eco-chic

You know how much I love my Recycled/Recylable Plastic Melissa Sin Sandals. I wear them constantly; I love the way they look as much as I love how comfortable they are. (I haven’t worn a pair of regular flip-flops since I got them.) Anyway, as much as I love them, I’m not sure I’m ready to “graduate” to plastic HEELS – or wedges, as it were. I do love the general look of the Melissa Recycled Plastic Wedges , although it’s more difficult to accept plastic “shoes” than plastic sandals I think…at least for me.

What do you think? Has anyone else tried Melissa Sandals? Leave a comment below!!!!

Eco-Chic: Eairth at Oak

by grechen on July 15, 2008 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

I love tube dresses; I do not wear them alone (I really dislike my upper arm area), but I love the straight & low neckline under a cardigan. Or even layered underneath a deep V-neck tee…

This is a really interesting tube dress, by Eairth, a new Eco-Friendly brand available at Oak NYC that uses 100% organic cotton and produces some pretty edgy fashion. My favorite piece is this tube dress, but these shorts are kind of cool. I would stay FAR AWAY from these pants though (oh no, they’re sold out?)!!

Eco-Chic: Green Bird

by grechen on July 15, 2008 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

Oh-so-lovely online boutique, Bird, has recently added some green fashion to it’s already fabulous line-up of 3.1 Philip Lim, Tsumori Chisato, and Alexander Wang. This nautical/Parisian top by Green Bird is MY FAVORITE – I just love the bright color (also available in blue) and the fitted style:

Also, check out new “green” arrivals from pi organic and Mociun.

I don’t post enough about home decor or home accessories – I love shopping for home decor, I just don’t buy much of it (I guess it’s harder for me to spend money on things for my home as opposed to things for my body!). Anyway, I came across this post at design*sponge about Selina Rose’s new collection of eco-friendly watercut felt rugs/etc. and had to share!!

Selina Rose uses cutting-edge technology to create intricately cut and printed interior textiles. Working predominantly with industrial felt, she combines delicate surface decoration with innovative cutting technologies to create unique interior products. Final products include rugs, cushions, window panels, room dividers, lighting, bespoke fabrics and wallpaper.

I love all of them – so delicate, yet practical…

International Eco-Chic: Organic Stereo

June 23, 2008

My favorite part of this “job,” is finding out about new designers/boutiques and doing my small part to help them grow. Over the years since I launched Grechen’s Closet, I’ve exposed hundreds of new designers to the “world” and I like to feel like I’ve had some hand in their success. Hey, every little bit [...]

International Eco-Chic: Muso Koroni Vegan Boutique

June 23, 2008

I must admit, I had no idea there weren’t any 100% vegan boutiques in Austria until Jasmin e-mailed me to tell me that she’d launched the first (I love entrepreneurship!!). Her boutique, Muso Koroni, is Austria’s first 100% vegan boutique (even the models are vegans!!) and carries brands like Perfectly Imperfect, Matt & Natt, and [...]

Eco-Chic: Sweetskins Denim Skirt

June 15, 2008

Oh!! I love this denim maxi skirt by Sweetskins. It’s totally earth friendly; made from luxurious indigo hemp-cotton denim, and produced by a company that is ethically run. Sweetskins is run by designer/mom of three, Mira Fannin, who is devoted to using the “latest & greatest” in ecologically sound materials (I see she is partial [...]

Eco-Chic: Juana Handbags

May 26, 2008

Following my mission to be more environmentally thoughtful, I am also making an effort to get my money to serve a dual purpose. For example…I bought my mom and sister each the Feed 100 bag for Mother’s Day. I purchased the bags at my local Whole Foods for $30, and each bag purchased provides 100 [...]

Eco-Chic: Cardigans

May 26, 2008

I’m just as much a sucker for cardigans as I am for dresses when the weather warms up. I CANNOT go without a cardigan or something long-sleeved during warmer weather because I FREEZE anytime I’m in air conditioning. Pardon my “yelling,” but it is so frustrating. So, my solution is to look for sleeveless dresses [...]

Eco-Chic: Elezar Vegan Handbags

May 25, 2008

So, I’ve not had much luck with vegan handbags…admittedly, I’ve not seen many in real-life, other than Stella McCartney and random non-leather bags at Target, but generally, they leave something to be desired: I cannot FATHOM spending $1000+ on any of Stella’s bags, and I don’t like the “stiffness” of Target bags. When I say [...]

Eco-Chic: FIN at Equita

April 6, 2008

You can’t throw a stone (or click a link) these days without hitting a new environmentally friendly, organic cotton, bamboo, ethical, etc., clothing line. Many “mainstream” lines and stores are coming out with organic counterparts (like Banana Republic), and all-new designers are popping up here and there, Like Rashida Jone’s (from The Office) Laloo line. [...]

Eco-Chic: Mon Petit Oiseau Tank

April 3, 2008

Coco’s Shoppe has just added some new 100% organic cotton pieces from Mon petit oiseau, and they’re lovely! This tank is super-cute, especially tucked into a high-waisted skirt or pants (check the site for pictures), and it’s only $46 before the 25% off code “GCLOSET.”

Eco-Chic: Laloo at Steven Alan

March 20, 2008

In case you were looking for another organic cotton, sustainable fashion clothing line, here’s the latest: Laloo. Okay, so I’m not THAT excited about this one, but we all need basics, and these are good starting pieces if you’re trying to build an organic cotton/sustainable fashion wardrobe. Laloo was created by Rashida Jones (from the [...]

Eco-Chic: Indie Wedding Guide

March 3, 2008

I do not “get” weddings. I mean I “get” them, but I don’t “get” making them into huge elaborate productions costing thousands of dollars. And the whole “bridezilla” thing…don’t even get me started… That said, I do think the wedding is an opportunity to create a meaningful event – and it should reflect the bride [...]

Eco-Chic: Sublet Clothing

February 20, 2008

It seems like many designers, in an effort to be unique and innovative, only end up with really complicated designs. Not Sublet. The company started by two roommates, literally while subletting, focuses on sustainable fabrics, responsible business practices, and pretty clothes. Aside from the environmentally friendly aspect of their designs (bamboo and organic cotton), I [...]
