You know that instagram account youdidnoteatthat? This is my knock off – I totally DID NOT WEAR THIS yesterday. Because it was 92 degrees. Not 100+, but still, too hot for wool. But Renza was asking in the comments about the length, AND Madewell is offering 20% off $100+ or 30% off $200+ this weekend with code WINWIN, so I wanted to get a picture & review up so if you’ve been looking at the tracklist sweater, you can get it. Or not get it, depending on how I sway you 😉
This sweater is good. Not perfect, or EXACTLY what I was wanting, but it will do fine, and I know I’ll wear it a lot (I exchanged the oversized chambray shirt I got last month for it, so I paid only $9 out of pocket, which was a big reason I got it). As you can tell, it IS long enough in the back to cover my ass. Here, I’m wearing it with jeans, but if I were to wear it with leggings, I would probably STILL wear another slightly longer (Everlane tank?) layer underneath for a TEENY bit more coverage back there. But it’s not really necessary.
I went with the dark olive green color because I already have gray sweaters I love, and I wanted to have something besides gray to wear with all my black bottoms/dresses. As far as accent colors go, this is one of my favorites, so I know I’ll wear it. I did have an “oversized” black sweater on my fall shopping list, and I’m thinking this has replaced it, and I’ll just go with the black Vince cardigan I have been looking at. But I’m waiting for cooler weather before I buy any more sweaters. Or a Shopbop coupon code. Whichever comes first.
The thing that’s NOT great about this sweater is the sleeves. Of course. Sleeves are tough for me, and I normally pay very close attention to length, style, and material when I buy sweaters. Sleeves that are cuffed and ribbed at the bottom work BEST for me, because even though they’ll still be long on my short arms, they’ll stay put. These are long, and have no closure at the bottom so they hang there. And the MOMENT you push them up on your arms, they stretch out like crazy, and you’ll never be able to get them back how they were before. See why I said that cashmere James Perse cardigan is so genius??
I don’t mind the sleeves rolled up like they are here, and honestly, when it’s colder, I won’t mind them being so long either. I just love my cashmere sweaters, and many of my higher-priced pieces, for the attention that’s paid to the sleeve styles…
Anyway, I think I’ll be very happy with this sweater, and it should hold up well for several years**. If I ever get to wear it, that is.
(oh yeah, in January, I’ll be complaining about how cold I am all the time and I can never get warm…)
Happy Friday!!
**just was looking at some reviews online and they’re not the greatest in terms of quality/longevity. shame.
You look GREAT in that color! And it’s not always an easy one for people to pull-off. But I like it. The reason I was asking about the green, is that it seemed like an “exception to your rule,” which is fine, cuz I’m no “Stick to the rules” chick! But I secretly worried that it was a sidestep from your plan and an easy way to defeat your own purposes. You know what I mean? I think that olive works within your color scheme, so if you choose to add it, that’s cool. Just do it purposefully. 🙂
if i recall correctly, the black/white/gray rule was for purging – as in, “get rid of anything that’s not black/white/gray” 😉
of course, i did keep a few things that were not, like an olive military jacket, the sage green everlane trench coat, and my rose james perse tee…i should have qualified that by adding olive/military green, because that’s the only other color i really wear/like…
thanks for keeping me accountable though, MOM. LOL
Thanks for sharing a photo! It looks great on you! Olive is one of those colors that I love on other people but have to stop myself from buying because I would wear it rarely (I guess like how you are with stripes) 😉 I decided against the Tracklist Pullover for now because there were many other items on my Madewell wishlist that were higher priority, but I will definitely try it on if I see it in store..
Can we talk about how good those jeans look on you!?!
Sorry! It’s not the first time I’ve been accused of micromanaging! 🙂
ha! thanks lisa. i love them…
