WEARING:
Bordeaux (Anthropologie) skirt
T Luxury cashmere sweater (several years old)
DV by Dolce Vita Jamison booties
Alexander Wang Donna bag (on sale in black at SSENSE)
VKOO Cashmere loop scarf (gifted)

I’m not going to lie, I sometimes regret selling my Alexander Wang Rocco bag. Mostly, I wish I had one of the newer ones with the shoulder strap; it’s so much easier to manage with the shoulder strap. And, I’ve discovered lately that I need a bag with both handles & a longer shoulder strap, otherwise, I just don’t use the bag as much.

Which is why 1. I am selling my J.W. Hulme Linwood bag, and 2. I really don’t regret selling my 1st gen. Rocco THAT much 3. I REALLY want the Alexander Wang Rocco with the clear rivets and 4. why I’m thinking of selling my Alexander Wang Donna bag. But only THINKING. I’m really attached to this bag even though I don’t use it very much anymore. She’s the one that started the Alexander Wang obsession…

What bags have you sold/given away that you sometimes regret getting rid of? Have you ever bought one back after selling it?

Outfit: My DIY

wearing: Old Navy blouse | Thrifted skirt | TIKKR Watch (gifted) | Prada sport sandals | Alexander Wang Donna Hobo

Don’t freak out and leave, it’s still me, the Grechen you know and love, only now, “thriftier” ;)

Remember how I went thrifting for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and got the cream blazer I wore in this post? While I was there, I also snagged this polka-dot skirt. It’s a DIY because it WAS reversible and there were two layers: black & white polka dots and a black & white floral print. I cut out the floral print layer right at the top near the waistband because A: it was ugly, and B: because I wanted to re-create my own version of this Opening Ceremony skirt:

It’s definitely the look I was going for although as I wore it today (walked a lot), I determined that I definitely need to wear a “normal” slip as opposed to a spanx slip, because it kept riding up! If I was an American Apparel model or more daring, I might just wear a pair of boyshorts underneath and call it a day, but I’m NOT that daring, and I’m going for a bit more “elegant” look than that…and as you can tell, the skirt is sheer.

I’m totally impressed with myself for my first EVER DIY – I know it’s not a big deal to those of you who are used to thrifting and working with things, but this is completely foreign to me! I hope to do more of it; I love feeling creative, and I’m pretty happy with the result.

What do you think of my DIY?

I talk a lot about the new Alexander Wang handbags, but I will never forget my first love, and the other iconic (besides the Rocco) AW bag, the Donna hobo:

The Donna hobo is an amazingly practical bag, that’s edgy and cool at the same time. I’ve had mine for several years, and still consider it one of my favorites. It’s lightweight (really!) and holds everything…$358 is a STEAL for this bag!!

I miraculously persuaded my fiance to go to San Antonio on Saturday and we ended up walking around The Alamo (it was really beautifully kept up, and very interesting to learn all of the history).

I’m wearing:
Velvet X Calypso slouchy top – honestly, I wasn’t sold on this top until I wore it…now I really love it. It’s slubbed cotton, and very slouchy up top, and somewhat fitted at the hips. It’s a longer length (which I love) and I’m starting to “get” navy!

Madewell jacket tied around my waist

Joe’s Jeans

Sandals I got at Calypso Thursday because my Jeffrey Campbell sandals I WAS WEARING fell completely apart. This is a sad story or poor quality if ever there was one. I’ve really never had shoes fall apart on me before. The shoes were only a couple of years old, not even worn 5 times yet. What I hate the most, is that they were sent to me to review, and I did review them after wearing them 2-3 times, they were relatively comfortable, and seemed to be made well as far as I could tell…I cannot explain how the soles just came completely unglued in one day…

Anyway, I really love these new sandals – they’re handmade in Kenya and after the 20% discount, were a great price.

May 8, 2009

This is obviously a variation on Wednesday’s outfit…but I loved it so much, and it works for me, so why not? What I’m wearing: James Perse twisted seam fleece skirt – this skirt is much more fitted than the gray skirt I wore Wednesday, it’s also thicker, really better for cooler weather. But it works [...]
