Zady sent me this organic cotton top & an alpaca sweater last week to review for you. Since it’s still in the high 90’s here (although, I’m hoping today is the last day), I haven’t worn the sweater yet, but I did wear this outfit yesterday for a meeting and some random shopping/errands.
My impressions after wearing this top once are very good; I definitely recommend it. At first, when I put it on, I noticed that the fabric was just a bit itchy (as Jen also mentioned in a comment recently), but after wearing it for a few minutes, and then all day, it wasn’t an issue anymore. Incidentally, I’ve found that to be the case with a lot of fabrics (cashmere, alpaca) that are initially itchy; they soften up quickly with wear, and washing. I will say that if you are VERY sensitive to fabrics, this might not be the shirt for you.
Otherwise, I like the fit very much, although it is slightly small in my upper arms. But seriously, pretty much EVERY top I buy/own is a little snug in the upper arms, so while it’s not ideal, it’s something I have to get used to. With wear, the arms did loosen up a little, and again, I didn’t really notice it after a while. It fits me well through the hips/waist, and up top; no button gap. But then again, I’m a 34b (on a good day), so I don’t have a lot up there to fill it out. Mostly, I like the slight drape in the back, and that it hits just right below my hips. It’s not oversized at all, and I couldn’t wear it with leggings, but it’s meant to be a more tailored shirt that works equally well tucked in, or out. (I did try it tucked into my Kit & Ace pants and it looks really nice…)
And just a quick note on the lightweight alpaca sweater: they sent me a medium and it’s the right size for me. It is slightly itchy when I put it on and since I haven’t worn it yet, I don’t know how quickly it will soften up. I can’t imagine wearing it with NOTHING underneath though, so I think the itchy-ness will be a moot point. It would be a really nice length for most people, but it’s a teeny bit longer than I’d like in a slim sweater on me. I did try folding the waistband under and blousing it out a little to make it shorter (so I can wear it with slouchy pants, or high-waisted pants) and that works to “crop” it a bit.
Hopefully I’ll be able to wear the sweater for you next week, and give you a better idea of how it wears, but at first glance, I also recommend it; it’s a great, more sustainable alternative to cashmere and a wonderful lighter weight, that will be good for wearing alone in cool weather and as a warm layer under a coat or heavy blazer when it’s colder.

Has anyone ordered anything from Zady’s new essentials collection for fall? There are a couple new arrivals lately, including this really cool chunky wool sweater (from Imperial Stock Ranch wool – US sheep!) and alpaca cardigan.
