Everlane street shoe | sent by Everlane to review
So, here’s the second installment in my week of more-sustainable-white-t-shirts (first was the Tencel lazy tee, also by Groceries). And just FYI, I’m wearing the same jeans/shoes so you can see how the different t-shirts fit given the same “background.”
I LOVE this tee. As with the other Groceries “white” tee, this is not white white, but more of an off-white. It’s still basically white, but if you like WHITE white, then this may not be the right tee for you. I generally prefer WHITE white, but I’ll take this since it’s organic cotton/low-impact dyed. The tee is definitely more fitted, but not too. The v-neck and sleeve lengths are perfect; it’s so comfortable and ridiculously soft.
Honestly, I don’t wear fitted t-shirts much lately, but this one will be great for wearing with slouchier bottoms and layering underneath cardigans and sweaters.
Just as a point of reference, my favorite white t-shirt is STILL the James Perse casual tee – it just fits right for my body, and for nearly every occasion. I do have quite a few white t-shirts, though, in different styles and shapes, to wear with different things, but if I had to choose one tee to bring with me when I travel, it would be that one.
Friday, I’ll review the Alternative Apparel perfect organic cotton v-neck, which is a looser fit.
What’s your favorite style of white t-shirt? Can I help you find a more sustainable alternative?
I’m wondering how your James Perse Ts have held up. I have 2 – in olive and black that I bought at Nordstrom Rack in the last year or two. I LOVE them and wear them constantly. I wash them on a delicate cycle and air dry them, but my olive T now has holes in it at the bottom! So sad – it has now been relegated to a workout T. Have you had any issues? I would have been pissed if I paid full price, but I think at Rack they are usually in the $30 range.
Look at your lovely shape Grechen!
my JP tees have always held up beautifully. i did have one casual tee I purchased and wore twice before it got holes at the bottom (where the button of my jeans is). i contacted JP and they exchanged it for me, and the “new” one is still in great shape, and it’s 3-4 years old?
i don’t know that it makes a difference, but i discovered that many of the JP items i’ve found in “outlet” stores like rack, last call, or off fifth are NOT made in the US, and most james perse (especially the cotton tees) are always made in the US – so they’re producing items specifically for those stores, and perhaps at lower quality? – which may be something. i stopped purchasing from outlets a while ago because of the not-made-in-the-US reason, but do have one black cap-sleeve tee that is several years old, made in guatemala from last call and still in excellent shape. so…
Grechen, I am SO GLAD to see you wearing the Groceries line. I actually just discovered the line myself a month or so ago at Viscera Boutique in Oakland, CA. She was carrying the line there, and I bought shirts for my husband. I’ve since then bought a few things from the line, including this “Zion” top that I’m playing around wearing since the cutaway is so deep on the sides (high-waist jeans, over dresses, etc.): http://www.groceriesapparel.com/zion-top
Also check out Viscera–you seem like like-minded folk. The owners is a doll! http://viscerastudio.com/
Now this is more my style – a traditional fitted v-neck. Sad to see that their L is equivalent to a misses’ size 10, though.
About eighteen months ago or so, I read somewhere (NY Times, maybe), that a lot of the merchandise sold in outlets was manufactured specifically for the outlet and was a step or two down in quality from what was offered in regular stores.
yes, there were quite a few of those articles going around a while ago…i don’t have a lot of JP from “outlets” but what i have has held up nicely though, so i can’t specifically speak to whether or not i think it’s lower quality. but it would seem to be, based on others comments. which is a shame, because i think lower-priced outlets can be a good gateway to getting to know the brand at “regular” price, but not if you get something that’s of low quality at a lower price. why would you want to pay more for that perceived quality???
i would tend to agree with that sizing, generally, although i have no idea what numerical size i am anymore, i haven’t bought anything sized that way in many years. i would guess though, that i’m a 6-8? and the medium is as small as i’d go in my groceries tops.
Wow – I was not aware of this. My outlet tees are made in Guatemala as it turns out. BUT, the drapey blazer I bought directly from JP (and LOVE btw) is made in China. So that’s kinda disappointing.
Are you wearing the medium, Grechen? Forgive me if you said so and I missed that.
Also, are you still liking the Everlane sneaks? I’m attracted to the new colors that are available now, but might hold off because I won’t get a lot of use out of them in fall/winter here in NY.
yes, this is the medium.
i do like the everlane sneakers, but when i put heel stickers in them to try and prevent my heels from slipping up they ended up a little too tight in the toes, so i’ll have to try something else…or nothing. they didn’t slip up very much really, and were more comfortable generally. basically i guess i’m saying that sizing up 1/2 is a good idea, but i wish you could just size up 1/4 size 😉
I have super-narrow heels that slip out of everything so I struggle with this all the time. Heel grips almost always make my toes feel too cramped. What I really need is something that will push my foot back farther into the shoe. Thanks for the update. I might give the black or pewter ones a try 🙂
Yes! Why do they not make such a thing??
