Hello. You might have noticed no new posts last week, I hope you didn’t miss me too much π
On Monday I flew to Orlando to surprise my father for his birthday on the 29th (remember that he surprised me on my birthday?), so I couldn’t do a regular “travel outfit” post because he would have read it. I will post my travel outfit later this week, but the picture above is what I wore home from Orlando on Friday (and can I just say how utterly disappointed I am with the majority of the flying public? I mean, some of the women were barely “dressed”). As usual, I stressed out for three days before on what I was going to take with me in my teeny tiny carry-on suitcase.
Here’s what I packed:
Lanston maxi dress
Gap long striped maxi dress
Sweaty Betty yoga pants (wore these as “shorts” to the zoo)
James Perse casual tee – white
Everlane v-neck – white
H&M slouchy pants
James Perse cami dress (very very old, for wearing around the house)
Inhabit cotton cardigan
Everlane sweatshirt
Swimsuit (didn’t wear)
Splendid black cami (didn’t wear)
Short sleeve knit cardigan (didn’t wear)
REI shorts/skirt (yes, it’s a skirt with shorts underneath. I DO NOT wear shorts)
Mephisto sandals
Nike running shoes
n.d.c. made by hand sandals (last seen here, not available online)
Melissa plastic sandals (no longer available – for rain, lake)
So Low striped tank top
Outfits:
Monday on the plane/rest of day | AG tomboy jeans, Target sleeveless top, Everlane sweatshirt, Mephisto sandals
Tuesday (shopping!!) | H&M slouchy pants, JP casual tee, n.d.c. sandals
Wednesday (Wekiva Springs park) | REI shorts, Nike shoes, JP casual tee then changed to Gap striped dress & Melissa sandals in the afternoon
Thursday (zoo) | Sweaty Betty yoga capris, Everlane tee, Mephisto sandals
Friday | Outfit above
Naturally, I brought back more than I took:
Alcott dress from All Saints
Target chambray shirt dress
Target built-in-bra cami
Alex & Ani bracelet (at least this doesn’t take up extra room!!)
I should have brought a long sleeve tee and perhaps my other Everlane sweatshirt; it was “cool” and windy in the mornings and evenings and since my dad lives on a lake, I like to be outside ALL THE TIME. I could have done without the n.d.c sandals and probably the melissa sandals, but they don’t take up a lot of room. I didn’t use my swimsuit or the short-sleeve cardigan, but I would have hated it if I hadn’t brought them. My Nikes are what take up the most room in my bag, but they’re the most necessary – I try to exercise as much as possible when I travel. All things considered, I feel like I did okay packing for this trip – everything just barely fit into my bag. I wish I didn’t stress out so much about it beforehand, but that’s just what I do π
I’m flying to Indiana on Thursday; a shorter trip, but a wedding is involved, which requires “nicer” shoes and therefore less room for clothes in my bag. I’m already worried about packing…not to mention WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR TO THE WEDDING???
Where in Indiana? My home state! Also, I am going to Orlando for a wedding this weekend- weird!
i’m going to columbus, IN with my dad, step-mom, sister and her kids. my dad, sister & i were born there, our half-sister still lives there, and her daughter is getting married. we never really lived there, we moved to florida when i was two, and it’s been many years since i’ve been…should be fun π
although i’ve always been bitter that IU didn’t accept me for grad school…LOL
wish we could have crossed paths in orlando!!
Love those bright sneaks & the hard luggage!
Let me just say that IU doesn’t know what they missed out on with you, but it’s their loss!!! I have relatives there, too, but in Indianapolis, and it’s been years since I’ve visited. I remember it was HOT in the summer! At least this is a short trip to pack for. How about your Madewell dress that you wore for your wedding? (If it still fits, of course). I think you did admirably fitting all of those items into that little suitcase!! I’m impressed π And you didn’t even wear all of it? Isn’t that the way it always goes? I’m into list making for packing. The last time I traveled, which was to Chicago, I went minimalist and it worked well for me. And I didn’t even shop! (that’s a 1st!). I would have loved another pair of pants, though. And I can’t wait to see the way that you style the All Saints dress…LOVE it!!
haha!
i actually don’t have my wedding dress anymore. i was thinking of wearing my mociun linen wrap dress, but i will probably end up wearing a long printed skirt, black silky tee and cream blazer. that way no one will have to see my legs. they’re embarrassing right now with all the bruises and bug bites….
Have we seen the wrap dress? It sounds pretty! Just do self-tanner on your legs and no one will notice the bruises or the bites! Really!!
Love all the Indiana connections- but Val is right, what was IU THINKING? If it is any consolation, Bloomington is wonderful for undergrads but you probably would have found it boring as a grad student. Certainly no Barneys Co-Ops there π
And yes, self-tanner can fix anything! I am an evangelist for St. Tropez tanning mousse- the best self tanner there is, and I have tried a few.
there’s not even a barney’s co-op in AUSTIN anymore!!! i died a little inside when it closed…
will try that self-tanner today. i looked at it yesterday at sephora, but self-tanners scare the crap out of me, so i’ve never tried. any secrets to doing it right??
i last wore it here: http://grechenscloset.com/outfit-29/ – if i can get that self-tanner right, i might wear it. otherwise, i’ll stick with my long skirt option…
Get the glove that St. Tropez sells! I almost didn’t because I was outraged at the price of the St. Tropez itself, but it makes application MUCH easier and you do not get the dreaded orange fingers. Other than that, remember to shave and possibly exfoliate your legs a bit before application, and put a bit of lotion on your knees, heels, and other dry areas. If you do that and follow the St. Tropez directions, you should be set π
Sarge is exactly right: Exfoliate, shave, and moisturize on the rough spots. I’ve never tried a mitt before, but I certainly am going to now! It’ll look great!!!
