Thanks to Miss Sophie, Sharon & Sarge in Charge, I’ve become slightly obsessed with striped tops lately. I had a couple of A.P.C. striped tops that were wonderful, but I didn’t wear them, so to consignment they went…And since my wardrobe is literally black & white, I’ve always had a hard time fitting stripes in, because ultimately, I guess I’m a purist, and prefer a classic navy/white stripe.
Right now, I’d really love a St. James top – the heavier weight style – longer sleeves so I can roll them up, and with a slightly baggy fit, just to wear with jeans. But the more affordable LL Bean version is tempting – if not for the 3/4 sleeves. And of course, I want the Play Comme des Garcons top just because of the heart emblem.
Are you a fan of stripes? How do you wear them?
I am always, ALWAYS on the hunt for the perfect striped shirt! But I haven’t been able to find it yet….
this. ultimately, i think i like them better on others…i’m never really that excited about the ones i try on myself. but that doesn’t stop me from wanting one!
I have really been liking the striped tops lately. I recently purchased a coral and blue one from old navy.

oh, that sounds like a pretty combination!
I love striped shirts and have several from JCrew, Land’s End, Target, Garnet Hill and Anthropologie. I used to be a purist about only having navy and white or black and white but now I also have orange and white, gray and white, gray and black, cobalt blue and white, ivory and neon pink, and cobalt blue and magenta! I also have a few striped cardigans and am thinking about getting a rugby-stripe sweater from JCrew or Shopbop. I don’t like the St James ones because they seem too heavy and don’t suit a curvy figure, but one of my work colleagues has one and looks very cute in it (she is petite and boyish).
wow…holy stripes!! 🙂
i saw a pink/white one today at anthropologie that i really liked…and some striped turtlenecks. i may just have to ease in slowly…
I have the naval from Saint James, I love the heavy fabric and also the white on the top and bottom part. For me it’s the perfect stripped t shirt.

I tried the Le Minor at “Share With….” but it was a bit too tight and heavy for my liking. I love all things striped: Tees, cardis, in all colors shapes and forms. I am like Joanna, in that I used to be a purist and only wanted the French Navy shirt, but now I love them all. I kind of see stripes as my signature. Kind of like Iris Apfel and her crazy glasses.
I looove striped tops! In my closet at the moment, I have two from Gap (gray w/ thin navy striped boatneck tee; black 3/4 w/ royal blue stripe sweaterish knit), one from Anthropologie (I forget the brand but it’s white 3/4 with wavy black stripes and patch pockets at the waist) and J. Crew Deck-Stripe Boater Tee. 🙂 I just wear mine with jeans and ballet flats usually.
