Everlane Long ryan dress | size medium (purchased with credits from Everlane)
Robert Clergerie Pepo sandals | white version still available
I got home yesterday evening and literally threw my new Everlane long ryan dress on the moment I saw the package lying on my desk. So, I haven’t “worn” it yet, but I did play around with it a little, and I can say, I’m slightly more impressed than I thought I would be with it.
It’s pretty straight, which I really like, and fits me well – it doesn’t drape as nicely over my hips as I’d like, but with a shaper underneath, I feel a little better. I wouldn’t necessarily wear a slip with this, but I think I might, because I’d like to unbutton it a bit more from the top and bottom to show a little more skin. The dress is so dark and long, I think more skin is necessary…
The dress is heavier than their ryan tanks & tees material, which makes it mid-weight, and fairly opaque. It’ll be quite hot for summer if I’m outside very much, but for inside, dinner, etc., I think it’ll be wonderful. It has potential to be worn as a very long cardigan too, if that’s your thing.
I wish it had pockets, and that the neckline was more open, but overall, it’s a nice, easy maxi dress WITH SLEEVES. Which is what I’d been looking for for a long time.
Did anyone get theirs yet? What do you think??
Oh, and just to vent….I miss Everlane’s super-quick shipping! It takes about a week now for items to arrive, and that seems like FOREVER compared to before, and against other places like Shopbop & Revolve…
Love it on you!
Hooray, it’s not too slim in the hips! It looks great on you, and now I’m very tempted to order one myself… Is this the sort of black black that picks up every bit of lint and cat hair, or does the rayon keep all of that at bay?
Not a fan, you look great on everything but this is just too boring on just about everyone I would think.
yes, it is boring..will have to be styled right to look more interesting. but i think it’s a good “canvas”…
i honestly haven’t worn it enough “around” to tell. i’ll report back after I wear it today, how’s that? π
I love this dress on you – you look fantastic. I want to get one for myself but the black is sold out in large. I’m 5’7 and typically a 10-12 – I’ve never bought from Everyone before – what size would you recommend – a medium or a large? Thanks and I love your blog!!!
large probably – but it might depend on where you carry your weight? i am larger around the hips/butt/thighs area, and the medium fits me there, but just barely. i have a lot of room in the bust and waist. (i’m a size 29 in denim and generally a s/m in everlane tops)
I actually love it! I wouldn’t have picked it out from seeing it on the Everlane website, but it looks great on. I think it’s really flattering and chic!
thanks sarah!
I actually think it looks great on you, and to be honest, better on you than on the Everlane model….I didn’t like it on the Everlane site, but I love it on you and I’d actually consider getting one now that I have seen it on you.
I really like that on you (thought my first thought was “now you have 2 caftans” π I would have a hard time figuring out when/where to wear that. I tried on the Eileen Fisher short sleeve maxi that is similar. It was cute – but I couldn’t come up with any scenarios where I would wear it, so I left it on the sale rack at Nordstrom…. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/eileen-fisher-short-sleeve-v-neck-maxi-dress/3919645?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=2375500&fashionColor=&resultback=5360
haha! yes, i thought that too. although it’s really not NEARLY as big as that EF caftan…
i like that eileen fisher one! it’s so cool as a cardigan, which i think this everlane one would be one too, but it’s quite a bit more heavy than the eileen fisher, so wouldn’t be as flowy
oh, thanks lisa π
Quick question– is this that strange black Everlane always seems to make that’s not a true black, but a faded black?
no, it’s BLACK black …
Is it possible to open up at the bottom to show some leg? I think that’s all it needs…
I like it!
Yay!! Thank you for answering, I’m so glad to hear that. I have one of their sweatshirts in black and I love it, but I hate that I feel like I can’t wear it with other black items because it’s so faded in comparison. Thanks Grechen!
yes, it’s open up to my knees, but since it’s relatively “heavy” it drapes shut. like i don’t know what they did on the everlane site to get it to photograph open like that LOL – maybe fans? haha.
Gretchen- first this dress looks gorgeous on you! Second, I just spent an hour on your site. I googled reviews for the Everlane dress, and your site popped up.
Love. LOVE. LOVE-ITY. LOVE your site!!! Your style and your “voice”. Holy smokes! So happy to have found you!
Question- does this dress wrinkle?
Thanks for all you are up to in this world!!!
I wore it yesterday for a little while, and while i was wearing it, it didn’t wrinkle much, but i did change out of it and left it in a pile on the floor, and it DID wrinkle. i’m not sure it would be great for traveling, in that case, although the wrinkles might fall out if it’s hung up for a while. but while wearing it, it was fine, and it’s so dark, you can’t really tell it’s wrinkled anyway!
Thanks for your comment, and i’m so glad you’re here π
I love it! Totally second that it looks better on you than the Everlane model. I think it needs a couple of simple but bold accessories like the bigger earrings you were mentioning bringing back into rotation a few posts ago.
I would say that it’s worth trying a M–based on how it fit me, it would probably fit you. I am a size 12, 36C and am an “apple” body type. This fit me with some ease.
I ordered this dress and the tank version. While they both fit, they were both sort of “meh” on me, so are going back. I have been looking for a tank dress for that last couple of years, but I think I need to admit that it’s just not the style for me.
I have to say, I didn’t love the fabric–it was a little thin. Eileen Fisher had a dress this spring (that I bought and returned, and am now kicking myself for it) that was a really soft knit but thick enough that it skimmed the body instead of clinging. And it had pockets!
Love this on you!!! I can totally get behind this Everlane maxi. It’s simple, unbroken line, worn with your great sandals give you such a long look. And your fitness shows it off to its best. I think a couple of choice stunning but personal accessories will show it off to its very best.
Now, how will it wash?!?
ha! dryel in the dryer π but i’ll wear a slip with this, so i won’t do it very often..
ordered the dress in the tan, hope it works…
