You know what I did yesterday? Went to my hair color appointment a day early. Yes, I am that girl. It’s interesting how that worked though: I had put it in my calendar for Tuesday, and completely ignored the reminder email from the salon reminding me that it was Wednesday, because you know, I KNEW when my appointment was, and OF COURSE I was right. Humph.
Just goes to show that when you have something in your head that you KNOW to be true, it takes a lot to convince you otherwise. And maybe it shouldn’t. Food for thought…
That’s more than just an interesting aside, it’s the reason I have my hair pulled back in the world’s smallest ponytail. I’d been holding off on washing my hair until my appointment and it’s a hot mess, so the only way it looked presentable was to pull it back.
All was not lost, however, because I still went over to the Warby Parker showroom to get my glasses re-adjusted (they were hurting my ears) and to browse for sunglasses. I planned an outfit/glasses post for Friday, but I can tell you now that I’m a progressive lenses convert (I got the WEBB style). I don’t know how I’ve managed to see for so long through my contacts – these new progressive lenses make SUCH A DIFFERENCE, I’m almost overwhelmed.
More on this later, but if you’re holding out on trying progressives, just do it. I know many people have a hard time with them (my father isn’t a fan…), but I’m so pleased, even though it means I’m admitting to old age. Which I readily admit anyway…so…
And just a little note on the Inhabit cardigan and the Shopbop extra 20% off sale items code that ends today. I highly recommend this sweater, and think it’s been worth full-price, but of course, it’s even better marked down. They still have all sizes in stock though, so it might actually make it down even further if you have the stomach to wait it out a little longer.
It’s really comfortable, and gets lots of compliments for it’s interesting shape, and has held up well. It does pill though (it’s 100% wool), but my trusty sweater brush takes care of that.
And just for fun, here’s everything in my “hearts” section at Shopbop that’s on sale now + an extra 20% off with code EXTRASALE. I won’t be buying anything, because I used up all my credit on the Rag & Bone Aston boots in black (which I got price matched for $288!!!), but it’s sort of interesting to see what’s on my “wish list” – or not interesting, because as you probably knew already, it’s all pretty predictable stuff π

Hi Grechen –
I just switched from a ‘standard’ prescription eyeglass to progressives a few months ago and, though it took me a while to get used to them (wearing my previous prescription at night for reading probably doesn’t help), I do like them. Having a chic frame around them certainly helps ????
BTW, I know it’s old news for you, but since they seem to be selling a lot of them, I finally received the Everlane loafers the other day and they are very nice. They seem to fit well, but due to heavy rain I’ve not bothered to wear them out yet. I’m sure we’ll see the truth on the next dry day.
I love this look. That cardi looks super comfy. I’ve totally shown up for my appointments on the wrong day too… We must be too busy.
thanks ashley – the thing is, i’m NOT that busy. i’m just scattered right now… π
yes, i love a nice frame. i’m very happy with my warby parker frames, i’ll definitely be buying more. and it didn’t seem to take me very long to get used to the progressive lenses, maybe i was just so desperate for something better? i hadn’t been seeing very well for a while, especially working, or going from looking up to looking down. my dad nearly scared me away from progressives altogether though, he’s had a really hard time!
so glad you love the loafers!! i do too, and i’m so happy i stuck with my normal size, because they fit beautifully. they did take a couple of wears to fully break in. i put some moleskine on a few places inside where i was “feeling” the shoe, and no more problems!
I’ve done the same thing with appts before, and at the wrong time, or the worst…the day after. UGH!
Really glad to hear that you love the progressives, cuz I’m ready to pull the trigger on them and I love Warby Parker’s styles and quality. Unlike you, I’m actually old, so it works for me.
You know how much I adore that Inhabit cardigan. It’s so great!
OK, so I checked out your “heart” items, and while SOME of the pieces were very you, there’s definitely a side of Grechen we haven’t seen before! (Some of those sexy, complicated dresses…my, my!) Just an aside: Did anyone else notice that you have 165 pages of “hearted” items on Shopbop.com?!? π
Sent my Mom this post immediately after receiving it, and she and I are both in a TIZZ because it sold out in our sizes! Oh well — maybe it will pop up when Inhabit has their sale.
It truly looks better on you than on the Shopbop model. If I had just seen it there, I would have thought it was nothing special.
haha!! those aren’t all my hearts items, they’re just the sale items. my hearts items are in the post, in the images at the bottom. (you might not see them if you have an ad-blocker on) – i started wondering when you mentioned sexy complicated dresses…i was like WHOA, who’s that??? π
i guess take my love of progressives with a caveat – maybe i was lucky? i didn’t really have any break-in period; i’ve adjusted really well to them. i still wear my contacts for exercise though, i just can’t in glasses. i know my dad has a really hard time with his, and others say it takes time to get used to them.
i bet it will come back in stock, and go on sale even more…it’s not a shape for everyone, so it’ll probably get returned. that happens with a lot of things i have “hearted” i’ve noticed. they’ll sell out and then come back in stock from returns…
thanks π i hope you and your mom can get it!!
THANK God!!! *big sigh of relief* I’m glad that’s theres only one Grechen…although, what you do in private is your OWN business! π
My husband has progressives, and it took him awhile to get used to. I think it has a lot to do with the size of the lens (larger is easier to adjust to). I’m at the point where I need them, I guess. No one wants to ride in the car anymore when I drive.
Glad to read that your eyes are feeling better. Few things worse with the time we spend in front of the screens (too much?) : )
Moleskin’s great. I have some Frye engineer boots that I bought 15+ yrs ago and will never part with them — they’ll likely outlive me (just had the heels retreaded for the first time last month). But the leather tabs and stitching inside was rubbing against tights and ruining them; so I lined each one over the stitching with moleskin and voila! No more tight/sock shredding behavior!
I like the Warby Parker look. Bought some Paul Smith frames a few years ago that are very similar — will need to get those refilled!
