hudson jeans leggings review hudson jeans leggings review

So, remember when I told you I ordered the Hudson “jeggings”? You thought I was kidding didn’t you….
Well, they’re here!! First, I’m not sure you can call them “jeggings” as they’re not denim – they’re 90% cotton 10% spandex – they’re more like a pant-like legging. But they’re totally shaped like jeans, and they fit like jeans – including the little bit of waist-gap LOL. Honestly, I’m not sure what jeggings are supposed to be – are they just super-skinny jeans? or are they like these Hudson’s? Jean-styling, without the denim material? Whatever…

Those of you who follow me on twitter probably saw my “they’re here” tweet; the package from Shopbop arrived just after I had finished eating a TON of chips & salsa (and half a chocolate chip cookie), so I was not looking forward to trying these on. And D’uh, I HAVE to try them on the moment they arrive!!! The kicker is, that even though I was bloated and stuffed, they still fit me wonderfully, and didn’t make me feel like a sausage stuffed into a too small casing. They may make me LOOK like that, but that’s another story LOL!!

I like them a lot. I have a hard time getting past the fact that they’re so comfortable…but they’re also a great fit. I love that they’re better at “holding” everything in than regular leggings, and I feel like the heavier material makes them look a bit more appropriate as “pants” or for wearing under tunics. BUT, I still have some issues with my legs. I mean, my legs are my legs, they’ve always been very difficult for me to deal with, and now, they’re especially flabby. Leggings/tights/Jeggings do not leave anything to the imagination (like denim does) so all my curves are out for the world to see…

And I think I might be getting okay with that :)

What do you think?

Details on sizing/fit/etc., for the Hudsons: I took a 32, which is my normal denim size, and they fit me perfectly except for about an inch gap in the waist – which I can handle. They’re also VERY long, I have them tucked under here, but may decide to get them hemmed. Oh, and they do have the signature Hudson flap pockets, which are a little much for my already big butt, but I don’t planning on showing it at all, so I think it’s all good…

In comparison, I tried on these Joe’s Jeans leggings yesterday at Anthropologie and can’t really say they’re any better or worse than these – I think they would be a great substitute actually. They were a little shorter, no flap pockets, and they are about $20 cheaper. They have less cotton in them also…which I think makes them more snug.

Hudson Jeggings…I ordered some.

Yep, you read that right. Thanks to Jennine at THE COVETED and Jaime, the Denim Debutante, I decided to try out a pair of Hudson’s “jeggings” myself. I can’t say I really believe that they’ll work on me, but I’ve been experimenting more with leggings lately, and like the idea of having a pair that is more “substantial” and can hold everything in better than just leggings.

(OMG, how scary do those look LOL!)

I am a firm believer in dressing for your body type, but I’m an even BIGGER believer in trying new things, and thinking outside “your body type,” for a different look…and that’s what I’m doing. Hopefully they’ll arrive this week, so stay tuned for pics & a review!!

Does anyone out there have these? What are your thoughts?

This is totally random, but I can’t stay quiet any longer. Yes, I wear leggings. I wear them only at home, because frankly, I can’t pull off leggings w/dress or tunic very well. Every night, when I’m “in” – finished walking the dog, finished working – I change into leggings and a tank top to chill out and watch a movie or read. And right now, my leggings of choice are these, by Bop Basics:

I bought these with a Shopbop Bop Basics coupon code a few months ago, and they are by far the softest, most comfortable leggings I’ve tried. I also have two pairs of Splendid leggings and one pair of American Apparel leggings. The American Apparel leggings are not soft, but they do hold everything “in” better than the others. The Splendid leggings are pretty soft, and comfortable, but both pairs have holes now in the seams (easily fixed, but still). The Shopbop Bop Basics leggings are maybe a little large, but so comfortable, and SO SOFT, I always choose those over the others.

Whenever Shopbop has another coupon code, you MUST snatch up a pair of these, you won’t be sorry. I’m going to get another pair…

Who makes your favorite leggings? Do you wear them only around the house? or everywhere?

What length leggings?

by grechen on July 26, 2007 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

I’m not a huge fan of leggings…I think they’re pointless and can sometimes look silly. But not always. And that, of course, didn’t stop me from trying them myself. I picked up a pair of EG Smith(my favorite brand of tights) footless tights at Anthropologie just to see if I could work them. I couldn’t. I tried them with a knee length dress, and a mid-thigh length tunic and neither was my best look. The leggings down to my ankle made me look a foot shorter (don’t need that), and actually made me calves look even larger in contrast with thinner looking ankles. It was awful, and although they could have been a significant learning experience for many who are considering leggings, I chose not to photograph myself in them. I mean, if I wouldn’t wear them outside the house, I’m not going to post pictures of them on the INTERNET!!!! Suffice it to say, I’m going to stick with tights and wedges this fall, I know that works for me. Anyway, I tried, and so should you – if only to reaffirm your belief that they won’t work on your body.

I do think some women can pull off leggings, especially worn tucked into boots, or with flats and a long sweater. But what length should they be? Ankle, or capri length? I’m not sure which I prefer, honestly, they can both shorten the line and make you look ‘stumpy,’ but which is worse? or better?
