1- Inhabit boiled wool cardigan | $206 after the code
2- BLK DNM hoodie | $108 after the code
3- Vince perforated leather sneakers | $146 after the code (size down 1/2 size)
4- T by Alexander Wang long sleeve tee | $67 after the code
Finally. I’ve been waiting for the Shopbop code for weeks, and now it’s here: use code FAMILY25 for 25% off your order. Lots of brands are excluded, like Alexander Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim, ACNE, and Rag & Bone (Rag & Bone? Really?), but that still leaves a lot, and this time I made it out without ONE PIECE OF JAMES PERSE. Whoa.
Just to refresh your memory on my budget situation, the only “money” I have to spend on clothing is the credit I get from Shopbop every month for displaying their widget on my site, which I’ve been saving patiently. I do have a small discretionary fund every month, but that’s reserved for other things like hair, Dagny, books, wine, etc., so I try not to ever spend any of that on clothing. And I don’t really need to. I also have about $500 I can spend at James Perse that I allocated after having a very good summer π
At this point, I’m really just replacing things I love that are okay, but are too big on me now, or don’t fit my needs. Since it actually cooled down a bit here I’ve had time to think hard about what I need for my lifestyle, and for cooler weather, so I settled on these four things at Shopbop:
1- Inhabit boiled wool cardigan | $206 after the code (since this popped up on Shopbop I’ve been stalking it – I love Inhabit, as you know, and decided I’m happy with my black cardigans, so was looking for a lighter in color, and not-cashmere cardigan. Found!)
2- BLK DNM hoodie | $108 after the code (this was a practical purchase mostly; I have a men’s Champion sweatshirt that I bought last year that I wear around the house, but now, I need something with pockets – for taking Dagny out – and with sleeves that are made for a woman! The Champion’s sleeves are SO LONG I can’t really do anything when I’m wearing it. I also love gray sweatshirts…)
3- Vince perforated leather sneakers | $146 after the code (Based on my track record with my black haircalf Blair sneakers by Vince, I have long wanted a non-haircalf version that I could wear in more inclement weather. I also wanted something not so …black…size down 1/2 size if this is your first pair of Vince shoes)
4- T by Alexander Wang long sleeve tee | $67 after the code (I have this shirt in a size large that I got several years ago and promptly shrunk by accidentally drying it. I kept it around because I absolutely LOVE how soft and drapey it is; great for layering. It was time to replace it…)
That’s it for me. Obviously I’ve tweaked my “fall shopping list” a bit since my fall shopping post a month ago, but I think it was too early to even THINK about what I wanted for cooler weather then, I just don’t ever fully realize what I need until the weather starts to really change. I’ve also had a chance to try some things that were on my list and either took them back, or decided I like what I have just fine.
Oh, and I might have also ordered the dark grey cashmere tunic and slouchy v-neck cashmere sweater in black from Everlane this morning (had some credit there too)…
[show_shopthepost_widget id=”323648″]
Did you need anything you were able to pick up at Shopbop? What are you getting? Will you order any Everlane cashmere?
Saks also started their F&F today: 25% off with code FRNFAM. Same brand exclusions there…
Do share!!
I bought one thing from the sale—a pair of boots–and of course they are nothing like the other pairs of boots that I’ve been stalking, and “thought” I wanted. Also, in the meantime, I tried on my black booties that I “thought” didn’t fit and I didn’t like, and lo and behold! I actually do! Along with a pair of black pants that I “thought” didn’t fit or look good either.
Anyway, there’s still a strong chance that these boots go back. Plus I ordered them in BURGUNDY, not black…crazy, I know! π

Yes, I was waiting for those sales too– Placed a huge order in Shopbop and little less from Saks. Ordered different sizes and items to see what will work better and return the rest.. I am sort of my own “personal shopper” :)I am looking for 2-3 items to add to my wardrobe now, after that I will “fast” π I do have self imposed allowance but broke it this month because the things I purchased will never be discounted except that on Friends and Family sale– I also spend more for Fall/Winter items and my “wish’ list for Summer/Spring is very small. So After October I will behave despite the numerous sales that will be going on–
Those Vince sneakers are great, I have them in olive color. I took my true size though–
oh, fast, during thanksgiving?? π you are brave!! but i never buy much during black friday/thanksgiving sales either, well except for the james perse sale, which i’m now saving up for…
every vince shoe i’ve ever tried on has been 1/2 size too big for me…and i think these are the same “blair” that i have in the haircalf. fingers crossed they fit!!
I went with the “order a whole bunch of stuff and hope that something works” strategy. Highlights were this Rebecca Minkoff dress (maybe for Thanksgiving?): https://www.shopbop.com/linda-dress-rebecca-minkoff/vp/v=1/1510274530.htm, and this Soft Joie sweater that looks like I could live in it all winter: https://www.shopbop.com/estee-sweater-soft-joie/vp/v=1/1549502826.htm.
I was super tempted by the Vince sneakers, but I just bought a pair of French Sole loafers the other day, so I really couldn’t justify another pair of casual flats.
oh, i like the burgundy jen…better than the black in that style, i think.
that happens to me all the time, but we know that about me, that i’m a very emotional dresser…so moods change and what i want to wear is different from one day to the next. oy. but i love to re-discover things in my closet, which is why i am trying to keep just a few things around that i love, but don’t wear much…or things i know i should keep
oh!! so good!! that dress is really pretty, and that sweater is so cool. i love a good cowl neck, but i’ve decided that i shouldn’t buy anymore because i need things that cover my chest/neck when it’s cold…
i saw your post with the loafers, love those!
Now I just have to hope that some things actually work…but not everything, otherwise I’m going to have some major decisions to make. NO WAY I can keep everything I ordered. Oh, the risks we take π
I am just grateful that Dieppo Restreppa doesn’t have FF sale– (Or do they sometimes?)
I would be in major trouble- got addicted to my new loafers, so comfy!
haha! haven’t seen one from their site, but they go on sale at la garconne and totokaelo – you’ll have to stalk them though, because sizes sell out.
oh, and steven alan usually has a F&F code, they have a few pairs.
thanks:) I will watch for it!
I want those sneakers!! But I find that this particular style doesn’t fit my 8.75 foot .. 8.5 too small / 9 too big.
Monica.
Thank you for the notice on the sale at Saks. I was able to get a linen Eileen Fisher shirt that was already on sale (and I had been interested in before seeing the code) and use the code. Even better, it let me use the FRNFAM code as well as the free shipping code! Maybe I need to go on a fast too – if anything, it is time to cull the closet soon!
I ordered those Oak maxi dresses in black and gray (assuming it fits and I like it, I will keep one) and then caved on a Vince sweater dress that was way over my budget but I am thinking it might be one of those LOVE pieces that I wear year after year. Or it might look terrible, in which case I can stop obsessing about it! We will see. π
It is this one: https://www.shopbop.com/abstract-jacquard-tunic-vince/vp/v=1/1588910022.htm
i love that vince sweater dress!! they confuse me though … and more often than not, they’re just way too long for me. i was looking at this one for a while: https://www.shopbop.com/neck-tunic-sweater-vince/vp/v=1/1517640571.htm – but i went for the everlane cashmere tunic instead. i think it will be long enough and better for my short legs….
fingers crossed for the oak dress! you might love them both π
what a great deal sandy!
“Confuse you” as in the fit is weird, or you don’t usually like the style?” I have a feeling this one will be super baggy up top and fitted through the hips but I had to try it. My favorite sweater from last year is a Vince pullover–I feel awesome every time I wear it–so I’m hoping this dress will produce a similar effect. It has to be $300 amazing though so that is a tall order, ha.
Definitely let us know how the Everlane sweaters work out! I haven’t had much luck with Everlane but I have only tried a handful of items.
Haha! I love it…a “highlights reel” of purchases. Maybe I can utilize that technique in the future! π
Love it! Everything VINCE works for me.
What a chic and cozy haul Grechen! Looking forward to seeing your new outfits!
I purchased the Vince chevron cardigan you had mentioned in your original fall wish list from Saks (they don’t charge sales tax to my state, which is why I order from there when I can), however I purchased it in soft grey. I was able to try the cardigan on in black, but I have no idea what the grey will look like in person, but I’m excited to try it.

I am also really interested in the rag & bone Charlize cardigan, but it’s sold out at ShopBop (and ineligible anyway, as you mentioned!). Too bad Nordstrom doesn’t have a F&F sale!

I also purchased a black cashmere cardigan from the Bloomingdale’s label during their F&F sale – again sight unseen, but I’m hoping it will work (i.e. be slouchy enough). I especially think it was a good value as it was $168, but if I don’t love it, back it will go!

As far as Everlane goes, I almost pulled the trigger on the charcoal tunic as well, but I want to see how my other cashmere items fit. I was really hoping to get the v-neck tunic, and was surprised that they’ve gone with a crew neck style instead. I can’t wait to see your review, though!
good buys!!!
i’ve seen that vince cardigan in the lighter color, it’s more oatmeal-y than gray, sort of close to ivory, very pretty. it looks different on shopbop, but i think it’s closer in real life to the saks images.
also love the rag & bone cardigan, and thought about getting it, but 1. it sold out and 2. rag & bone was excluded. which i still think is weird.
LOVE that bloomie’s cardigan! it’s very closet to the vince one, please let me know how you like it. i’ve seen some of the NM private label stuff at last call that i like, quite a lot actually, and it’s really very affordable, so i never knock private labels until i try them!
i was disappointed the tunic wasn’t v-neck either, but i wanted to try it anyway – i’ve really wanted a cashmere tunic for a while, and since they have such a great return policy, i’ll send it back if i don’t love it. i don’t mind a crew neck on me sometimes, but i have to be in the mood…or whatever..i definitely prefer v-neck or scoop necks on me.
Hi Grechen,
Thanks for the info. re the colour of the Vince sweater – it sounds like I was hoping for!
I will definitely update you when I get the bloomindale’s cardigan. My fingers are crossed because it has all the same details of the one I am trying to replace, but we will see!
I do love Everlane crewnecks – I have a couple of the seed stitch in the regular cotton and fall merino – and they both get lots of wear. I think the crewneck tunic has lots of potential, and I look forward to seeing it on you! I’m also really looking forward to their chunky wool – apparently there’s going to be a cardigan in collection too!
yes!! i can’t wait to see the cardigan, but i already know i want a pullover, i love the one they have the model wearing in the new crossbody petra pictures on the home page. and i did JUST get a wool cardigan with the shopbop code…
Hi Grechen, would you still recommending sizing down in the Vince sneaks for someone who has wide-ish feet? Many thanks!
i would – from what i’ve read, all the reviews are pretty consistent that they run 1/2 size big. even sizing down, i feel like my blair haircalf sneakers have room in them for a wider foot….maybe also check nordstrom and see if there are any reviews for the particular shoe you’re looking it?
I received my bloomie’s cardigan a few weeks ago, and I really love the fit. It’s a bit more of a “dressier” fit than I usually wear though, as it’s slimmer (tts) through the arms/shoulders (though I’m a bit bigger in this area), but then it’s very nice and loose through the body – not too long, and the ribbing at the cuffs and shawl are nice and thick.
As for the cashmere itself, it makes me a bit nervous. It feels unsubstantial, like the weave feels a bit light and kind of loose, even though the fibres look smooth, if that makes sense. Then I read a thread on a forum talking about how terrible Macy’s cashmere is, and I started to panic because bloomie’s is the same company. So, in spite of liking the shape a LOT, I wasn’t in love with the fabric, and scared it would pill or fall apart. I don’t want to worry about throwing a sweater out because it doesn’t wear well, so I’m shipping it back.
I LOVE the Vince cardigan, though. The soft grey is a beautiful heathered oatmeal, as you described. The colour and texture work really well together – almost a modern take on the classic fisherman cabled sweater. I’m really really pleased! I’m also tempted to get it in black as well, because I’m returning the bloomie’s cardigan – and the Vince one is on sale at Saks for $237 – but then I’m having the whole dilemma that you discussed in your “buying multiples” post!
