3 Agnes Badoo Sac 2 (handcrafted in California) | $550
4 MSGM sweatshirt dress
5 Reformation Brassiere top (sustainable, Made in the US) | $48
Just a few things that have caught my eye recently. And as usual, when spring comes around, I think about lightening up a little bit and trying to avoid so much black. In practice, I never do, because black lasts longer in my wardrobe, but it’s fun to think about!
1 No6 stacked heel loafers – I’ve had these open in a tab on my browser for weeks. Not to purchase, just to look at and admire every once in a while. I’m drawn to the blue suede, and the style of the shoe, but I’d never wear them in my real-life. If I worked in an office, or had to make an appearance around people more frequently than I do, I’d get these in a second – they’re a wonderful update for spring, and look moderately walkable…
2 Everlane “modern slipper” – coming soon – I love my Emerson Fry slides, but sometimes wish they covered a bit more of my foot. These look wonderful; I’ll try them, and see if they work. I also love the oversized silk top that’s coming on February 25th – I’ll be trying that too.
3 Agnes Badoo sac – This is another thing I’ve been obsessed with for months, and will hopefully be able to purchase at some point (in black though!) after saving up for it. I love the shape, and the outside pocket. It is structured, but not too much so, and I am sure it will loosen up a bit with wear. I like this natural color too, especially after wear/use.
4 MSGM sweatshirt dress – this is another thing I love (in pink!!), but won’t order. It’s just fun to look at!
5 Reformation Brassiere top – I would wear this as a bra, underneath sheer tops, or any top, or to Pure Barre, instead of as a top top, but I wouldn’t begrudge anyone else for wearing it as a top…As with all reformation pieces, it’s sustainable, and made in the US.
What’s catching your eye lately? Are you drawn to lighter colors for spring?
Oh, those shoes .. those shoes !!! So beautiful ! The color, the style .. (not the price .. lol), but hey, beautiful things are usually pricey 🙂
Monica.
It feels like spring here, though we are supposed to get some more El Nino rain this week, so I’m expecting some more chilly damp weather. I am starting to job hunt, and am getting my headshot upgraded next week, and actually purchased a coral-colored sweater for the shoot–my all-black wardrobe probably won’t photograph well. 😉
I LOVE that Agnes Baddoo bag…I’ve been searching for a work bag that isn’t $2000. Tempted by the natural color, but I know that I would end up using the black one more.
like i said, i’ve had that agnes badoo bag in my sights for a long time – i also like the black/hair calf version. and the smaller crossbody. but the sac has my heart (although i’m not sure what size i would ultimately prefer). i’ve been thinking about it WAAAAY too much!! you couldn’t go wrong with that as a work bag. and to defend the natural (because i’m still tempted by it), i think it will darken up and wear a lot nicer and more interesting than the black…
oh, yay for coral! such a pretty color. and i agree on wearing color for a head shot, now if i could only bring myself to do so…
ha, yes, well…
the shoe is perfection – color/style goes so well together.
My favorite work bag is a natural tone leather tote I bought in 1992. By now, I probably wouldn’t bring it on a job interview or to a conference, but it’s a great daily bag – I do love the patina. And the flat out stains (I can only kid myself so much – that large blue fountain pen spill goes beyond patina – but at least it’s on the bottom). I don’t use it every day – I switch my work totes every month or so to spread out the love – but as you can see, I’ll use them for a LONG time. But you do have to be realistic about what is acceptable – to you personally and in your profession and/or office about “neat and orderly” bags if you buy a light color. You can stain protect and clean for a while, but eventually that goes out the window too. Or is that just me? 😉
As for “spring” – yes, I’m planning my garden (I need to start seeds as soon as I’m back from a conference next week). Clothing – I don’t have any big purchases on my mind at the moment. Going from 20 to 60 is hard enough (welcome to the South…Or the current climate instability…)
Good luck, Jen! I just found a job this week and I’m beyond thrilled!!!
I, too, am infatuated with the Agnes Badoo bag in the natural color. It’s gorgeous, but I worry about stains. I know they’re gonna happen, but I like to keep things new looking as long as possible (Maybe that’s why I don’t wear some of my new purchases! DUH, Val!!!)
I’m looking for a short-sleeved Wilt tee dress in black (of course), a denim shirt dress…maybe, and a new pair of black wider-leg trouser pants. And not spring related, but I kept walking by the Henry Lehr store in East Hampton, which I do quite often just for styling ideas from their tomboy chic windows, and I notice they had rugged looking suede chukka boots paired with white jeans and cashmere sweaters. So, I went on the hunt and found these: https://www.oliberte.com/shoes/adibo/dark-grey-nubuck/
And they’re fair trade plus an extra 35% off!!! I have big enough feet that o can wear the men’s sizes and they’re unisex. You’d love that shop, Grechen!
I love that bag too:). Also Val’s idea of chukka boots. But I do remember last year, and I do remember that what I really needed was another maxi dress for the super hot days…
And, no more bags for me for a long time!
Not planning many purchases this spring but I do tend to gravitate to lighter colors when the weather starts to warm. I love cream, ivory, ballet pink, light taupe. Soon enough though I’m back in black (and gray). Keeping that in mind helps me resist buying pricey things that I know I won’t wear.
I’m still looking for slouchy pants that will fit me (black of course) and I’ll probably pick up another simple dress or two to throw on during the hottest days. New sandals, maybe. But that’s about it. I’m interested to see what Elizabeth Suzann comes out with on 2/23 for the signature collection “relaunch.” I’ve had my eye on the artist dress and I think it will be offered in a new fabric.
I too love those shoes you picked out, Grechen. I’d never be able to keep them from getting dirty though, stomping through NYC, so that’ll be my deterrent. Not sure about that bra top though. Maybe it’s the color, but it really just looks like underwear to me, like something I’d want to cover up.
i love the bra top, but as a bra, not a top. and in black 😉 i’d wear it under semi-sheer tops or dresses with big armholes..
agree on the shoes, they would definitely not be practical for much other than minimal walking. they’re so pretty though!!
not after that new celine!! it’s so beautiful, i wish i could get more comfortable with a bag that size, and in color LOL
yay!!! congratulations!
and good luck jen 🙂
oh, good point about that natural color not being very work-appropriate after a while. hadn’t thought about that, but you’re right – there’s a limit to how much treating and protecting you can do on a light-colored bag, especially one you use daily.
oh, are you getting those boots? i like them! i love the idea of them with white jeans.
i’m familiar with the brand, i think i featured a pair of their shoes once…
you’re right about the natural color of the bag – i didn’t think about staining, but that’s a big thing for me, dark denim would be hell on that bag!! i like to keep things nice looking also, and yes, that is DEFINITELY a reason i don’t wear some of my “favorite” things as often as I’d like to. it’s a sickness 😉
Thanks! So that’s why the name sounded familiar…I’m sure you featured Oliberte. And I hadn’t even thought about the possibilities of the “dark denim disaster”!
“A sickness”…haha!
