So, I’m responding to reader requests today. Alicia asked to see the Everlane ryan long sleeve tee and Christine “hinted” that she’d like to see the chunky turtleneck without the blazer. Et Violร .
As I mentioned in my Everlane cashmere review post, I ordered the white long sleeve ryan tee with the cashmere sweater, and like it better than the first gen. grey ryan long sleeve I got about a year ago. The neck is not quite as open on this one as the grey one (which I like better), and the sleeves are cut a little more generously (also longer, but I don’t mind that as much). The length seems to be about the same, but in general I think it’s just a teeny bit more tunic-y. Mostly, I appreciate that the neck is not so wide that I see my bra straps. And I love that the sleeves are easy to push up, and that they stay up, which is a little more than I can say of my T by Alexander Wang long sleeve tee.
(I actually wore a mash-up of both outfits: the Ryan tee, turtleneck, goldsign virtual jeans, and sneakers)
I did also indicate when I reviewed the turtleneck that I would probably wear it with something OVER it more often that as the top layer, because I don’t like that the sleeves are between sleeveless & cap sleeve – not as flattering on my larger upper arms. But now that I see it, I don’t mind it so much. And it’s a great outfit for 60-70 degree days…not too hot, but still keeps my neck warm!
The jeans were an experiment. I have become obsessed with these HOPE jeans recently, because, as you may remember, I have been on a search for a pair of slouchy-leg jeans that will fit my “thicker” legs. I know now, there is no such thing. At least not as a “modern” pair of jeans.
So, I pulled these 9-yr old Goldsign Passion jeans out of the goodwill pile just to see if they would fit like I want them to, or similar to the HOPE jeans, and I think they do, or at least they’ll fit as slouchy as any pair of jeans WILL fit on me, but I don’t like them on me. I hereby give up. Anyway, I like the fit of my new Goldsign Virtual high-rise jeans better, and they’re just as comfortable.
Dream over, moving on. My legs will never been thin, or even small. They’re THICK. But they get me around, and I’m thankful for that. So what that I won’t look like clothing models in their perfectly slouchy boyfriend jeans…
Anyway, happy Friday. Leo and I are driving to Austin for the day, and Dagny’s spending her first night in a “hotel”. Whoa. Have a wonderful weekend!!
I don’t know, Grechen, I’m loving that cap sleeve on the vest. It is very flattering.
I want one!
Frankly anything looks slouchy when you are a stick figure… It’s really hard to determine fit when looking at these very tall and thin models online, which is why I buy very little online, even though I am frequently tempted to do so…
Grechen, I would love to see you dressed in more fitted clothes. The Everlane ryan T-shirt in the first photo looks too big for you. The outfit in the second photo makes you look much slimmer.
I think the sleeveless turtleneck looks amazing on you! I avoid designs like that because I already have broad shoulders and I don’t want to emphasize my “top line” but I think it’s actually very flattering otherwise.
Also that t seems HUGE for a medium.
As for slouchy jeans, my problem tends to more finding ones that aren’t slouchy. lol you and I should do an “opposite figures” blog ๐
But I agree with the above commenter that slouchy is really difficult unless you are tall and slender. I mean, I have proportionally long legs, but I am 5′ 4″ and a little slouchy goes a loooooong way.
As always, I’m curious to know how it is holding up. No pesky holes, I hope! And would you say it is fairly opaque?
Ok, so it’s just a given that those Goldsign Virtuals look fan-freakin’-tastic on you! But I have to admit, I’m a huge fan of outfit #2. I think with a minor tweak to the bottoms of those jeans (have them altered to straight leg…hence, perfect for a bigger cuff/slouchy cuff), you’d have the look you’re going for. I LOVE the sleeveless turtle over the tee. And the clogs are great to pull the whole outfit together.
Love that Everlane sweater on you! Thinking about getting on the waitlist for it… but I’m not sure if I would actually wear it as much as their other chunky knits. Really want to know about the chunky knit raglan!
I love the sleeveless tunic! I think it’s super flattering, with the gentle curve of the sleeve emphasizing your round, strong (and sexy!) shoulders! It looks mega awesome, you’re inspiring me to try something like this too. Just wanted to say I adore your blog and your style, I’m here all the time but rarely comment. I feel as though I, like you, love to shop, but try to find ways to feel less guilty about indulging my vice — I give stuff away, I resell, and I buy secondhand (though I know that’s not for everyone). Anyway, I mega-appreciate your transparency here and how you lay out your feelings, good and bad, about the process of wardrobe building (and dismantling). xo
Yes, outfit #2 is great and the cap sleeves flatter you, despite what you think, and agree with Val on the straight-leg jeans option.
And since “Marsala” is the Pantone Color of the Year for 2015, your clogs are right on trend. ๐
What about the midnight color loafers – swoon.
The loafers looks great on you.
Pants are TOUGH. I take comfort knowing that my legs are STRONG (even if they can’t always fit neatly into a nice pair of jeans ;)).
This is a super cute outfit on you!
ha!
thanks jen, for influencing me to try the tunic in the first place! it’s great, and i do agree with you on the cap sleeves, they’re not so bad…
thank you so much julia!! i looked at your blog post earlier and am AMAZED at the pieces you got!! especially that enza costa cardigan, what a great buy..
thanks so much for your comment ๐
i had another pair of bootcut jeans (james) altered to get the leg straightened, and i didn’t like the result. ended up cutting them in to shorts after spending $$ on alterations…so i’m not sure i’ll do that again.
i haven’t washed it yet, and have worn it a couple of times with no holes yet! and i have no problem wearing it just with a “nude” colored (on me) bra underneath, but it’s not fully opaque.
true…true…
and agree also on the temptation. even though i KNOW the style won’t work on me, i have to obsess over it anyway.
oh…get one! it would look great on you!
it is sort of large for a medium. and goes to what i’ve always sort of said about everlane, that i think a lot of their sizing is off, and should be marked actually larger than it is. like i think this top would generally fit a size large…
beautiful color!!!!!
