So weird, as soon as the calendar turned to September 1, the weather cooled off. A little. It was in the 60’s this morning when I got up to walk Dagny (at 5:30 AM, it didn’t last long. Oh, and we heard a coyote this morning. VERY close!! So we turned and headed away from it LOL), and today it will only get into the mid-80’s.
I have errands to run, mostly inside, so it’s the perfect opportunity to finally wear this dress out and about. Read my original review here, but the cotton twill is rather substantial, so better for cooler weather. I also decided to make the hem raw, and since the hem was about two inches anyway, all I had to do was cut it right below the original stitching. Thanks Kathryn for pointing that out 🙂 I do like the length better now.
So excited to be able to wear it!!
Who ordered this dress? What color did you get? Has it arrived yet?? I can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks of it.
If you haven’t yet, and are tempted, don’t forget you can use code GRECHEN15 for 15% off your order at Frazier & Wing. If you’re not into the dress, she has some cute tops too, I’m partial to the Sherman, which is sadly sold out through the end of the month in Ochre (such a good color!!).
It has actually cooled off here in Colorado too–it’s been so hot the last couple of months that I thought I’d never want to wear jeans again (or any clothing that touched my body, to be honest) but here I am, wearing a new pair I bought at Anthropologie (and oh god, they are both multi-shade denim AND have a ridiculous stepped raw hem, but I really do like them).
I was going to order the ochre dress but NOW IT IS SOLD OUT until the end of the month. I did also place an order for this dress from Elizabeth Suzann:
https://elizabethsuzann.com/collections/dresses-jumpsuits/products/clyde-dress-midweight-linen?variant=38472077388
but now I’m worried that by the time it arrives I definitely won’t want to wear linen anymore this season. Do I wait and see? Do I cancel my order and see if they produce it in a canvas? Do I cancel and order the Frazier and Wing dress instead?!?!
Definitely not a real crisis, but I need something to focus on other than the declining state of our democracy. 😉
whoa. such a difficult question!! 🙂
honestly, i would order the frazier & wing dress instead. you should get it mid-october, and you’ll still be able to wear it then, right? although i will say, it could be challenging to layer with a jacket. better with a large scarf or shawl…
you wouldn’t get your ES dress until maybe november at the latest…and i wouldn’t want to wear linen in november. of course, you’ll have it for next summer, but i suck at buying things and waiting to wear them. if i can’t wear it soon after i buy it, i don’t want it. sort of bad to say, i know…
like i said though, it’s a tough question. but should keep you occupied long enough to get a reprieve from current events LOL
Me! Me! Me! I ordered this dress in navy after reading your review. I’m worried bc I have larger upper arms but I love the style so much I took a chance.
I live in Hawaii so I’ll only wear this during the “winter” and I think it’ll be perfect. At 5’2″ I’ll most likely take off a bit of the hem.
I love it in white on you! I never even wear white t-shirts so I was very happy a darker version was available. My dress should be shipping soon yipeeee!
I ordered this FW dress in white a couple weeks ago and cannot wait to receive it! I like the raw hem that you created, Grechen. I do plan to wear it A LOT during the fall season and into winter. And I’m actually getting ready to put my linen clothing away…soon…
I love this dress so much! I wish it was available in plus sizes. I would totally order it. And you are right; FUCK THE RULES!! I will wear what I want, when I want. Rules be damned!
What a great move…trimming off the bottom of the dress! (Kathryn, remind me to ask you for tailoring advice 😉
I love the cute sneakers! Comfy, I assume? And I agree: Rules? What rules?
Hi Gretchen, did you do a review of the sneakers yet? I was considering ordering them and wanted to hear your thoughts?
All the best
hi irena! no, haven’t done a review yet, i just got them a few days ago! i love them, and wore them comfortably all day yesterday. I took my normal RC size (38.5 – I’m a US size 8) and they fit, but might be a teeny bit big. I’m going to get an insole for them though and that will hopefully help. i’ll write more about them as i wear them more!
so funny – i was “shopping” without buying yesterday and walked through the shoes at neiman marcus. there was an older woman there sitting, surrounded by shoes she was trying on and she stopped me and asked about mine. i told her where to find them, and then she said out of all the shoes she’d tried on, she liked mine the best 😉 they got a LOT of attention yesterday!!
Thanks for the quick reply. They are lovely and look great on you. Sounds like I’ll have to given them a try
🙂
I had to have EVERYTHING fitted from puberty until menopause when my waist expanded and my bust shrunk. That includes waist, shoulder width, butt and thigh, and arm length. If nothing else in this world, I really know how to pin a garment so it fits and still hangs properly, lol. Actually arm length is still a problem for me if full length. I had a brief reprieve for tops in the 80s when they were looser and in the 90s for casual pants when they were doing drawstrings and elastic waists. Currently the bracelet length sleeves are a help! I have every sympathy for those who have a hard time finding something that fits their shape off the rack. I just had to factor tailoring in as the cost of the garment in time and money. So when it just comes to shortening the hem? When you can just use iron on tape or have it done for 5-7 bucks? Not anywhere near an issue IMO. (Or am I just bitter/envious. Probably haha. Have to work on that!)
I COULD do it (was very briefly a fashion merchandising major in college, so I took tailoring!), but I don’t WANT to! 😉
lol. me too, more and more. I no longer darn socks! But you’re so tall, no? You have the OTHER problem!
Which is why bracelet sleeves are great for me, too…nothing is EVER long enough in the sleeves, so they may as well be 3/4 length!
