I mentioned last week Everlane was sending me the new wide leg crop to try, and I received my pair yesterday. I asked for the size 8 in the washed black. Lots of pictures ahead:
Everlane wide leg crop pants (gift from Everlane to review) | size 8
Everlane Muscle tank
Everlane cashmere turtleneck
Brooks Brothers camel hair blazer | FOR SALE IN SLOWRE!!
Vince Tanner Oxfords | I sized down one full size, but would recommend trying sizing down 1/2 size first
I really really really like these pants! I need to find the proper size though, because as is the case with pants of this style, on my body type, they take a lot of tweaking to get right: I have large thighs, saddlebags, and weird protruding bits on my hips (my measurements are available on my about page). But mostly, with wide leg, high-rise pants, it’s my thighs that cause all the “problems” (as you can see from where the fabric is pulling) And of course, they’re not cropped on me. In some of the pictures above, I have them rolled up one time, which is where I will have them hemmed when I decide on a size.
I asked Everlane to send me the size 10 to try (they’re on the way), and I’ll return whichever size doesn’t work out. I think the size 10 will be the winner though: the larger size will give me just a bit more room at the hips and thighs, which I need, but I’ll have to have them taken in at the waist, and shortened.
I wore these most of the afternoon after I put them on, while I was taking pictures and working on new arrivals for SLOWRE this week. They’re easy to move in, and really comfortable generally, although these are a bit snug at my thighs. I do wish they were 100% cotton so they’d give more (they’re 99% cotton 1% elastane) though – that might’ve solved my fit problem.
They’re very sturdy, mid-weight (I would have a hard time wearing these in summer) and well made. I really appreciate a pant like this that’s simple, but nicely done; they’re great to wear to a “creative” office, or for just running around on the weekend. I loved them with all the pieces styled above (I was wearing the turtleneck and muscle tee with jeans when I got the pants, and I had the blazer there in my office so decided to try it too – yes, I love the outfit with the blazer, but I haven’t worn it for two years, so I’m not keeping it…).
Look for a review of the size 10 later in the week, but if you’re interested in these at all, I would encourage you to try them. Look at the sizing carefully, as with all Everlane pants, I think they’re somewhat hard to fit if you have hips/thighs and are short. With tweaking, they’ll be wonderful though, I hope!! I’m impressed with the new pants, and that’s saying something; I haven’t been really impressed with a lot from Everlane lately…
What do you think? Will you try them? Do you have good luck with Everlane’s pants?
*Andrea tries them too – it’s always amazing how different things look on different body types/sizes. I love them on her !!
I think the pants look great on you, and as for the size I think they will stretch out even at 99%/1%.
I would struggle with that fit as well, and seriously those pockets, unless the fit is right, are NOT my friend! I tried one of their pants before, they were heavy cotton and so big and wide the looked silly on me so I sent them back. I would LOVE to find a great pair of black pants, someday… Looking forward to seeing what the next size does.
Zanna
thanks! maybe…i’ll wear them a little more at home and see what happens.
yes, i tried those pants too (they’re at slowre!), but in a size 6 and they were not good…lower rise too, which might be better for me, in the right size though. These are not as heavy, or as stiff as those, and overall, just better.
I’m always worried about items I order from Everlane, and worrying if the fit will work. But I think the pants are fabulous on you, and now I want some wide leg pants and oxfords too!
Also, I adore those shoes on you, I’m so glad you got them!
I’m glad to see an alternative to the Jesse Kamm sailor pants everyone is raving about…and that cost $395! I also just got this pair by Madewell that I like, but will probably hem if I keep them because of the raw hem. I know it’s supposed to look edgy and stylish but…

i tried those jesse kamm pants on and they were TERRIBLE on me. they wouldn’t have fit in any size, honestly, they are meant for the tall and very thin – without thighs IMO.
i like the madewell pants, and i love the raw hem 🙂
The pants look great and I love your styling as well. Look forward to your updates about these!
This is helpful; I’ve had my eye on the Jesse Kamm pants and was so hopeful about them! I sort of fit into the long/lean category, but definitely have thighs and a bum, so maybe the Kamm pants won’t work after all (my wallet thanks you).
Do you think these Everlane pants would be a good alternative? I was also thinking the ES Florence in Cotton canvas might have a similar fit too…
the jesse kamm pants were cut very slim at the waist/hip/butt but i could at least get them up over my thighs, which is more than i can say for nili lotan, for example. so if you have thighs, but long legs, and a bum, but not such wide hips, they may work for you? but honestly, i think the everlane pants are a great alternative to the jesse kamm ones. they’re worth trying anyway.
the Elizabeth suzann pants are just so different – if they fit anything like the silk ones, they’re wider, and much more casual, if that makes sense? a completely different look than the everlane pants. i gave my pair of medium, short ES florence pants to my sister because they were too small at my hips and thighs, but am interested in trying a pair of large short, but still in the silk, because i just loved the silk…
Makes sense. I work as a therapist with kids, so casual might end up being just fine for me — or they could work as a summer pant. I love the silk too! I actually found a pair of washed silk high-rise, cropped wide legs at my local goodwill last summer and I love them for warm weather. I’m always so tempted by ES’s silk pieces but because of my job, I get paranoid about getting them dirty since I’m not necessarily “careful” with my clothing (speaking of failing at keeping nice clothes clean, I just got white paint ALL OVER my black ES Clyde’s today at work… just my luck!)
Those look great on you! I think I like them better on you as they are not so “cropped.” I can’t quite get behind the cropped wide leg look. I think maybe if the fabric was a little more fluid and not so stiff, I’d like them better. Although I’d really love to have a pair of twill-like pants like this. I’ve been hit or miss with Everlane pants; I have the slouchy cropped trousers and the slouchy wide leg trousers, and I love those because they are more fluid, but the wide leg structure pants were just too stiff and unforgiving on me (which is why they are now on SLOWRE 🙂 ). I love the blue color!
I love them on your butt! It looks so good!! I find it a little hard to wear these without VPL. I agree, these pants are really impressing me! I think they’re going to be a big seller for them. Thanks for linking me. ?
(Also, I finally ordered my ES Clyde pants! ??)
haha! thanks andrea ! and yay on the ES clyde pants, can’t wait to see them on you 🙂
I think so, too! And that’s one area I’d want to look good. 😉 Thanks to Grechen for linking to your site…the pants look great on you, too!
Everyone says that cropped wide legs make your legs look long, but I’m fearful that sill look as wide as I am tall! I love the look on both of you, tho.
Grechen, I just don’t get the sizing of Everlane (once again)! You’re not a size 10. Where is the consistency?!?
I’ll, not “sill” (WTH, autocorrect?!?)
well, with everlane i don’t really think there is any consistency in sizing…except i do think that their pants/bottoms/dresses run smallish, or at least are better suited for women without hips/butt. from my experience anyway. if you’re a pretty straight size, and tall-ish i think they probably fit true to size.
and truthfully, i have no idea WHAT size i am… there’s such a big range nowadays, and it seems like every designer cuts pieces differently.
I hear you about women’s sizing, but that just makes me mad. It’s not right that my husband can walk into almost any department store (or Target and TJ Maxx) and try on a size 38, and they fit! It just doesn’t seem fair that you should have to order a 6, 8, and 10 to find your “true” size.
If I could figure this out, I’d be a billionaire!!! 🙂
I like these on you! I don’t think they appear too tight at all in the photos but you have to be comfortable, of course. High rise makes these a no for me – and they look sort of silly-high on a couple of the models, imo, but they’re hitting you in a good spot on the waist. Would you consider your torso to be pretty long for your height, Grechen? All my height is in my legs so I practically go straight from boobs to hips with not much in between. Pockets of this type are also a definite don’t for me too. I never find them flattering on my body, and almost every pant on the market now has them.
You look so chic in today’s outfits, I particularly like how you paired the pants with that black turtleneck. I’m not convinced the pants are too large, could just be awkward pocket placement, but am looking forward to how the 10s look on you. I have never ordered from Everlane but feel intrigued, so I appreciate seeing them in your photos.
Girl…. those pants are EVERYTHING!! And the outfit with the blazer? You are serving some serious Jenna Lyons-mixed-with-Annie Hall realness and I am LOVING it. As always, your style inspires me sooooo much. Can’t wait to see more outfits with these awesome pants!!
PS – I have two blog posts inspired by you in my queue right now. One is going up tomorrow!!
The pants look great, Grechen – love them on you – cropped or not. On me, they may be “too” cropped!
What is the inseam on these pants? Thanks in advance 🙂
They look great on you! I like where they hit you naturally, I wouldn’t roll or shorten them. I just got my pair yesterday in bone. I’m usually a 6 in jeans and an 8 in pants. I got the 10 and they fit much better than the 8. The straight tuck in is not doing it for me, accentuates the tummy I’m trying to hide :). I’m liking the relaxed tee look best with them.
Hi Gretchen,
I found your page through a search for Warby Parker Eli and Webb eyeglass frames.
I am wondering what glasses you are wearing now. They frame your face so well. Are these Warby Parker also, and if so, which ones? And what did you decide about Eli versus Webb?
Thanks!
Angela
I absolutely adore these pants and I have the same problem as you 🙂 They’re wayyy too long on me but after many inches off- they’re just so comfy and easy to wear 🙂
