Mother Maternity jeans
Emerson Fry Tiger Fete “kimono”
Storq Daily Tank (size 3) | I bought this one, but received one in white from them as a gift
I got so many comments/compliments on my outfit – mostly it was the tigers – yesterday I had to post. So, two days in a row, yay!! (you may have seen it on Instagram too if you follow me there). The jeans are a little tight under my belly now, so this may be it for them, although I keep saying that and keep wearing them LOL. Anyway, I only have a few more weeks, so I can get away with just wearing my Storq leggings or skirt if I need to wear separates (which I always do for doctor appointments).
I did order a nursing/maternity bra from Shopbop (with credits) that will arrive today, but otherwise, I’m trying not to wear a bra as much as possible. If I can just wear a tank (I love this Storq one – I have three) with a jacket or tee over, I’m good without a bra, but I do want to wear loose tees/dresses sometimes that really do need a bra, so I decided to try the organic cotton bra by Hanky Panky. I ordered a size up from my normal HP size and I’m hopeful that it will work. I have a few lace bras by HP that I’ve had for many years that are still holding up quite nicely, so I feel good about the investment. Anyway, I really prefer mostly cotton when I can find it.
That said though, I did LOVE the True & Co bra I bought from Slowre when it came through on consignment a year or so ago. They are NOT mostly cotton, but so comfortable and seamless. I think I had an XS and wore it early in my pregnancy but lost it somehow on our Santa Fe trip. So, when I saw them on sale during the Nordstrom anniversary sale, I ordered three in smalls and mediums that I thought I’d be able to wear now and later comfortably. WRONG. I’d have to wear the large to be comfortable, but even so, the longer length of the bra is uncomfortable with my belly so big and up close to my boobs that I’m just giving up on those for now. Anyway, after trying them on, they don’t seem as great for breastfeeding as I thought.
So my Nordstrom anniversary sale order was a bust. As usual. I have never really ordered much during this sale as I find the pieces lower quality sometimes (Eileen Fisher, ahem) and I’m not great at purchasing out of season. And I HATE ALL THE HYPE and buildup around this sale. Sure, if you need Hanky Panky thongs (I’m still wearing the retro thong), it might be a good time to stock up on them on sale, but I don’t need to buy them every year – I find that they last many many years and hardly ever need replacing. I do always look, because you know, FOMO, but I’ve hardly ever had a successful anniversary sale order.
What about you? Did you shop the Anniversary sale? What do you usually purchase during the sale, if anything? Or do you always sit it out?
I love this kimono. I am really going to miss your pregnancy posts! I am 20 weeks along and you really just match my vibes. Hard to describe but I don’t feel a connection with most mom bloggers, they are great but not for me. I am considering renting a Snoo so I’ll keep an eye out to see what you think of it!
oh, congratulations!!
i don’t feel a connection to most mom bloggers either LOL. we’ll see how i am as a blogger who’s a mom haha.
I will definitely write about my experience with baby stuff, snoo included. i’m looking forward to trying it out. hope it lives up to the hype…
I have a couple things on my Nordstrom wish list but I probably won’t order. I can only remember one item anyway (beauty) so I can’t want anything that badly 😉 There is a cute coat I like but they’re sold out in my size (guessing as it’s not a brand I know) and I do NOT need more coats. I live in NC and hardly wear the coats I do own….I do need some new shoes for fall (comfy + brown but not TOO casual – have some ecco slip on sneakers for that genre- something for work) but didn’t see anything I loved. Sort of need a new purse too, but it’s probably more a want than a need so I’m holding off until/unless I see something that steals my heart….
I think you’re due when I’m on vacation, which gives me something to look forward to when I get back? 😉 Hope everything goes super smoothly!
Just a quick note re nursing bras, though I’m sure you’ve received lots of advice and suggestions from other moms already. I’d just like to offer up my fantastic experience with Bravado nursing bras. I had two, and loved them so much I wore them for probably a whole year after giving birth (and then, with sorrow in my heart, passed them along to a friend). They were so soft, good quality, gave great support and were very easy to manipulate one-handed for nursing purposes. Mine weren’t cotton and I don’t know if Bravado makes cotton ones, but they are worth trying anyway. If there is a second-hand buy/sell moms’ FB group in your area, I suggest asking if anyone is selling Bravado bras. Definitely worth a try – I can’t recommend them highly enough.
i appreciate the input! but here’s the thing with me and bras: my cup size is like A.5 haha and my band size is closer to 36, so the problem with most nursing bras i’ve found is that the cup/body of the bra is WAY too big for me, comes up too high, etc. i looked at the bravado bras earlier on and they seemed like they’d be too big on me too, so i decided not to try.
incidentally the hanky panky bra i just mentioned is WAY too big on me and i’m not sure if i size back down, if it will fit me at all. as far as i can tell my cup size hasn’t really changed very much, it’s more my band.
ugh. i did get a kindred bravely bra (they’re organic cotton) which is also too big, but fits better than anything else i’ve tried. and i have bras i’ve had forever that are slightly bigger on me, so maybe those will work also. probably my breasts will get bigger after he’s born? and swell, etc., so i’ll just wait.
so frustrating trying to figure all this out LOLOL
Hello Grechen,
Congrats on your pregnancy!
Since you’ve mentioned the Nordstrom sale, I have also had little luck in finding quality pieces. I was wondering however about the Something Navy line, have you had any experience with this clothing line? Some of the pieces look cute and wearable and the prices seem reasonable but I was wondering about the quality.
Thank you!
Sam
thank you!!
i do not have any direct experience with the line at all, nor have i seen anything in person so i really can’t speak to the quality. i would say that in general, looking for things that are mostly natural fabrics like cotton or linen tends to lead to better results overall 😉
I always get disproportionately excited about the sale, when I never really find anything in the end. As Kelly said, beauty items and exclusives are enticing to me
Hey Grechen, I’m so thrilled for you and hope these last weeks are easy and relaxing. In the bra department, I was similar in size (I wore “Nearly B” bras forever) and never really had cleavage until my son was born. Once my milk came in, I couldn’t stop touching my breasts because they were there, lol. I liked the Bravado bras and wore them a really long time, too. I’m now a 34 D. You’ll find something that works for you.
I didn’t buy anything in the Nordstrom sale, and I usually don’t. But my favorite Natori lace trim bras (not the feathers one) were on sale at Nordstrom Rack so I got 2 online. They have a Natori sale periodically, so it’s a good time to get them at half off. I wear them exclusively and they last a long time, too.
thanks for your input catherine!! i’m just going to give up on looking for bras now, i’m not really THAT comfortable in what i have but i can make it a little further without i think. after i see how my breasts grow (or if), I’ll figure out what to try i guess, if yours went up to a d, that’s promising LOL. this is all so confusing!! and weird!!!
I have similar feelings about the Nordstrom Sale, however, I do like purchasing new workout wear during the sale when I need it.. I’ve had good luck with the activewear brand Zella which I’ve never seen outside Nordstrom.
That is a great kimono! I often put things in my cart during the Nordstrom anniversary sale, but rarely actually check out. I find the hype around it really annoying too. This year the only things I considered seriously were some fancy candles and Blondo waterproof booties. I currently live in a climate where it is very rainy in the winter, and I wore the pair of Blondo waterproof booties I bought in last years sale a lot this year. But do I need a second pair in a different style? Probably not and its too hot right now to light a candle in the house, so don’t need more of those either.
