Outfit: Corduroy Blazer

by grechen on October 27, 2011 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

WEARING:
James Perse skirt
James Perse tee
Vintage/Thrifted Cord jacket
Swedish Hasbeens clogs
Jerome Dreyfuss Billy Bag
Lizzie Fortunato necklace

Thanks to Sharon, I am now the proud owner of a camel corduroy blazer! This one is much better on me than the J Crew version, first, because it’s not as “thick” or heavy, and second, because it fits. I also think the color works better with my skin tone than the darker camel. The sleeves are a tiny bit short when I’m wearing a long sleeve tee underneath, but that doesn’t bother me.

Sydney also found me the white tuxedo-type blazer I’ve been searching for! If it’s cool enough again tomorrow, I’ll wear that one ;) It pays to have friends who are amazing thrifters. Especially since I’m not!

I would love to wear this dress with tights…whenever it gets cool enough. At $165, it’s not a bad price for a dress this versatile.

Outfit: Happy Weekend!

by grechen on October 7, 2011 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

wearing: James Perse skirt | Vintage wrangler denim top | Dannijo necklace | Jerome Dreyfuss Billy Bag (similar in mustard) | No6 Clogs

I am SOOOO ready for the weekend; but it’s going to be a busy one!! Sharon, Sydney and I are tagging the last of the items for our October 22nd pop-up shop, and Elissa’s coming in to go to the Vintage Glamporium, organized by my friend Masha who owns the hottest vintage boutique in Austin, Feathers. I will need to recover all day on Sunday ;)

Maybe it will start to cool off (for real) here soon, because I’m super bored with outfits lately. I just want to layer. I want to wear sweaters. I know…whine, whine, whine, poor me because it’s not COLD…the problem is I just don’t know what to wear. My brain is telling me I should be wearing cardigans, but my body screams NO when I walk outside. I want to transition to Fall pieces. Is that so wrong??

I hope you have a great weekend…what are YOU doing??

Outfit: James Perse Lasts Forever

by grechen on September 28, 2011 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

wearing: James Perse fleece skirt | James Perse slub button-down | Madewell necklace | Swedish Hasbeens clogs | Jas M.B. bag

Speaking of Swedish Hasbeens…I decided to take these out for a wear today; it’s been a while. Did anyone snag a pair on sale yet? With the endless code? There’s still a size 6 & 7 in red on sale at Endless + 20% off :)

And I know I talk about this all the time, but I hope you can see that I also practice what I preach, at least in terms of trying to focus on buying pieces that will last forever. Sometimes I don’t, I’ll admit – I buy something I love, or think I love, but after a while, I don’t love it anymore (that mostly happens when I get sucked in by the color, or “amazing” price).

The only brand that NEVER happens with is James Perse. I DO NOT GET RID OF JAMES PERSE, unless it just absolutely doesn’t fit me anymore. I don’t ever HAVE to get rid of James Perse pieces, because they last for years. And years. And I usually love them for years, and years.

Take this skirt, for example. It’s at least 4 years old, maybe more, so is the top. And they’re both as good as new. They’ve been through the wash countless times, worn many more times, and still don’t show their wear. Two out of the 10 JP t-shirts I own have developed very small holes in them, which I’m not happy about, but they’re not new either.

I feel the same way about Inhabit NY and Jas M.B. handbags; these are my “holy grail” brands. Even if I did have to pay full price for these designers (but I don’t. You don’t either), it would be 100% worth it. My cost-per-wear for a lot of my pieces from James Perse, Inhabit & Jas M.B. is fast approaching $1.00 or less. Ideally, I’d like for EVERYTHING in my closet to get to a cost-per-wear of as close to $0.01 as possible. That means, I need to have less, and wear what I do have more often. Which is easy with those brands, because none of the pieces ever look dated; they’re always timeless.

What brands are your “holy grail” brands? What are some of your favorite, most-loved pieces? Do tell!

Oh, and if you haven’t seen yet, check out the new Refinery29 Reserve deal for Tee-Zone, it’s spend $50, get $100 credit or spend $100 and get $200 credit. Tee-Zone has JAMES PERSE!!!! But even since yesterday, I’ve noticed some of the colors/sizes are selling out. And yes, I did get this deal. More on that in another post.

Yes, Please.

Although, honestly, I could do without the shoes James Perse has paired it with. Can someone explain? Otherwise, this dress is perfect. And even though I’m trying not to acquire so much new jersey cotton anymore, this dress is a must-have for me. When it cools down, of course.

Outfit: Haircut

May 10, 2011
Thumbnail image for Outfit: Haircut

I had a love/hate relationship with my long hair. Most of the time I loved how it looked, but I HATED washing it. HATED it. I only washed it once every 3-4 days anyway, but I literally dreaded my wash days like the plague. So, I decided (while washing my hair) that it was time [...]
