I am really a very simple person. Little things make me very happy, in fact I’m at my happiest sitting reading a good book (on my Kindle of course ;)) and drinking a cup of coffee. Sometimes I forget how important and wonderful the simple things are, when I’m caught up in trying to DO too much instead of just BEING. I’m also trying to HAVE everything right now, which takes me away from the amazing, simple things I ALREADY HAVE. Like this Lanston dress.
I bought this dress before we went to Rome for my birthday in 2011 and wore it a lot up until this summer. It’s a size medium, so it’s not really too big for me, in fact, it fits me very well; I don’t even have to wear spanx with it anymore. But since I’ve been adding so many other things to my wardrobe recently, I’ve not worn this dress as much as I should. I really need to wear it more often, because it’s perfect, and it makes me feel great: instantly put-together, chic & minimal at the same time. Simple.
What are your favorite simple pieces?
And just because life isn’t all about our wardrobes, here are some more of my favorite simple pleasures:
- organic blueberries: I’ve been getting mine at costco and can eat a giant container in about three days.
- good coffee
- a good book: right now I’m reading Thorn Birds, which is old, and I remember the miniseries on TV, but I never read the book. I usually read a book a week, but since my stepson is here, it’s more like a book a month, so I’m not very far into it.
- not having to wear spanx 😉
- having the ability to do Pure Barre five days a week. I truly do NOT know how I would manage without it. In fact, I barely do when I’m away on vacation
What are your favorite simple pleasures??
I am currently on the hunt for a simple black maxi dress with a scoop neck. I love my v-neck one but I have to wear a cami under it to keep it from being indecent. I think I found one, and I can’t wait to start wearing it! Simple pleasures are the best. Give me a dress, some flats, and owl necklace and I am good! And for the weekend…… a good book, and some sweet tea 🙂
you and your owls 😉
oh, i forgot tea! jasmine green tea is my crack right now…
My New Years goal was to lose 35 lbs so I could buy a pair of size 32 designer jeans at the Nordstrom anniversary sale. Only lost 20 and was bummed until I saw they offered size 33 and 34 in certain styles. Woohoo ! So my favorite purchase from this years sale is the size 33 Paige jeans I got. I found your blog when I fell in love with Lanston maxi dresses. Don’t fit in the two I have but crossing my fingers I soon will. For now I have a few of Nordstrom brand maxi’s that will get me through.
congratulations on your weight loss!!
i’d like to get the long sleeve version of the lanston dress at some point, it’s so versatile.
You look fantastic.
I LOVE this dress on you! And you’re even developing those little shoulder “thingys” that all the stars with traingers have (you know, your shoulders have definition and that little “thingy” stands out in evening dresses…Idk… ;-)). All I know is you look great.
I’d have to say that my simple pleasures are:
1. The smell of my coffee brewing in the morning, and since I love the kind of coffee that could grow hair on your chest (my Scandinavian heritage, perhaps?), it smells EXTRA aromatic!
2. A nice glass of wine on the deck at night with my husband, spent gazing out at the ocean, feeling the cool breeze.
3. A delivery by the UPS man!! (I say “man” because we don’t have any UPS women. But it’s funny, I think my husband is jealous that he knows me by name. Could be that he’s here almost everyday!)
4. Sleeping-in in the morning and not wanting to get out of my comfy bed and get dressed for the day.
This is a great post!
I love wearing a simple black or grey dress with some pink or metallic shoes.
And I also love simple eats:
perfect coffee,
an oreo,
a perfect donut,
and this week peach cobbler!
I am on the hunt for the perfect simple grey cap sleeve and scoop neck dress that can go from summer to fall. This dress looks great on you!
Simple food pleasures – blueberries, green beans from my garden. Hopefully soon, tomatoes. Summer clothing – thrifted Talbots linen pants ($3, sooooooooo comfy, barely legal for work – but I feel like I’m wearing pjs) Broken in Dansko sandals. Or birkenstocks. Or my new Taos bronze gladiators 🙂 I’m still looking for new summer dresses, but I’m being picky because I want classics that will last (and I need straps that cover bras 😉
I have a newfound (well, since last summer) love for maxi dresses. I’m loyal to Rachel Pally because her dresses are super long and just the right length for me. I agree with you– a good maxi dress makes you look instantly chic.
Lately my favorite little things are: drinking iced coffee, braiding my hair, and seeing a small row of clogs lined up in the closet.
love rachel pally! her dresses are perfect and so soft.
and yay for clogs! i took a picture a few years ago of all my clogs lined up and was so proud 🙂
so glad you love your gladiators! and there’s nothing better than home grown tomatoes. it’s been a long time since i had REALLY good ones, but i could eat almost as many of those as blueberries!
i hear you on dresses that cover bra straps, that’s always been a pet peeve of mine, maybe i’ll do a post about it later this week.
i wish my splendid dress was still available, i think it would be perfect for you!
For me, nothing puts me in a better mood than cool weather. If it is in the 60s, I am walking around smiling like a character in a musical. I could break out in song at any minute! Also, my dopey dog, and of course, COFFEE.
ah yes. cool weather. *sigh*
