rebecca minkoff morning after clutch

When I was switching out the stuff from “Donna” the other day to use my new Rebecca Minkoff morning after clutch, I thought it would be fun to do an “in my bag” post. I haven’t done one in a while, not since I got my Anna Corinna mini city tote and photographed everything that fit in there, so I thought it was time. Also, I wanted to show what would fit comfortably in the Minkoff bag for those other big bag girls who are afraid to downsize!

Here’s what’s in the Alexander Wang:

First, and most importantly, a Comme des Garcons wallet. I’ve had this wallet for about two years, and can imagine carrying it forever. I love a big wallet to keep everything organized – receipts, cards, money, etc., and when i walk down the street for a bite to eat, I put my phone and keys inside and carry it like a clutch. This is wallet perfection.

I also have a Comme des Garcons pouch for pills, odds & ends, etc. I have a bit of an obsession with Comme des Garcons – I love to browse through the selection, especially at Dover Street Market, and imagine having a wallet in every color, and a couple of pouches. I stalked this one at Shopbop until it went down to $50 from $175 I think. I love the pink, and it has butterflies embossed on it, in case you can’t see.

In the silver Stila bag is a BAGGU bag that the wonderful Candice from Fashion Ethic sent me last year. BAGGUs come with their own carrying bags, but I lost it quickly, so this has had to suffice. I carry this with me all the time, everywhere. I use this bag when shopping at the mall, the bookstore, wherever – reusable bags aren’t just for the grocery store you know!

Random stuff…lots of lip “stuff” – I can’t go more than an hour without re-applying lip balm, so I usually have one in every pocket (and there’s a couple more tubs/tubes in my makeup bag!), spare key for my fiancĂ©’s car, Google G1 phone (love!!), cheapie sunglasses (I cannot spend $$ on sunglasses), and a couple of Ricola cough drops.

Now here’s what made it into the Rebecca Minkoff…

My wallet fits nicely actually, if there’s not much else in there. And no, I cannot remove the essentials from my wallet and not carry it. My wallet is like an extension of myself! Since I don’t NEED everything that’s in my makeup pouch, I just took out my inhaler (I’m such a dork, but I cannot be anywhere without it…just in case), and of course my trusty rosebud salve and I’m good to go. Then my phone fits in one of the side pouches inside, and my keys I put in the outside zipper pocket. More could fit in this bag, but as I discovered yesterday when I tried to fit more in there, it’s difficult to get my wallet back inside after taking it out with more stuff in there.

If anybody’s up for it, I’d love to see what’s in your bag!

The New Mini Messenger.

by grechen on March 25, 2009 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

I will always be a big-bag girl – I love the way bigger bags look on most women, but they’re also much more practical for daily use. I personally carry mostly BIG bags, but I do have one smaller bag (a Chloe Paddington camera messenger bag) that I use when I need a small bag (which is hardly ever…). Messenger style is really the only way I like smaller bags – it’s a more flattering way to wear small bags than tucked under your arm, and way more fashion-forward.

My all-time favorite mini-messenger bag was the mini Billie by Mayle, which are all gone by now, but luckily this season, the mini-messenger is making a huge comeback.

Here are some of my favorites:

I love See by Chloe’s new perforated leather bags, especially the bright colors. And the Miu Miu is just gorgeous…

See by Chloe at Net-a-Porter: $400Miu Miu at Net-a-Porter: $425

This West/Feren bag is so tiny, I can’t imagine what it would even carry, but the ethnic pattern and simple style is very cool:

West/Feren at Ravinstyle: $172

This is just a great, easy, inexpensive weekend messenger bag. The leather looks so supple, and while the hardware looks a little fussy in the picture, I think in real life, it works:

Topshop Leather Dogclip Satchel: $100

This Vanessa Bruno bag would be totally acceptable as a fancy schmancy evening bag, but would also work to give some edge to a pair of distressed jeans and white t-shirt. And the Wendy Nichols bag is so fantastically simple, easy, and clean.

Vanessa Bruno: $513

Vanessa Bruno Cuir Glace: $513

Wendy Nichol Small Cross City Bag at Bird: $395

Wendy Nichol: $395

I always love a good Hayden-Harnett bag…this one is a bag and wallet in one, with a long strap. Genius. Save 15% at Hayden-Harnett through June 1 with code “loyal.”

Hayden-Harnett KOKO: $298

Hayden-Harnett KOKO: $298

I actually nearly bought this Jill Stuart bag in black when it was on sale for about $100 at Shopbop…there was just something about it I loved – although I can’t say when I would have ever used it…

Jill Stuart at Bloomingdale's: $298

I ADORE this variation on the Trigger by Botkier. (Use code “luckybreaks12″ to save 25% off off the next two bags & more at Luna Boston!)

Small Botkier Trigger Cross-Body: $395

Small Botkier Trigger Cross-Body: $395

And this is the only mini-messenger I’d actually consider buying (unless I can find a cute Mini Billie on ebay or something…). I have a Morning After bag in tangerine and the color is more versatile than you think. This bag looks big enough to hold my essentials, and I’m a sucker for Rebecca’s hardware.

And finally, the roundup from shopbop…the Marc by Marc Jacobs turnlock style is sticky – I love it in this small messenger bag. And you KNOW my love for Jerome Dreyfuss – this Steve bag is so cool. But…you can never go wrong with LeSportsac!

Marc by Marc Jacobs at Shopbop: $198

Jerome Dreyfuss at Shopbop: $488

Lesportsac at Shopbop: $48

Which one is your favorite? do you favor small or big bags? are you going to be carrying a mini-messenger this season?
