So I pretty much knew the Shopbop Friends & Family coupon code was coming, without having any official knowledge (just figured it out, given their history), so I woke up this morning anticipating it, ready to fill my cart with things in my “hearts” section. Which I did, of course, but given that I have a firm budget this time, I kept filling it with things then removing them, to the point where I wasted precious up-time and got stuck in the endless mire that was Shopbop NOT LOADING FOR HOURS this morning. And still not loading. Well, actually, it’s loading, but with a big fat “our apologies” page instead of my shopping cart.
So, instead of showing you what I bought, I will tell you to go to Saks and shop THEIR friends & family event. Or shop Hampden Clothing at 20% off with my exclusive GRECHEN20 code. Those sites aren’t down. I will always love Shopbop, but they are owned by Amazon. AMAZON. Shouldn’t they have made sure to have enough servers to handle the load?? Amazon IS THE ONE WITH ALL THE SERVERS. I’m disappointed. Especially since I have no idea if that James Perse tunic in size 3 will still be in my cart when the site’s back up π (it kept saying there was only 1 left). And I can’t shop it at Saks because I have credit at Shopbop that I need to use; my budget for clothing is TIGHT at the moment!
I will tell you that my cart was filled with James Perse, a pair of Goldsign jeans and the Current/Elliot infantry jacket…but I still have to narrow it down more. UGH. Have you been able to check out from Shopbop? What’s in your cart???
**it appears the site is back up. for now. GO to Shopbop NOW!!!! π So here’s what’s in my cart, but like I said, I need to narrow it down…any suggestions what NOT to buy?? (my budget is $400, give or take a few $$)

So, you decided to go with the Current / Elliott military jacket instead of the Rag & Bone Chamberlain? Honestly, I tried on both and they’re both great…not that I’ve bought either, as I decided I don’t really want / need one. Of course I’ll probably change my mind when the sale is over and / or they are all sold out.
yes – i tried it on and just fell in love. but i’m in a long jacket/long sweater/long shirt phase right now…anyway, size 2 just sold out, so i won’t get getting it!! i guess i’m still thinking about the chamberlain jacket, but it doesn’t call to me like the CE one did.
i’ll probably not end up getting the jeans either – i just don’t want to spend that much when i’m still in a transitional stage of my weight loss, or so i say…and the wash is too similar to other jeans i have. cut is different, but still…
I feel like a dope for even commenting, but as much as I’ve “shopped over” the shopbop site, the current/elliott, saks and hampen sites, I really have NO budget for clothing right now. I want, I want, I want….but I’m kind of sick of myself for wanting so much lately. Especially when I have things in my closet that I don’t even wear (or things that I almost duplicate because I forget that I have them). Sorry, don’t mean to be “Debbie Downer” today. π
Go with the Current/Elliot jacket and the Goldsign Chamberlain. The discount will impact those the biggest, especially when combined with a store credit!
I’m with you on the pants thing, in terms of not buying them at the moment…partially inspired by how well your weight loss has gone, I saw a nutritionist my doctor recommended, and have completely re-vamped my eating (more protein, more vegetables, no sugar, no white flour, no carbs after lunch) the last few months. The good news is I’m dropping weight and feeling better, but the bad news is that most of my pants either don’t fit at all or are close to being unwearable because they don’t fit. I guess that’s a good problem to have, though.
MV, I can relate to what you wrote. I have an endless appetite for finery, but my budget won’t stretch to accommodate it. I hate when that happens. That being said, I’ll still check out Grechen’s recommendations:).
Grechen, due to your encouragement, I bought my first pair of leggings. I found them on eBay yesterday. Actually, they’re Splendid cropped harem pants, but they’re the closest I’ve come to leggings. They were under the leggings category, too. If I’m brave and they look okay, I might even send you a pic;).
i totally get it. i don’t have a budget either beyond what credit i have at shopbop already (they give me a certain amt every month for displaying their widget), which makes it harder to spend i think. for some strange reason…
and i do want, want, want also, which frustrates me, given that i have so much…so it puts that much more pressure on me to get things i really really love, and will be able to fill some need.
the jacket sold out in my size π
figures.
oh! yes…i hope you will send me a picture.
would love to see them. they sound very interesting π
it is a good problem, congratulations! although very frustrating. all of my jeans/pants got way too big on me, which again, is good, but also bad because i hate to replace things that are still perfectly good. thank goodness for a great designer consignment shop π
i have purchased a couple of pairs of jeans that fit recently, though, so i’m in good shape. i just want that ONE PERFECT pair, you know? but i won’t have that until i’m at my goal weight. which might be awhile since i just ate three pumpkin macarons from trader joe’s!!!!! trader joe’s IS EVIL.
I never thought I’d be happy that we don’t have a Trader Joe’s. Yet…
And I think that’s what I keep putting off: cleaning out my closet, taking things that I don’t wear or need to consignment, and then figuring out what “holes” to fill. And I’ve got to STOP buying things I don’t really need, just because they’re on-sale, or cheaper, or similar to what I might be looking for. I should treat myself to THE perfect one of the thing I’m looking for. Not a cheap imitation! Great point, Grechen!
