Black Crane painter’s jumpsuit

I missed you guys yesterday! My mom came in town for a visit this week, so I was frantically trying to get myself and the house ready – didn’t have time for a post. FYI, I wore exactly this outfit.
And what I’m wearing here…I took these pictures because I wanted to put this jumpsuit up for sale, but after I took them, I noticed that there are more stains on it than I had seen previously, mostly at the armpits. EW. So I can’t sell it. I’ve worn this jumpsuit less than a dozen times, but it has deodorant stains on it and some unknown oil-based stains that WILL NOT COME OUT on the front. Ugh.
I like the jumpsuit, and will wear it, maybe, but I was hoping someone else would enjoy it more than I do. It’s good at home, since I need sleeves in the air conditioning, but bathroom breaks are a minor pain. Ah well.
I was using Meow Meow tweet deo last year which is probably where the stains came from, and have since switched to Schmidt’s. We’ll see how it works for summer and if I notice any staining on my black linen pieces from it. I may just stop wearing deodorant all together. I was listening to the Forever35 podcast the other day and Doree says she doesn’t wear it at all. So…it does get REALLY hot here in the summer though. In that same podcast Jessa Blades mentioned that you can rub lemon on your armpits and that kills the bacteria there, and could help with the odor. Maybe I’ll try that? I’m just tired of staining my clothes with the oils from deo. Which never seemed to happen when I was using toxic deo BTW.
Anyway, enough randomness for the day 🙂
Happy Wednesday!!!
I dunno, my husband used Degree for years, and that stuff is a b*itch to get out of shirts… He uses “Alvera” roll-on now which doesn’t stain, but I think it does contain TEA, which has aluminum, if that’s a concern to you. I’m pretty lazy about deodorant. As long as I shower somewhat regularly and keep my pits shaved I don’t seem to get much odor so I often just skip it altogether. If I let them get hairy, they seem to harbor quite a bit more odor-causing bacteria. Maybe that would balance out over time, too, but I kind of prefer the shaved look anyway. 😉
I am working hard to embrace a little bit of staining in my everyday clothes. But it’s hard. My favourite pants have bleach splatters on them now (that’s the risk of wearing something ALL THE TIME I guess). They aren’t available anymore, so there’s no way I’m getting rid of them, but I really wish they didn’t have tiny orange spots all over them. Limits where I feel okay wearing them. I did manage to score an identical pair that are one size larger, so I wore those all winter with long johns underneath, but now it’s too warm to do that… I’m wondering if I should try to garment-dye the original pants to tone down the stains (I know I won’t be able to make them disappear…).
I know you didn’t ask for advice, but wanted to offer up that I’ve gotten out tough oil stains with liquid Tide and a toothbrush. Let sit, then wash in hot water. Repeat if necessary. ?
i like to keep shaved too 🙂 especially if i’m staring at my armpits in the mirror at pure barre!!
i think i’ll try going without periodically. or use the EO spray before doing something strenuous or sweaty. i don’t sweat much unless i’m exercising or outside all the time.
i don’t mind stains on my clothes for myself, but i would definitely never sell them that way, unless they’re just not really noticeable. none of the stains on my jumpsuit are noticeable at all when worn, but the pit stains are sort of gross to think about honestly, so i wouldn’t want to pass those on to someone else LOL
thank you! i’ve tried that with my laundress stain solution, which usually works well, but didn’t this time. i wonder about washing linen in hot water though?
Deodorant stains are the worst! Be careful of using lemon juice. It can bleach fabric, just like it can help lighten hair!
yes, i thought about that when i wrote it! i would just use it with white shirts haha…and not put anything on until it’s very dry.
So wait, lemon juice on your armpits instead of deodorant? Wouldn’t that burn like a bitch after you shave?
Yes. Yes it would. She meant it as an “emergency” measure like if you’re out and notice Odor. You can use lemon juice and it should neutralize it. So maybe not first thing after shaving.
I’ve been using a mixture of baking powder and corn starch dusted on my pits. Effective enough. I do some surreptitious dabbing with a handkerchief later in the day when necessary!
I use Schmidt’s and have not noticed it staining any of my black linen so hope you find this too!
I rarely wear deodorant since I shower daily, particularly here in N.Y. during the winter. I actually bought some today since the weather is tuning warmer. I like to have it on hand but I doubt that I’ll start using it on a daily basis. By the way, I love the jumpsuit on you, and those slides!
I’ve started using Schmidts a couple of years ago and not noticed any staining. I’ve recently made my own too, coconut oil, cornflour and bicarb plus essential oil which works just as well. I was astonished when I tried the Schmidts to find that it actually worked.
I use Schmidt’s. I haven’t really noticed staining but I have to be very careful when wearing silk, which is annoying. Have you tried Dawn dish soap for the stains? Or Dawn mixed with white vinegar, it is supposed to be magic.
I wish I could go without deodorant but I get STINKY. Always have, even when I’ve done a plant-based diet and cut out dairy. 🙁 I suppose it’s just my genetics.
i used to make my own with coconut oil, etc., and it stained my clothes terribly. it was awful 🙁 i thought it worked well, but what a pain to have it get oily stains on everything!
thank you!
i should try that. i used the lush powder deo for a while and thought it was effective. but i never could figure out how to apply it without making a huge mess. then someone (maybe you?) suggested using a big powder brush and brushing it on. or i guess a washcloth would work? how do you apply it?
Some use vodka or Everclear, no bleaching like with lemon. Would still sting I’m sure if used immediately after shaving. Can easily re-apply or drink during the day, as needed.
I’m sorry to say I had the exact opposite experience! I was trying out the fragrance-free formula for sensitive skin and was horrified to discover the stains – nothing like it has ever happened to me before. I now only use it when I’m wearing sleeveless items. That said, I didn’t notice anything like it when I used their normal formula with baking soda but I had to stop because baking soda irritates my skin.
I’ve gone back to using spray deos – mine is from an Aussie brand called Sukin. Does the job!
Yep, I use a powder brush. I keep the baking soda/cornstarch mixture in a short, wide-mouth jar in the bathroom.
I’ll have to give Schmidts another try after reading all these reviews! I got a rash when using during the summer, although I seem to have more success with it when it’s not 75+ degrees outside. I’m getting ready to move up to Washington next month and was pleasantly surprised to find this winter that it was so cold (to me, from Bay Area) that I didn’t sweat at all whenever I visited from November – March. At this point in my life, the less deoderant I have to wear, the better! It also helps that loose styles are in, so everything I own is loose in the pits area.
I used to sweat a TON as a teenager and through most of my twenties, but after I hit my late twenties I swear my sweat glands calmed down a lot. I still use natural deoderant when I’m out with people or it’s summer (I’m not brand loyal, just so long as I don’t get rashes), but I’ve found that on my days off I can get away with not wearing deoderant. Or maybe I’ve just lived in a hippie town for too long 😛
Haha. Yes!!!
I have to wear deodorant because I always sweat there. Rarely does it smell, but it’s unpleasant and limits the kinds of tops I feel comfortable in. I don’t wear an antibiotic perspirant, but have found that Old Spice Fiji (not the anti perspirant one, rather the blue gel one) is pretty awesome. It doesn’t stain and keeps me fresh. 🙂
Thanks for the warning – I just went and checked under the arms of the white tees I wear under my work scrubs and they are fine. However, as we are just coming out of winter I may not have sweated much since using my own brew! I’ll be paying attention as the weather warms up for sure
LOVE that jumpsuit on you. I actually bought one because i liked yours so much!! you look fantastic.
A note to say that I have organically weaned my consumption of blogs and fashion-y internet of late. Most content seems (overtly or covertly) sponsored and grasping and I find myself less and less interested. Your voice is rather uniquely honest and I am curious about new brands you identify and your thoughts on clothing and self-presentation. Your blog is one of the few I still read. Thank you
thank you 🙂
i do like this jumpsuit…
Why not an old-fashioned powder pouf?
For the most part I only wear deodorant when I am group exercising or when I am doing a work presentation (the stress sweat is real…). Since I stopped shaving my armpits, I’ve found that they actually smell less, but that might just be a me thing!
I think to get out the oily stains, the detergent has to have enzymes. And I think of linen as being very durable! 🙂
Crystal Body Deodorant doesn’t leave any stains! I find that i need to wipe my underarms and reapply (the wipes or the spray are handy for this) after i sweat a lot, but considering that I would still smell a little bit back when I used traditional antiperspirant/deodorant AND that stuff stained my clothing, I’m pretty happy with Crystal.
So, I have to recommend using an AHA/BHA on your armpits as a way to stop odor! I am using the Stridex Maximum Strength lads—just a swipe in the morning. It doesn’t help stop perspiration, but it does stop odor. At least on some people, myself included (we shall see if this survives the summer months).
