I’m thinking of boycotting everything until the sun comes out. I have such a hard time managing without sun. It goes back to the days when I taught pre-school I think; rain always put everyone in a bad mood because we couldn’t spend any time outside. I also think I am a reptile – I need to bask in the sun to warm up.
So I must put on my warmest sweaters and brave the elements. But still, I dream of spring, and sunshine, and warmer weather. AND being able to wear spring-y clothes. Speaking of which, after I wrote my “dreaming of spring” post last week, I placed an order at Shopbop. And not for anything I mentioned therein. (perhaps technically I made it to March without buying anything? because I haven’t received it yet?)
It was very much an impulse order, although not in the sense that I hadn’t been thinking about the items I ordered for quite some time. I had. I had just convinced myself to give up on them, that they’re not me, I wouldn’t wear them, and I should go for something much more practical. Although both items tugged at my heart strings, the shoes especially.
And then, I was afraid the shoes would sell out before I could get them in my size, so I just ordered them. These – the Rachel Comey moon wedges. Which, of course, have now sold out in my size. I LOVE them. And they are SO ME. Back when I wore wedges/heels, that is. I would like to again, actually. To mix it up a bit; I do sometimes feel as if I’ve given up by wearing flats constantly. They should arrive today. I won’t be able to wear them for a long time, but I do hope they fit, and that I can wear them without falling over. I’m out of practice.
I also ordered this oversized chambray shirt by Sundry (made in the US). Despite the fact that I’d proclaimed my desire for a chambray top “over” – and they just weren’t “me” no matter how much I wanted them to be, I still have a need for a shirt to “throw on” with leggings and sneakers. I got rid of the gray flannel CP shades top I had used for that purpose because it was just too much on my frame lately, and my white Madewell top isn’t quite long enough to wear comfortably only with leggings. So, I’m trying chambray once again. I ordered the size 1, which is a small, and I hope it works, but I won’t hesitate to return it if it doesn’t.
Notice I did not order the James Perse striped long cardigan, which I do still REALLY want. I may order it now, with this coupon code, or I may wait for Saks’ friends and family code, which is usually a flat 25% off, if I have extra discretionary money.
Oh, and since I placed my order last week and they announced a coupon code today I called and asked them to adjust it to reflect the 20% off orders over $500, which they did graciously. (I used my Shopbop credit to place my order) I’m always so impressed with Shopbop’s customer service…
Anyway, we’ll see how this “experiment” with going with items that “spark joy” goes this time around. It doesn’t always work out in the end; I sell or get rid of things that aren’t entirely practical, even though I love them. The key is now that I MAKE the shoes practical. That I wear them.
Has anything at Shopbop caught your eye? Are you ordering anything for spring??
You know, I’ve never taken a look at Shopbop .. but ah, heading over there now 😛
Also, love those Superga sneakers on your spring post .. hmm, I think I must have those and hope they are more comfortable than Converse.
Monica.
i think the superga would have to be more comfortable than converse…i don’t find converse very comfortable AT ALL. i wouldn’t want to wear them for much walking anyway…
Yay for Rachel Comey wedges! It has been awhile since you’ve worn wedges/heels, now that you mention it. Try them on in your house and walk around in them awhile to make sure they’ll be comfy, and if not, you can return them. *Fingers crossed that they work out!
I haven’t bought very much lately, and I’m feeling really good about that. I did purchase a pair of much needed boyfriend jeans and found a cute a-line black turtleneck, while searching on the Old Navy website. Let’s hope it doesn’t pill.
I love that oversized chambray shirt you ordered . . . it’s a good thing they’re sold out of it in my size, or I’d be tempted to break my spending fast (and only 3 days into March. Ha.).
I have a ton of Converse low tops and ALWAYS wear them with an insert. I own 1 pair of Supergasand will warn they run big so read the reviews about sizing. I also have to wear inserts with them–nothing fancy, a Dr. Scholl’s will do. I find I can walk in both brands with an insert.
I always use an insert, too! It makes the shoes so much more comfortable and better for your feet/knees/back. 🙂
Superga was not comfortable for me at all, sadly. They seemed a bit too flat/shallow in the toe area for my foot. And the padding really isn’t good at all, hence the need for insoles.
I’m a huge Rachel Comey fan, and can’t wait to see live pictures of those wedges!
today!!! they’re really comfortable – so far, just wearing around the house anyway – and high, but they don’t feel it. sadly, they’re sold out in most sizes at shopbop, but the dreslyn has them, and they’ll do a coupon code soon, i’m pretty sure. there are other styles that have a wooden wedge, but i didn’t want that…
i don’t think i could fit an insert in to my converse…it’d make them feel too small. how do you deal with that?
honestly, i don’t wear them often enough to bother. if i want comfort, i wear my vince sneakers – they’re my most comfortable pair…
i just replied to renza’s comment – but i’m not sure i’d be able to fit an insole in my converse…for the amount of time i wear them, though, i don’t think an insert is necessary; they’re relatively comfortable for just wandering. i did wear them to san francisco when i first got them and wanted to cut my feet off afterwards!
for comfortable sneakers, my vince win, hands down.
don’t break your spending fast!!! it’ll still be there later, i hope. although sundry does sell out quickly, i’ve missed out on other pieces because i waited too long…
i think they’re going to work out 🙂
if you go back 5 years or more, i wore heels ALL the time. i hardly ever wore flats, except for ballet flats every once in a while. i’m looking forward to adding them back in again.
Ah, I never thought about adding an insert .. Converse for me, slip in the heel so not sure an insert would secure my foot more .. but I may give it a try 🙂
