So. It’s 2014, which means Grechen’s Closet turns 10 this year (!), and trying to get used to a new routine. (I’m not there yet). It’s a routine without Ozzie to wake me up in the morning ready to start his day, and a new Pure Barre schedule. A routine without walks in the afternoon and playing ball in the morning.
I’m doing well after a week without Ozzie, actually, better than I thought I would. And thanks to my husband’s brilliant idea that we take a quick trip back to Austin over the weekend to visit friends, I’m ready to start the new year fresh. Honestly, I don’t know what it will entail yet. I had hoped to be putting together big plans for a 10-year blog birthday celebration, but I’m not there yet. I also wanted to have settled into a my daily work routine a little better by now, and I’m not there yet either. Feeling sluggish and chubby after gaining weight since Thanksgiving doesn’t help much, but I’m on my way to getting back on track with better eating habits (no, I did not stay away from Trader Joe’s like I said I would…).
So far, outfits have been boring, cozy, and non descript, like the one above. Just easy, and something I don’t have to think much about is what I’ve had going for a couple of weeks. But I’m going to step it up a notch; I’d like to start wearing more dresses, weather permitting, starting with the Lanston boyfriend dress (in gray of course) I ordered from Shopbop that just arrived 😉
Any big milestones in your life coming up this year? Plans? Vacations?
I think you are more than excused for feeling sluggish and out of sorts- you have had to deal with so many changes in such a short time. I am glad your trip has you feeling a little refreshed.
This year will be a big one, because I am getting married! That said, we are still struggling with what kind of wedding to have (courthouse vs. very small) and dealing with everyone’s expectations surrounding that. How did you and your husband decide to a courthouse wedding? Can’t remember- did you have any kind of celebration afterwards?
Welcome back. So glad you’re doing OK, though I know you’re missing Ozzie horribly.
You’ve had a lot of changes in the last year, so finding a routine will be hard at first. Maybe just try to get one thing down pat, like your morning routine, and then go from there. I’m having a hard time settling back into my work routine after taking some downtime over the holidays.
That outfit looks cozy–just what you need right now. Just add a necklace and you’d be good to go anywhere.
Good luck with your 10-year blogiversary. Any plans you can share with us? 🙂
Wow. I’ve recently been scouring for “Blogs Over 40” in order to see if I am the only person over 40 on the planet! Yay, ‘m not. I just read a post you wrote on this topic, “What You Have to Look Forward to As A Fashion Blogger Over 40,” and I couldn’t agree more! Again, I write more than just fashion, as you said, and was looking for ways to increase the average age of my demographic! Thanks!
It’s been hard enough for me to get back into the work routine after two weeks off, so I can’t imagine adding in a move and losing my dog on top of it, so go easy on yourself…
And in terms of gaining some weight, make sure that you recognize all of the progress you’ve made since last January! I know it’s disappointing to backslide a bit, but if you look at the bigger picture, you’ve made amazing changes in the last year!
yay!!!! congratulations on your upcoming nuptials 🙂
we decided to get married very quickly, at the courthouse, and had only one close friend there with us. our family is all spread out, and we couldn’t afford a big party or celebration after, so we just decided to try and do that later. i really wanted to get married in vegas anyway, so doing it without family around was okay by me…although it would have been nice, if it had been easier, you know?
i would like to have a big party or something with everyone – maybe to celebrate our 10th anniversary or something, but also since it was both of our second marriages, we didn’t put a lot of emphasis on family/friends being around – just on each other. i do understand expectations though and sometimes they are hard to balance, but ultimately, the marriage is what’s important, not the wedding, and starting it out right for the two of you is paramount.
i look forward to hearing more about your plans!!!
thanks laurel!
i was thinking of having a year-long celebration full of amazing giveaways, etc., from my favorite stores & designers (you-know-who!!) , doing a blog re-design, launching the JP site, and more, but i haven’t finalized any plans yet. things are set in motion, and some ideas out there, so it’ll come together eventually…i just have to get back into the swing of things first!!
thanks jen…i’m really trying, but being hard on myself is one of the things i’m SOOOO good at 😉 i’m getting better about not doing that though. takes practice!
i’m not too distressed about gaining a little weight, i know i can get it off again, but you’re right, it is so disappointing to backslide. i just bought this book (Within: a spiritual awakening to love and weight loss) that was featured in goop last issue, and i’m looking forward to diving in… hopefully it’ll help me confront my weight issues once and for all. or at least shed some light on them.
thank you stephanie!! you’re definitely not the only over-40 blogger out there 😉
I’m a big believer in baby steps. So if you just want to host some giveaways around the actual anniversary date, that would be cool by me. As long as the contests are open to Canadians. 🙂
I, too, often have grand plans and then little time or energy to implement them. I was going to completely organize the condo over the holidays but only ended up making progress in our master bedroom and office. As I said, baby steps. 🙂
Congratulations, Sarge!! I wish you and your fiance all the best that life has to offer.
I was actually just looking at your most recent post of the JP sweatshirt and button-up top and thinking, “Damn! She looks amazing!” Realize the progress you’ve made. Cut yourself some slack…major life changes will do that to you. And vow to yourself to get back on the horse. You will. Love yourself!! <3
And I love the way you styled this "boring outfit" (ha ha) with the chambray peeking out. Perfect!
yes. baby steps! we also moved into a much bigger townhome, so i am itching to be able to fill it…and now that i have my own office, i’m dying to decorate, but that’ll have to wait for a while until vet bills, moving expenses, etc., get paid off.
