I know I’m going to hate myself this afternoon for wearing jeans, but I’m going to wear them anyway. I’ll just try to stay in air conditioning as much as possible.
I spent an hour this morning trying on all my old jeans that I haven’t been able to fit into for several years. The good news is they fit me now, but I feel like a lot of the styles are so dated. I know a basic bootcut doesn’t ever go “out of style” and my favorite bootcut jeans are by James, but I still feel like they make me look like I’m stuck in 2005. I also have a great pair of J Brand flared black jeans that barely fit me when I bought them. I really love them, and they look amazing on me, but I don’t wear black jeans very often. Of course I have my new Madewell widelegger jeans, which are much thinner denim, but I wanted to wear flats today…
Then, I have two other pairs of J Brands I got via Rue La La for CHEAP that I can fit into now, but again, one pair is black, and it’s a wide-leg style and the other pair is a nice blue denim, also wide leg. I’m definitely going to get the blue denim pair hemmed, but am thinking about selling the new black pair.
I’ve always tried to just wear what flatters my figure, and flared or wide-leg jeans are THE BEST style for me – well, also bootcut – but I really long to be able to wear a nice straight jean that comes right to my ankle. These Gap jeans are kind of like that when I roll them up a bit, but I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to really find a pair like that which flatters my bottom-heavy body. And it makes me sad, because I have a fabulous pair of Dieppa Restreppo loafers I’m DYING to wear and they really need an ankle-length pair of jeans. I guess this Gap pair I’m wearing will kind of work for that, but the fit isn’t great.
What are your favorite jeans right now? Do you worry about looking dated? or do you wear what you love?

I really hate to put on clothes and leave the house lately…it’s been in the low 90′s here for a couple of weeks and it’s starting to wear me down! Today, I just had to run some quick errands, and wouldn’t be outside for very long, so I decided to wear jeans.
What I’m wearing:
James Perse Contrast Panel Knit Shirt
Gap essential jeans
Jeffrey Campbell sandals
Alexander Wang Donna Hobo

These are the first high-end jeans I’ve purchased in almost two years…I thought it was time for a denim update. About a month ago, I did buy some gap jeans; the Long & Lean and Bootcut styles. I like them, but there’s always something ‘off’ with Gap jeans, so they’re never my go-to jeans of choice. I still wear my Goldsign Desire jeans the most, they are my favorites, and I think they flatter my butt more than any other pair I own. But I knew I needed to update my selection of pants/jeans, so I decided to give these a try.
I am in a size 32. If you are not as hippy as me, you could probably size down a size in these, they do tend to run slightly big. But I like that, you see, because that means they’ll actually fit me! They are technically mid-rise, but because of my hips, they are low-rise on me…not a problem though, because I wear longer tops/sweaters anyway. Also, they are 100% cotton, so they do stretch a bit with wear, but not so much to affect the look/fit. The side seam is a little ‘twisted’ which gives them a unique look, and the leg is ultra-wide, as well as flared. The denim is lightweight, but not ultra-thin, so it will be just as comfortable in Winter as it will in Spring.
Mine are black – I chose these instead of a dark denim because I already have dark denim; I don’t have any black pants. And I just thought they were so chic and flattering in black. Here they are at Active Endeavors (use code ‘better’ and save 25% for a limited time, and then ‘grechen’ for 20% off), and Shopbop.
