Will you buy anything?

Defining your Style

by grechen on September 13, 2010 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

I was interviewed this weekend by a new student newspaper at the University of Texas, The Horn, for a piece they’re doing on local fashion bloggers, and one of the questions Jasmin asked was “how do you define your style?” I’ve always had a hard time doing that, because I’ve never thought about how to label myself; I don’t put much stock in applying “names” to things. But if I had to, I guess I’d call my style “casual chic.” Or maybe just casual ;)

My ideal outfit is a pair of jeans (Goldsign), a white t-shirt (James Perse), long cashmere cardigan (Inhabit NY) & a pair of ballet flats (Repetto) or clogs. Throw in an Alexander Wang bag, a pair of Melissa Joy Manning hoops, and I’m good to go. I would vary that a bit by maybe switching the jeans for a long black skirt, or trading the cashmere cardigan for a military jacket, but that’s the essence of my style: casual & easy, featuring luxurious fabrics and interesting styles. I love simple & subtle, but always add one piece (usually a bag) with an unexpected detail that stands out, but doesn’t scream “look at me!!!!!”

So, I was still thinking about my style, and what I want to wear this Fall (it was something else we talked about), when I pulled up Shopbop to check out the new arrivals (I do this religiously every morning, sometimes even before I check my e-mail…) and was mesmerized by their Ultimate Closet feature this week. Usually I just gloss over these types of features; I’m not much for anyone telling me how to style things, but if I could, I would literally buy every piece in the feature. And wear them ALL Fall & Winter.

Shop shopbop's Fall closet

In this case, I LOVE the styling they did for the feature – I have never given this Roxanne Diane maxi dress a second look because it looks shapeless and boring, but they’ve made it interesting by pairing it with a long wrap sweater and a belt:

I WANT TO WEAR THAT (I’d move the belt up a bit higher so it sat on my waist) all Fall. And these:

Sigh. If only I believed it was every going to get cooler here. And I had a bigger bank account ;) I have tried for years to make my closet “the ultimate closet” full of things that all go together and are essentially timeless, so I love the idea of buying 10 pieces to mix and match all season…

What do you want to wear for Fall? How do you define your style when someone asks? How would you define my style?

Alexander Wang sale items at Shopbop

March 9, 2010

Shopbop did a round of new markdowns overnight, and while there are lots of other great designers on sale, of COURSE I was drawn to the Alexander Wang pieces. Some of the bags are marked 30% off and there are several great T by Alexander Wang tops/dresses on sale; I always take the opportunity to [...]

Rachel Comey Ipswich Wedges

March 5, 2010

I’ve had the Rachel Comey Ipswich wedges in my “hearts” section at Shopbop since I saw them…and today, I see that Gargyle has them in silver. SILVER!!! They are beautiful. Somehow Rachel manages to bring together an oxford-style, tassels, peep-toe AND wedges and make them seem like they belong together. Sadly, they’re $340. *sigh*

Necessary Neon

February 10, 2010

I’m a huge fan of neon accessories – I love the idea of a significant pop of color with an otherwise neutral outfit – but I’ve only recently become a fan of belts also. Now, I’m obsessed with NEON belts! This first one in neon yellow by Micro Giovannini is my absolute favorite, especially with [...]

Look What I Found: White La Mer Watch

October 26, 2009

I have such an issue with watches. I mean, I used to not be able to leave the house with out my watch (but that was before cell phones were so ubiquitous – yes, I lived in such a time LOL), and now, I am living happily without one, although I’d REALLY REALLY like one. [...]

Outfit: Hudson Jeans Leggings

September 24, 2009

So, remember when I told you I ordered the Hudson “jeggings”? You thought I was kidding didn’t you…. Well, they’re here!! First, I’m not sure you can call them “jeggings” as they’re not denim – they’re 90% cotton 10% spandex – they’re more like a pant-like legging. But they’re totally shaped like jeans, and they [...]
