Gift Guide: Getting Personal

I mentioned a few times before how much I love jewelry, or really anything, with my initials or name on it; I really love my name :-) But I’ve never really had anything WITH my initials or name on it until now – I recently ordered a Helen Ficalora initial pendant from Shopbop, and I’ve also just received this fabulous canvas/leather bag by BLVD from Delcina.

BLVD Canvas tote monogramed

I’ve had this bag for a few weeks, and have already put it through so much!! I took it to Florida with me as my work bag, I use it as a tote to carry extra clothes I’m “donating” to my sister over to her, when I walk down the street to Panera for a “working” break, I use it to take my laptop and wallet…it’s truly good for any situation.

It was much bigger in person than I expected it to be, but that’s turned out to be quite the godsend. And I love that it has a zipper closure at the top (unlike other totes) so it can actually be relatively secure. It has a small, zippered pocket inside, but the leather pouch on the outside has proven to be more useful; it holds my phone and keys perfectly, so they’re within easy reach. The straps are definitely long enough to go over a winter coat, and they’re not too long that it’s still comfortable to carry it on your arm, or by hand.

The luxe detailing is awesome – it makes this more than just another tote. And of course, the monogram on the front pocket is the crowning touch! Sadly though, the GC that’s there now won’t be relevant once I am married (again lol), but that’s okay, it will ALWAYS stand for Grechen’s Closet or Grechen’s Codes!!!

Something I do wish it had is a reinforced bottom so it didn’t sag so much. I could probably put a piece of cardboard there as a DIY solution, but right now, I’m too lazy…

Overall, I’m incredibly pleased with this BLVD Canvas/Leather tote; it’s a great size for anything I need it to do, the straps are heavy duty and the canvas will hold nearly any weight I can carry, and it’s CUTE!! It would make a great gift in my opinion – who doesn’t love something personalized? At $145, it’s priced reasonably for a special gift for your mom, or your best friend, and now, at Delcina, you can get free monogramming with code “grechengift.”

Happy Shopping!!

I don’t know anyone who can’t use a cute umbrella – I try to always carry one with me (that doesn’t usually work), so I love to have small, folding ones around that have their own pouch. And yes, of course you can go to target and pick one up for $10, but c’mon, for a gift anyway, make it special – like this super-cute folding umbrella by Parisian graphic designer Robert Le Heros:

Gift Guide Under $50: Hovey Lee Jewelry

by grechen on November 17, 2008 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

This is such an awesome idea for the jewelry lover on your list – from Hovey Lee: choose a “grab bag” of either 3, 5, 8 or 12 discontinued jewelry, samples, and clearance items. Each bag is packed with uniquely different pieces, and at least one item in the bag equals the value of the bag, and the other pieces are lower priced. For example, a $29 bag will have one $29 item and at least 4 other items valued around $10-$15, so you can purchase a $29.00 bag and have as much as $80.00 worth of jewelry.

What a fun idea!! Here’s a sampling of what COULD be (but is not necessarily) in the grab bags. But hurry and order before they sell out.

I’ve taken a break from raving about Virginia Johnson’s scarves and prints long enough…it’s time for some love again!!! Seriously, since it’s been under 50 degrees here, I wear my pebble print Virginia Johnson Shawl constantly; if my neck is warm, I am warm (and happy). Yes, they’re a splurge, but totally worth it, for either your mom who would NEVER buy something like this for herself, or your best friend – who’s always there for you…

The elephant print is my new favorite, but I do love my classic “pebble” print, and of course…the owls!!!
