I love Austin

by grechen on May 7, 2010 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

I love Austin. Really, really love it. I have met the MOST wonderful people and am constantly amazed at how truly “interested” everyone is. I wanted to say “nice,” but that’s sort of cliche; people here are nice, but they are also genuinely interested and engaged. I love the sense of entrepreneurship, ownership and creativity here – it’s almost like a feeling that anyone can do anything….

So, I loved my new stylist so much that I went back!! LOL, when I got my haircut last, we decided to do “long” bangs, and I really loved how they looked the first couple of days, but after that, I didn’t quite know what to do with them. And I REALLY don’t like to spend a lot of time styling my hair. So, yesterday I went back to Carissa at Milk and Honey and got bangs (which I’ve had before, you know) and am so happy they’re back! I think the bangs give my face better definition, and create an actual hairstyle.

While I was out on 2nd street, I stopped in to Eliza Page because I had purchased a groupon (ADDICTED!!!) recently, which allowed me to get the AMAZING necklace I’m wearing by a local designer, and Austin Shines winner, Ax + Apple – Jamie Dorfman (more of her stuff on etsy), for nearly 50% off!!! I was so tempted by so many things in the store, but the moment I put this on my neck, I knew it was meant to be. I love the draping, and I think she makes everything with vintage chains and pieces. Anyway, I’m so proud to have been able to purchase one of these pieces, and look forward to continuing to support local design at Eliza Page (so sorry for those of you who don’t live in Austin…the store is amazing, but they do have a nice selection online as well).

My obsession with Kate Miss’s jewelry still goes strong, even though I’ve only been able to purchase one necklace so far. I don’t talk about it much (although I wore my necklace in the latest outfit post), it’s just something I wear constantly. And I always get comments when I do (I love that :) )

If you’re interested in your own wonderful piece of handmade jewelry, check out the For Me, For You shop update happening again TONIGHT (1/25) at 8PM eastern. If it’s anything like when I bought my necklace, you’ll need to be super-speedy to get what you want, they sell out FAST. Take a look at some designs that are going to be on sale tonight in the shop:

Meadowlark Serpent Earrings <- NEED

by grechen on November 19, 2009 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

I. Love. These. Earrings. I only just discovered Meadowlark last night (thanks to an e-mail from Claire, one of the designer duo from New Zealand) and I’m already obsessed. As you know, I’m a huge fan of simplicity, with a twist; I always love something unexpected – like wearing a pair of serpent studs – with an otherwise “basic” outfit, or a super-conservative black suit.

Check out some of their other pieces, this deco ring is another favorite:

etsy Find: Embroidered Geometric Necklaces

October 28, 2009

I keep seeing this etsy seller and her necklaces featured on various blogs (the latest) and I can now safely say I’m obsessed. I’m also a bit jealous, because I’ve been meaning to take up embroidery for quite some time now, but haven’t found the time, nor have I picked up all the supplies I’ll [...]

Etsy Find: ChainChained

October 1, 2009

Thank goodness for history…I clicked through to this necklace from a blog I have in my reader (and now I don’t remember which one..sorry!) and closed it without bookmarking it last night! But I was so obsessed with it, I was determined to find it again, and spent time looking back through the hundreds of [...]

Etsy Find: KUSS Contemporary Jewelry

October 22, 2008

I’m about to faint from the cuteness of Etsy seller KUSS. Her nature-inspired jewelry is right up my alley, and even better – it’s affordable and handmade! Since I first visited her shop, a lot of things have disappeared, but my favorites are still there…

Jessica Elliot Jewelry

July 16, 2008

I first featured Jessica Elliot’s jewelry years ago when she and I both started our respective businesses. Jessica is the queen of “edgy femininity” and rocker-chic style jewelry, but I love her sweet “Use your Words” bracelets and necklaces more. Available in sterling silver and gold vermeil at Max & Chloe, these are affordable & [...]

Persimmon Handpicked Objects

February 28, 2008

I have been obsessed with Melissa Joy Manning for years. I would drool over the earrings at Barney’s Co-op and search for them to buy online. Now, her designs are much more readily available to purchase online, but my new favorite place to buy is Persimmon Handpicked Objects. I purchased these two pieces last week: [...]

Wendy Culpepper Jewelry

February 11, 2008

I’ve been a fan of Wendy Culpepper’s designs for quite some time; she designs for strong women using simple, classic, yet bold elements. All of her pieces are infinitely wearable, and many have been featured in publications such as InStyle, Lucky, and on Rachel Ray. My favorite piece is in the Paradise Collection, the Zuri [...]

Review: Dejarnette Glass Bubbles Necklace

August 25, 2006

I’ve worn this necklace from Dejarnette New Orleans about a handfull of times since I got it, and every single time I wear it, someone wants to touch it; they don’t believe it’s glass. It gets a lot of attention, to say the least, and deservedly so; you won’t see anything like it anywhere else. [...]
